NASB | Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
Bible Question:
Are there any people that do not see baptism as an issue for Acts 2:38? Personally, I do not see water baptism mentioned in the passage. From the heart, Ray |
Bible Answer: Ray: I see this verse as telling the early church that the Baptism in Christ is different from that of Johns call to repent and be Baptized. Now in this verse it states that forgivness of sins and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is in connection of making Jesus Lord in being a believer, totally immersed in Chirst. This is another term for being spiritualy Baptized. Of course water Baptism is openly confessing Christ before men. Your not seeing "water Baptism" in this verse is in my opinion correct.
