Subject: When does the Baptism occur? |
Bible Note: Hi Robert, I think that the study of the Holy Spirit is one of capitalization. I believe that the Scriptures speak of both the Holy Spirit and the holy spirit. It is with that in mind that I tell you that I would agree with your total post except for the capitalization. 1) I believe in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as you do, but I think that the receiving of the holy spirit is the same for the early and late Christians. 2) In Acts 8:14-24 I see them receiving the holy spirit and I see an equation of receiving the word of God and receiving the holy spirit. I would say that "He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." Acts 8:16 Verse 17, Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the holy spirit, the spirit was bestowed, and Simon offered money so that he could get and give the holy spirit. Compare Acts 8:21 with Romans 6:22. The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Compare Acts 8:34 with Luke 7:16 when you have more time by the way. 3) Saul in Acts 9:17 did not receive the holy spirit at the laying on of hands but rather was "filled with the holy spirit" And then he preached Jesus, saying that He is the Son of God. Paul went on proving that this Jesus is the Christ. See Acts 8:34 where that Someone, (that man), was the Jesus that Phillip also preached. I better quit now and see if you want to talk and perhaps get back to your post's paragraphs later. I hope that I have made some sense, brother. From the heart, Ray |
