Subject: What is preaching Christ? |
Bible Note: Hi Mitch, I appreciate that you only wish to discuss Scripture. I'd like to first clear away a few things, so that they do not cloud our judgment. If we believe that God sometimes brings suffering into our lives, we do not need to believe that it would not be God's will to later remove that suffering, so we do not need to close the hospitals. I don't think the doctors heal anyway. I think God does that. But my point is, we need not project extremist positions on those who disagree with us in order to discredit their views. Would you agree with this? I am convinced enough that God uses trials of all sorts, including physical infirmities and sickness, as part of the process of sanctifying us, that I do pray for whatever trials God has ordained to complete my maturity. I also pray for the strength to endure them, and that they accomplish their perfect work, making me complete. We need not fear trials, nor think of them as something bad. Suffering is suffering, no matter what the source, right? So we can speak of suffering that results from an accident, or crime, or bacteria, or virus, or any other source as the same. Would you agree with this? Ok. So I've told you pretty much where I stand. This is my question for you. When Paul wrote to the chuch in Rome, he said: Rom 8 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. We know that we have been spiritually redeemed. But does not this passage tell us that our bodies have not yet been redeemed, and, along with creation, still suffer the slavery of corruption? And that this will not change (and here we draw our understanding from other passages as well) until the end of the age, at the restoration of all things? What do you think? Love in Christ, Mark |
