Bible Note: Greetings Mitch! You wrote: "I have no need for any of those mountains to be moved. If I did, then I would move them. Jesus was not calling a fig tree a mountain you know. He was saying that whatever mountain you need moved, whatever obstacle you need removed, you speak to it, as he did the tree. He wasn't talking about a mountain like Mt. McKinley. But he was talking about mountains in the obstacle sense, like we say a 'mountain of debt' " Is that really what Jesus meant? Let's look at the Scripture! Matt. 17:20 - "He replied, ‘‘Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”" Notice that the phrase used is 'this mountain'. Jesus had a very specific mountain in mind. In fact, the Greek text uses a demonstrative pronoun for 'this' mountain. He is not speaking of any old mountain, or even of mountains in general. He is speaking of the mountain they were in fact standing upon. Mt. 17:9 says, "As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, ‘‘Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” " Where in the text does Jesus speak of anything but an actual mountain? p.s. - I am glad to hear that good things are happening for you and your family. God is good! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
