Bible Question:
My brothers, Here's some food for thought.I think we would all agree that feelings and experience are no gaurantee in and of themselves for truth. They are things that God has given us and are part of what makes us who we are. I heard this from a Pastor a number of years ago about someones experience with Holy Spirit and please bear with me here as this at best a rough paraphrase at best as it's been quite some time since I heard this.I'll put this in the form af a question- Someone speaks of The Holy Spirit doing something in thier life and we dont see where it has any scriptural standing but it doesnt contradict anytthing God has already established in the bible. What say we to this? I love you guys, lionheart |
Bible Answer: Hi Lionheart, To repeat from an earlier post: Does it conform to the Word? (or at least not contradict) Does it glorify Jesus? Does it make me more like Jesus? Does it build up the body of Jesus? Yes answers to all of these go a long way towards my saying "Maybe, maybe, that was from the Lord." I was in an "afterglow" at church some time ago. A person said that they "saw" "raindrops, falling on the ocean, lit from within". Someone else gave an interpretation: "We, the people of God's light, are part of a mighty kingdom". There is absolutely nothing in the Bible I am aware of at all related to this. I felt closer to the people I was with, and closer to the Lord, and closer to heaven, so I received the blessing, and I have remembered this moment of blessing for over 20 years. But I am not going to build doctrine on it. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
