Subject: ever neccessary/permissable to deceit? |
Bible Note: Greetings Tomsweetsir! I have been following this thread off and on over the last few days. The thing that has amazed me is that no one has really went to Scripture to see what it says about lying. Consider the following verses: Prov. 12:22 - "The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful." Prov. 6:16 - "There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers." Prov. 12:20 - "There is deceit in the hearts of those who plot evil, but joy for those who promote peace." Hos. 4:1 - "Hear the word of the LORD, you Israelites, because the LORD has a charge to bring against you who live in the land: 'There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God in the land. 2 There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed." Lev. 19:11 - "Do not steal. Do not lie. Do not deceive one another. 12 Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the LORD." 1 Sam. 15:29 - "He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind." Col. 3:9 - "Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices" Job 11:11 - "Surely he recognizes deceitful men; and when he sees evil, does he not take note?" Job 13:7 - "Will you speak wickedly on God?s behalf? Will you speak deceitfully for him?" Ps. 5:6 - "You destroy those who tell lies; bloodthirsty and deceitful men the LORD abhors." Ps. 5:9 - "Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with destruction. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongue they speak deceit." Ps. 32:2 - "Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit." Ps. 36:3 - "The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise and to do good." Ps. 101:7 - "No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence." Acts 13:10 - "You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord?" 1 Pet. 2:1 - "Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind." 1 Pet. 3:10 - "For, 'Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.'" Rev. 21:27 - "Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb?s book of life." ******************************************** There are many more verses in the Bible which deal with this issue, but I think these answer the question rather clearly! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
