Subject: ever neccessary/permissable to deceit? |
Bible Note: Greetings Tomsweetstir! Thanks for the kind words! :-) Allow me to make a couple of quick points! 1) My previous post was not intend just for you my friend. I just kind of jumped in at that point. So, I hope you didn't take it as a direct citicism of you my friend. I was just noting that in general, no one had really went to Scripture yet to see what it said about the topic. 2) Secondly, I don't see the example of the missionary as a lie or a deception. Someone walks in saying that they are going to kill all Americans, I don't have any obigation to volunteer that I am an American. :-) Now, if they were asked a direct question, I feel that the missionary would have had only two possible choices. They could refuse to respond, or they could respond truthfully. 3) Concerning Mark 1:5, I think that we start a dangerous precedent if we start limiting the words beyond what the text allows. It is indeed quite possible that 'everyone' came. Mt. 3:7 does mention that religious leaders coming as well. One must remember that John was not preaching salvation, but much like an OT prophet, he was preaching 'repentance' from the religious shape that Israel was in. Granted, there are cases in Scripture where hyperbole is used, but I'm not sure that Mark 1:5 is such an instance. Mark is very specific in noting where they came from. p.s. - Welcome to the forum!
