Emmaus, Thank you for your response. I do certainly agree with you that it was a lack of discernment on the disciples part. However, I wonder what your thoughts are about the part after the seven mile walk when Jesus "acted" as if He were going to continue on walking. Obviously the disciples bought it, as is apparent by their response, but they were believing something that was not true... is this not deception? |
Bible Answer: This is a good question. "Stay with us for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over." The Jerome Biblical Commentary sheds some light on the matter. " Jesus was not play acting: He really would have departed. Without him darkness would have descended; this indication of the time of the day also alludes to a favorite Lucan, Johannine and Pauline contrast ---of darkness and light. (Luke 22:53)." Emmaus |
