Bible Question: Chapter 24 of Matthew seems to be talking about an event in the future. (24:6,7 24:9 24:14 24:22 24:30) It seems that the sacrilegious object that causes desecration will be set up in Jeruselem in the future, then great calamity will come.(24:22 24:29) After the heavenly signs the lord will return. Does anyone have any ideas on this chapter? I've been taught that it covers two different time periods but I can't see it that way. Thanks for any comments. Terry |
Bible Answer: Terry, contrary to what many of my study Bibles say, Matthew 24 HAS happened, exactly as Jesus said it would. If you have access to Josephus check out his “description” of the destruction of Jerusalem. It is as though he eavesdropped on Jesus’ prophesy. I have studied and restudied this portion for a few decades. It is exciting to say the least. One thing that is important to notice – Jesus instructed his disciples “Watch out less anyone deceive you.” Notice also Matt 24:14 – “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world, as a testimony to all nations, and the end will come” Compare that to Col. 1:23 – “…be not moved away from the gospel, which you have heard, and which WAS preached to every creature which is under heaven ….” There are SOOOOOOOOO many more verses that back up what many know as truth. Actually, one can take one verse at time and follow through from history's records. Many have done that to gain the same reasoning as I am presenting here. For this time, respectfully, Taleb |
