Subject: Taleb, When did Matthew 24:25 occur? |
Bible Note: Yes, Searcher, “Therefore when you see” WAS in the future of “those” to whom He spoke. Their “whole future” WAS in our past. The abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel occurred beginning when the Roman soldiers came against the city and continued through the burning of it, the destruction of the temple, with no stone upon another and the placing of their gods in the Holy Place and their offering sacrifices upon the altar – as recorded in numerous sources at your fingertips. Taking ALL Scripture into the picture reveals the “when you see”. Mark 13:14’s says “When you see the abomination standing WHERE IT OUGHT NOT. Luke 21:20 adds “clues to our mystery”. “When you see ‘Jerusalem surrounded by armies’, then you will understand that HER desolation is at hand.” “This” happened over the span of time it took for the Romans to conquer the city. Surely you don’t think “The Holy Land” recently picked up that name? Maccabees, written centuries before Jesus’ birth, refers to the city, to the land, to the temple as “Holy.” Allow me to paraphrase from Josephus (an eyewitness, but not a Christian). The city is surrounded by Cestius Gallus, a general. He fought against the city for five days. Then, for no good reason, the army retreated. The Jews chased after them and fought against the Romans. The Jews killed 5,300 footman, 380 horsemen. This was during the 12 year of Nero’s reign. Josephus adds a little tid-bit. “After this calamity had befallen Cestius, many of the eminent Jews swam away from the city, as from a ship when it is going to sink.” From many great Christian historians, we learn all the Christians fled to Pella. Just like His word promised, all of God’s “sealed” people (Jewish Christians) escaped the wrath that fell. HIS-story informs us ALL the Christians who heeded Christ’s warnings escaped alive. As explained in Rev. 12, after the sounding of the last trumpet, which 1 Cor 15:52 reveals. Interesting that Jesus’ warning (verses about not being pregnant, unclothed, or walking on the Sabbath, ONLY FIT THEIR situation. After that destruction 2,000 years ago – RULES changed. It is NOT unlawful to travel on the Sabbath anymore. Today, people wouldn’t be “stoned for streaking”. But in the “last days” in which Jesus referred to – some of those things were punishable offences. Nor would “travel in winter” be hazardous today. Respectfully, Taleb |
