Bible Note: EdB:Thanks for the reply. The problem of the gilded edges you mentioned is pretty standard for most Bibles. I have a silver gilded blue leather NIV Life Application Bible that shows even the slightest pariticle of moisture. My Cambrige KJV is the same as well. So I believe its is more common than you might think. Something you might like to know is WAL MART has in the shoe department a product called INSTANT SHINE made by Professionals Choice. This is a spounge like material soaked with minkoil and something else. I have been using this for several years and before that a product by Kwikwi shoe shine. All my leather Bibles are nice looking and have not torn or worn like you would expect. The covers are flexable, and some are 30 years old. INSTANT SHINE cost about 1.60, which is well worthit. I think if you try this you will be really amazed. I have only three bonded leather Bibles. Bonded leather is really like mushed up leather then pressed out, much like cardboard is. Rarely does the bonded leather material hold up to much use. I think the new leather look plastic would be better than bonded leather. I have rebound two old Bibles, one which was from 1856. They turned out very nice. The real problem is time and patients. What is ironic to me is some Bible leather covers are pig skin! Does something seem a little odd to you? Also the Foundation Press' Calf skin leather has a life time guarantee. I did have a problem with the ultrathin NASB, I just recently bought, with the sewing pulling the pages appart. I called Foundation Press at 714-879-2286 and explained my problem. They stood behind it with no problems whatsoever. More and more you will notice that Bible makers are not guaranteing their genuine leather Bibles for life as the once did. Zondervan still does, and I have had two replaced in the last ten years. If you notice many Bible Presses have stoped making Bibles, or joined with ather companies. Moody Press once produced a very well made Bible. But now they don't print any Bibles. Holman is now joined with Brodman. Nelson I think is gone, as far as I can tell. In the last summer months many Bible companies and Bookstores were hit with phoney orderders for Bibles, coming mainly from Nigeria. World Bibles got hit and several other publishers. This was an evil attack that hurt bookstores and some publishers, to now there is no C.O.D. anymore. Ed, what is so odd is we have become so accustomed to fine Bibles it is easy to forget there was a time when the common man could not even read let alone think of ever having a Bible. Today in America Bibles are plentifull. But, in many parts of the world still today people do not have even the gospel of John in their native tongue. We are blessed, are we not? Oh what a responsibility we will be held accountable for to Christ, someday. justme |
