Bible Note: Justme That is interesting what you say about the gilting. I have talked to many on this subject and they all tell me the original purpose of gilting was to protect the paper page edge from moisture. I have many Bible I can actually wet my finger and rub the gilting with no ill effect yet if I touch my Lockman bible with anything even moist the gilting rubs right off. Your right about bonded leather they last me about 5 years and then the cover is gone. Of course the pages only last about 10 years before they are too yellowed soiled or torn to be read. We have a Lifeway Christian Book store here in Tampa that has a binder that does excellent work. I had him recover my most precious Bible. It was bonded leather and I bought it for 17 dollars to use as a desk Bible. I started using it and loved the format. It was NKJV Nelson's New Open Bible, and since it was bonded leather the cover lasted about 5 years and I had it recovered. It cost 50 dollars to recover it but I could not bring myself to let it fall apart. I think Moody and Nelson are still around. I still get their catalogues and ads. I will not buy Zondervan anything since they came out with TNIV which showed me how willing they were to sell out. Holman made an excellent Bible I really like the binding and covers on Thompson and Tyndale Bibles. I love old Bibles and people know this and send me theirs. I also have an old Lutheran Book of Worship printed in the late 1800’s (much like a hymnal) in those days you would buy your own copy. It was my Grandfather’s that he carried it with his Bible. Your right about us being blessed and others not having Bibles. That is one thing the Assemblies of God are trying to change. They are sending millions of copies of the “Fire” Bible translated in the native language to people around the world. The Bible got it name because it has a flame (much like the flame of Pentecost) on the cover and people in foreign countries picked up on this named it the Fire Bible. I kind of liked that term “Fire Bible” EdB |
