Bible Note: Greetings Michael! I will try to respond to your major points in each post as compactly as possible. Allow me to say from the beginning that I do not expect to change your mind on these issues, nor do I expect that you will change mine. However, I do believe that it is good for the forum readers to be able to see both sides of the issue and make their decision about which position is more Scriptural. In this first post, allow me to lay out what I believe is a major problem in this debate. As I pointed out in a previous post to you, the Scriptures you cited as support for your statements never actually said what you claimed they said, not even close. It has been my experience over the years that when a Scripture reference does not support Calvinism, the claim is immediately made that the reference doesn’t actually mean what it clearly says. However, numerous Scriptures are cited as support for things that the Scriptures themselves never actually say. I will point out a few examples of this in my responses to your post. My basic contention from the beginning is that I put more weight on the actual statements of Scripture than on the assumptions made about those statements. With this understanding laid out, I will now try to respond to your points. However, I am not willing to start a long debate on this issue. So, I will be very selective in the future about my responses – simply because I don’t want to get a long debate going as there has been in the past. In fact, the only reason I responded to your post to begin with was that I felt the issue was being from only one perspective for several days. By the way, I hope you and your family are having a Merry Christmas! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
