Subject: WHERE TO FIND ALL THE NAMES OF GOD |
Bible Note: Greetings Truthfinder! So, if something is done incorrectly 500 times, then it is right? :-) Seriously though, I'm not really swayed by counting the number of times that someone else has done the same sort of thing. There are several major problems with this translation. 1) First of all, the NWT proclaims that it is a literal translation. The phrase 'ego eimi' is "I AM" not "I have been". We can debate the meaning of the phrase, but the phrase itself is quite clear. 2) The same phrase is used in Rom. 8:24, "I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins.?" Does the NWT translate this occurance as 'I have been'? It is clearly a title drawn from Exodus. 3) The usual defense I have heard for this translation is that 'eimi' is a Perfect indefinite (if I remember correctly). Of course, it is not and there is no such thing in Greek. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
