Subject: An interesting discussion/question |
Bible Note: Hello Doc, I also believe that salvation can come by no other means than through Jesus Christ. I believe the "whosoever" in John 3:16 are the elect. I also know Rom 2:13-16 cannot be ignored. Verse 13 tells us that the doers of the law shall be justified and we know that this is true because we see an example with Abraham who had righteousness because of his faith while he lived under the law. Other verses in Romans remind us if it were not for the law we would not know sin. In fact, sin would not even be sin if not for the knowledge of the law unlike today where ignorance of the law is no excuse. So those who are without the law and yet keep the law become a law unto themselves (Rom 2:14) with the law written in their hearts and their conscience bearing witness to their actions (vs 15). I just have a tough time reconciling these verses in Romans with the knowledge that there’s no other way to salvation even though I believe Jesus Christ is the only way. My logic tells me that the phrase “become a law unto themselves” seems to set an exception. Could you reconcile these verses for me Doc? Once again God’s word reminds me constantly that His ways are not my ways and His thoughts are not my thoughts and that they are far above mine. God bless and keep you, budderfligh |
