Bible Note: Greentwiga I agree, but aside from the issue of Cainan I see many attempts to change scripture to fit our theology. Obviously there are scribal errors that have crept into scripture but there is a trend that has been started to make the Bible to fit man’s agenda. We have the gap theory to align scripture to scientific explanation of creation. We have gender neutral Bibles to conform to gender divisive issues. We have new definitions offered on the real meaning of homosexuality to include the current homosexual movement. We have offered explanations that thus and such was just a social custom of the time. Or that this directive was directed only at this particular church, situation, event and etc. We even try to include extraneous literary works as equal to or un-rightly excluded from the cannon of scripture. We question God and spend more time trying to find discrepancies that would disprove God and the infallibility of scripture than we do reading scripture to live righteous. As you said it is a very slippery slope and one that once started is almost impossible to halt. We live in a very dangerous environment one that is looking for any reason to chuck God, scripture, morality, love and righteousness to the wind. By minimizing discrepancies as mere scribal errors, or directives addressing only local social customs, or pertaining to social events or behavior we don’t have today, or dependant upon interpretation and etc we throw open the question how much is made up, as the Jesus Seminar attempted to do, and how much is the actual word of God, written and preserved through the ages as God’s direct revelation to man.
