963 | Which church to get baptized in? | Acts 2:38 | azurelaw | 184727
Greetings to you llschab, May I add a little bit of my thought to your question? I think basically it is OK to be baptized at any churches as long as they are teaching sound doctrines not heresy and stick to God's Word. To my knowledge (based on the city where I live), Methodist church is very reliable (I hope it does not vary from countries). You have to discern for yourself your cousin's church based on the same criteria. My second point is that, it would be advisable to be baptized at the church where you are attending and more familiar with. After being baptized, the person usually becomes a member of the denomination. Then you have the right and OBLIGATION to vote. If you are not familiar with the church, how can you vote fairly. In the long term, there could be the possibility that you will part-take in certain ministry (e.g. deacon). Some churches will set the membership as a basic requirement for a person to be involved in the ministry. If you are holding a membership at your cousin's church which you are not attending, it will not be fair to them as well. For if they have the system of congregation meeting annually for decision on some major issues, your vote could be critical to them. My final point is that your focus or consideration should not be where your marriage be taken place, but how God would lead you to the place where He wants you to be involved and serve His body in future. I think the below scripture (though not tackling the issue as yours) could be helpful for your consideration. 2 Corinthians 11 8: I robbed other churches by taking wages from them to serve you; 9: and when I was present with you and was in need, I was not a burden to anyone; for when the brethren came from Macedonia they fully supplied my need, and in everything I kept myself from being a burden to you, and will continue to do so. 964 | battle for moses' bones, what book | Jude | azurelaw | 184627
Dear Tomas, Welcome to the forum. It is mentioned in Jude 1:9. By the way, if you want to look for any specific verse, you do not need to post a question. You can easily get it by the search function box on your right hand side of the screen the "Get Bible Text". You just need to type in the key word, say in your case "Moses". Of course you have to be patient to scan through a bunch of verses for getting your answer. Shalom Azure |

965 | What about song of Soloman? | 1 John 2:16 | azurelaw | 184366
Dear Orange, Many have given you biblical and sounded advice. However, may I add a little bit of my thought to your struggle. I wonder did God ever mention the ideal body weight and size in his creation of Adam and Eve. So, where did you get the standard of the ideal good shape? Are we so much affected by the worldly standard that we do not realize? Yes, God created things that are good and beautiful to the eyes. But that does not justify our being greedy like what Eve did. However, when it is a concern on the health problem, that would be another issue. We are responsible for keeping our body in good shape (I mean HEALTHY). If you are facing the problem of overweight that risk your health, yes, you need to deal (but the priority should be your spiritual well being) with it as well. (At this point, dear fellow members of the SBF, please bear with me this time concerning my below suggestion to this gentleman in tackling the overweight problem. I understand this is a study bible forum not a site of weight control) Orange, you should be well aware of the rules of a balanced diet together with exercise. However, if you fail to do exercise, you may try the food pyramid. Yes, everybody knows it. In fact, I am suggesting a meal pyramid. It is easy, just reallocate the portion of your every meal. Breakfast: The biggest portion of the day. Lots of vegetables and fruits, reasonable amount of rice or pasta or bread (carbohydrate), some meat (protein) Lunch: Half the amount of breakfast. Food can remain the same as breakfast. Dinner: One third of the breakfast would be ideal. If not, start with two fifth the amount of breakfast. You can eat vegetables and fruits and some meat (it would be ideal to skip meat if possible) as well. But NO carbohydrate food. Also note that the sequence of intake of food for every meal should be: Vegetables and fruits should be eaten first, then bread, pasta, grains next. Meat, egg, milk, etc should be the last. Remember to start your morning with a glass of WARM water. Please try that out. You do not have to starve your wife and yourself. :) My apology again to Lockman and other fellow members of SBF for the above content without any scriptural reference and is out of the context of bible study. :( Shalom Azure |

966 | What do we focus on? | 1 Cor 12:13 | azurelaw | 183437
Dear Justme, It is really encouraging by reading your post in knowing the good work of your denominations. Praise God. However, I would say that the glass has a much much bigger empty portion. As true believers, we will not be satisfied with only having the small portion of pure water in the glass. We must continure to light the sparks and spread the fire to heat up the lukewarm. God bless your denominations and your work Shalom Azure |

967 | what do verse 15 means | Rom 6:15 | azurelaw | 180167
Dear Anita, The below article from gotquestions.org could be helpful to you. Question: "If I am saved and all of my sins are forgiven, why not continue to sin?" Answer: The Apostle Paul answered a very similar question in Romans 6:1-2, "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?" The idea that a person could trust in Jesus Christ for salvation and then go on living just as he/she lived before - is absolutely foreign to the Bible. Believers in Christ are new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17). The Holy Spirit changes us from producing the acts of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21), to producing the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). The Christian life is a changed life. What differentiates Christianity from every other world religion is this - Christianity is based on what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. Every other world religion is based on what we must do to earn God's favor and forgiveness. Every other world religion teaches that we must do certain things, and stop doing certain things - in order to earn God's love and mercy. Christianity, faith in Christ, teaches that we do certain things and stop doing certain things BECAUSE of what Christ has done for us. How could anyone, having been delivered from sin's penalty, Hell, go back to living the same life that had them on the path to Hell? How could anyone, having been cleansed from the defilement of sin, desire to go back to the same cesspool of depravity? HOW COULD ANYONE, KNOWING WHAT JESUS CHRIST DID ON OUR BEHALF, GO ON LIVING AS IF JESUS CHRIST IS NOT IMPORTANT? How could anyone, realizing how much Christ suffered for our sins, continue sinning as if Jesus' sufferings were meaningless? Romans 6:11-18 declares, "In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey — whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness." Shalom Azure |

Dear houstonc, I would like to suggest the below scriptures for you. 1 Timothy Chapter 3. In fact, Paul talked a lot concerning leadership in his letter to Timothy. You may be interested to read both 1 and 2 Timothy. Jesus also made a note for those who wanted to be the greatest (leader) in Matthew Chapter 23, verse 11 to 12. Hope the above helpful to you. Dear Bereaniam, Just a few words to encourage you. I will pray for you. It is really heartbreaking to see your engaged (14 years!) church in such situation. I trust that you still love them, keep on loving them and praying for them. The story of Jehoiada comes to my mind. Maybe you would like to read again 2 Chronicles 22:10 to 24:15. I love the final verse "...because of the good he had done in Israel for God and his temple." Shalom Azure |

972 | Multi-Faith Rooms? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 179008
Dear JJ, May I just add a bit of my comment in response to your situation. You may also consider how God had warned again and again the Israelite not to have any relation with the gentiles when they were fighting their way to the Promise Land in OT. God even commanded them to destroy everything (both living things and non-living things) in certain cities in order to keep the purity of the Israelite. How ironically is that now we are giving up what God has restored through us to the world as in your situation. In Christ. Azure |

973 | 'virgin' after oral sex? | 1 Cor 6:18 | azurelaw | 178580
Dear Jandac, I believe you know quite well whether or not you are a virgin. By physical (worldly) definition - I would say yes. However, do you think God's standard is same as the world's? If so, why ask? If not, why ask for definition? What the Lord asks of us is very clear in the Bible as Steve and Joanna have posted. Didn't Jesus say : Then give Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's (Luke 20:25). Are you the world's? or Are you God's? If you are seeking biblical advice: repent, and do not do it again (Jesus has taught us how to pray - ... lead us not into TEMPTATION, but deliver us from evil...) Speaking the truth in love Azure |

974 | Lead worship with Jesus sitting there??? | Ps 111:1 | azurelaw | 177904
Dear brother Edward, I apologize for my mistake. I have confused your subject with another posting (by Margeret) which talks about the worship and praise of sinful(?) leaders in church. However, my guess is that you could be responding to the similar context of the subject. Kindly correct me if I misunderstood you. And yet, are you posting a question? :-) God bless. Azure |

Dear brother Edward, Welcome to the forum. From what you have posted here, it seems that it is not a question but just a follow-up note of comment on the primary question you asked few days ago. May I suggest that you click the suitable classification of post when you do posting so that the website won't left with too many questions??? (in fact it is not) unswered. By doing so, other readers will find it easier to follow the subject as well. God bless you. Azure |

976 | is it ok to worry for other people? | 1 Cor 9:9 | azurelaw | 177426
Dear Ben, May I suggest the below scripture which I think could fit to your question concerning worry for friends spiritual well-being or even sinning. The verse though meant for Job's children, however, I think it can also apply today concerning our caring for friends and remember them in our prayers. Job 1:4 to 5 His sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom. Hope this help. 977 | Are we to give ALL to anyone wanting it? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 175773
Dear Starfire, I would like to offer my humble answer to your question. I think Matt 5:40 and Luke 6:29 is not telling us to be a coward. In Matthew 5, Jesus began his teaching to his disciples on the Beatitudes and so on, and there were hints on what they would have faced in future as a follower of Jesus. In Luke 6:29, as you have read, Jesus talked about loving your enemy. Here Jesus had pushed the requirement to the extreme. Therefore, I would consider that Jesus was telling us to prepare our HEART first when we experience all kinds of evil done to us (since in reality, there is often unjustice everywhere). In doing so, we can refrain from anger and bitterness if we fail to claim back our rights or possession (in your case). Don't be upset, please read Rome 12:19. Don't give up hope, please read Luke 18:1-6. Lift up your heart and get strength, please read Prov 24:10, Isaiah 30:15, 40:29, 40:31, 41:10 and Ezek 34:16. Get strength in His peace, then you and your sister can be strong enough to face the difficulties laid before you. Hope this answers your question. God bless you. Azure |

979 | what would be my role in church | 1 Corinthians | azurelaw | 174963
Dear tyree, May I suggest you read Romans 12:3-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:4-31. According to the scripture, especially in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, I don't think anybody possess all the spiritual gifts with equal balance. There must be an outstanding one. So, in that case, it wouldn't be difficult to identify your role in church. Please correct me if I am wrong. In Christ azure |

980 | can someone explain the holy ghost? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 173892
Dear Davids Daughter, I have seen Hank provide you information which I think you could relief your doubts with his help. However, I would like to share some of my opinions with you concerning the Holy Spirit. Just as what Hank has pointed out that the Holy Spirit is the 3rd Person in the Holy Trinity who bears His own wills and thoughts and of course decisions on how or when to interact with us. Meanwhile, I understand that some believers have focused on the gift of speaking in tongues and deemed it as the only proof of getting the Holy Spirit. However, as mentioned in the bible, there are in fact lots of gifts from the Holy Spirit not only restricting to speaking in tongues. But Paul said only 'Love' can fulfill the function of various gifts. I think the obvious gift of speaking in tongues appeared in Acts when the apostles first baptized by the Holy Spirit thus served a very special and needy fuction in that time as the apostles were going to face great tribulation and were forced to go to different places where they could preach the gospels with the gift of tongues. Therefore, I would view that whenever we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, there must be some functions or works to be performed by us (i.e. God uses us to fulfill His will). in Christ Azure |
