Greetings Jack - what is the truth? Are we saved by something we do or by something that Christ has already done for us? We believe that God has saved us in Christ, because of HIS finished work on the cross; not on the basis of our "trying not to make mistakes." Here is where I think people get really confused. They put their focus on what they do or don't do rather than on what Christ HAS done and IS DOING in our lives. Blessings, mommapbs |

862 | How do these passages relate 1 John 2:4 | 1 John 2:4 | Mommapbs | 51417
"And this is His commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. Those who obey God's commandments live in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Holy Spirit lives in us." 1 John3:23-24. When I asked Jesus Christ to be my personal Savior from sin,I was "born again" or regenerated by the BAPTISM of HOLY SPIRIT (see Titus 3:5). I have obeyed God's command to believe in the name of Jesus. It is ALL from Him and through His Grace that I am saved. "And Jesus Christ was revealed as God's Son by HIS baptism in water and by shedding HIS blood on the cross - not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit also gives us the testimoney that this is true. So we have these three witnesses - the Spirit, the water and the blood - and all three agree." 1 John 5:6-8 (EMPHASIS, mine) "And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life and this life is in HIS Son. So whoever has God's Son has life; whoever does not have his Son does not have life." 1 John 5:11-12 (EMPHASIS, mine) I have been obedient to God's command. I believe in the testimony that God has provided. I have believed and I have been baptized into His name by the Holy Spirit. As an outward expression of my belief and a desire to follow the example set my Jesus, I too have entered the waters of baptism, but NEVER would I entrust my SALVATION to bathwater! I KNOW WHOM I have believed, and am persuaded that HE is able to keep that what I have committed unto Him against that day! (2 Tim 1:12) |

Grace and Truth: this exchange of views on baptismal regeneration has gone on for days. Clearly, there are those on this Forum who subscribe to positions that differ from yours. From your posts, I understood your agenda in asking this question and chose to answer accordingly. 1 John 2:4 says, "If someone says, "I belong to God," but doesn't obey God's commandments, that person is a liar and does not live in the truth." Are you suggesting that those who do not agree with your interpretation of Mark 16:16 (only those who believe and are baptized, meaning water immersion, will be saved) are disobeying God's command? Are you willing to go so far as to call those who do not subscribe to this brand of theology "liars?" |

We do not "do" or "submit" to water baptism. I CHOSE to identify with Jesus Christ when I entered the waters of baptism as a public testimony of my FAITH in Him! |

866 | Lust of flesh, lust of eye, pride of lif | 1 John 2:15 | Mommapbs | 138542
Greetings. Take a look at Gen 3:6. "When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; . . ." Do you see the "lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life here?!! For more insight, read the notes associated with this verse. Imo, when we love the world in this manner, we love from the flesh, from our carnal sin nature. (See Romans 7-8) We are to love God above all else (Mt 22:37). When we love God, we will respond to the world and to others in the same way that God does. "For God so loved the world . . ." For it is Christ in us who loves; we are but the conduit. Imo, all too often, sin plugs up the holes that God desires to flow through! Imo, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life is the same as loving the world or the things of the world ahead of God. When it's all about me, or all about you, instead of God, it is sin. The original sin was pride; all else flows from this. Both sin and pride have "i" in the center! When we choose to love from our heart (see Dt 30:6, Ez 36:26), from our spirit in Union with Christ, we will love as God desires (Apart from Me, you can do nothing John 15:5) and bring glory to Him. Hi Sweet! You sure have asked a lot of questions! How about filling out your user information profile? It is my firm belief that we, as created beings have an eternal destiny. Where we will spend it has been the subject of much debate that I prefer not to enter into! I believe that the world or "kosmos" in the references that you have cited refers to the collection of individuals apart from Kingdom of God. The "world" had a beginning; and although its influence will cease, the world (those who reject the Son) will spend eternity in utter darkness. Mt 8:12; John 12:46 mommapbs |

868 | what is antichrist? | 1 John 2:18 | Mommapbs | 106385
Hi again wps! Yes, there will be a literal person. The "spirit" of antichrist is also very evident in the world. I am interested in your definition of a "Christian." What we believe about antichrist does not determine our standing before God; what we believe about His Son, Jesus does. See also: 1 John 2:22; 4:3; 1 John 1:7 mommapbs |

869 | Drawing the line | 1 John 3:17 | Mommapbs | 72814
Greetings! Please consider the following passages: Acts 2:42-47 and Gal 6:1-10. The result of a body that is operating in the Spirit of Christ will manifest these characteristics. There is a difference between help and enabling. Paul also said that if a man will not work, he should not eat. Read the passage in 2 Thess 3:3-10. In all things it it the heart attitude that counts. How your church responds to the one in need will be more important than what it does. In the "God's Word" translation, Proverbs 23:6-7 says: "Don't eat with people who are stingy (NASB renders this as selfish); don't desire their delicasies. 'East and drink,' they say, but they don't mean it. They are always thinking about how much it costs." Prayfully consider what is in your own heart first and ask God to reveal to you how you should respond to needs He lays upon your heart. I suspect that perhaps precedent is an issue here but God did not limit His Grace to us and His love knows no boundaries. God knows what we need and gives it to us. Perhaps your church is being called to be "His Hands"? Seek Him first!See Luke 12:16-44 I trust that God will speak through His Word so that you will be able to discern how HE desires you to respond to this situation. Rememeber that there are many needs that can't be met in a monetary way. Blessings, mommapbs |

870 | must be ordained to preach the word | 1 John 4:1 | Mommapbs | 131596
LSmith: (Note, does your husband want to open a church or does God want to open a church? The answer to this question is of primary importance.) you have asked a similar question about ordination before and recieved a couple of responses - I have copied one here from Roger 459 for you to review: Jesus said you can preach without Ordination. Please see, Mark 9:38 and Luke 9:49,50. There is a Warning you must Heed in your Preaching and Teaching, it is James 3:1. One thing I have seen and heard in my walk in Christ, "That there are many 'ignorant brethern' who have ministries that are Biblically Unsound. They do not know the Hebrew of the OT and the Greek of the NT. They are Blind leaders of the Blind. IF it is your desire to Preach, you must be a Desciple of Christ, FIRST! You MUST Know the Word and have a Love for the Brethern, and a Greater Love for the Word. Use the guideliens in 1 and 2 Timothy, especially 2Tim 2:14-16! Thank you! mommapbs writes: Most of the time, the wife of a Pastor is seen as a co-laborer. Your husband is in seminary, preparing himself for the work that God has called him to. What about you? Are you seeking God's will for your life? If not,Godly discipline, perhaps even percieved as "criticism" is necessary. You stated that you were "trying to be a good Christian." From this and the questions you have asked on the Forum, might I suggest that you consider the possibility that God has not finished preparing you for what He is calling you to? First of all, no one "tries" to live the "Christian life." Jesus lives HIS life through us. He clearly states in John 15:5 - "Apart from Me, you can do nothing." Please don't take this as criticism, but consider these words as encouragement to get into the Word and allow God to speak to you there. Continue to ask questions of this Forum, but I urge you to seek out the mentorship of a mature Christian woman of God who will assist you in your spiritual development. You will need much Godly wisdom and direction as the wife of a possible future shepherd of God's flock. Blessings, mommapbs |

871 | Is antichrist a man or a spirit? | 1 John 4:3 | Mommapbs | 87475
Greetings prazn! "And then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. And for this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they might believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness."II Thessalonians 2:8-12, Are you saying that the antichrist is not also a specific individual? If not, then WHO is the man of lawlessness? Also, in Rev 13 we see the composite beast(the spirit of antichrsit) and also an individual (antichrist) Since the devil wages war by offering a counterfit to God, wouldn't it just make sense that he would put forth his own "christ?" mommapbs |

872 | Can perfect love cast out fear? | 1 John 4:18 | Mommapbs | 48235
Greetings 1summers: First of all, we must establish what love and fear are. GOD is LOVE. 1 John 4:8 Just as 1 John 4:18 reminds us, "fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love." Fear is our response to expected punishment - as well it should be when we realize its eternal nature! Because of what Christ did for us in love, we we have no fear of condemnation when we have accepted Him as our Savior! (Romans 8:1) The love of God is the only love than CAN cast out fear! But until we have received His love, fear of punishment is our reality. Jesus said, "But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!" Luke 12:5 Fear is cast out when we accept the love of God for us as demonstrated by Jesus! (We might say that when we ask Jesus to be our Savior, we become "perfected in love" and at times we may need a reminder of this!) "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him." I hope this helps clarify WHO love is and who and what we are to fear! Blessings, Mommapbs |

873 | was Jesus afraid? | 1 John 4:18 | Mommapbs | 85377
NO Jesus was not afraid. Throughout the Bible we are continually told "do not fear." To fear then would be sin, right? Jesus knew no sin. He was not afraid. Recall when Jesus rescued Peter from the waves He asked him, Why did you doubt?" (Mt 14:25-31) Fear is the absence of faith. Jesus knew who He was; the Son of God - He had the presence of the Father with Him - no, He was not afraid of the process of death . . . my opinion is that He did not want to experience the forsaking of God, but for the joy set before Him (our redemption, our reconcilation . . .) He did; He endured the cross! mommapbs |

874 | Why are our nude bodys shamefull? | 1 John 5:3 | Mommapbs | 119327
Greetings! Nakedness is not wrong in the physical sense that one is nude, but because of God's revelation (Take a moment and READ Romans 1:16-32)even in cultures that live like this, there is still an awareness of "nakedness." In a previous post, heisthe1 wrote: "Before the fall, Adam and Eve, Gen 2:25, were both naked, "and not ashamed". The idea of nakedness is far more than mere nudity, it has the sense of being totally open and exposed as a person before God and man. To be naked and "not ashamed" means that you have no sin. Nothing to be rightly ashamed of - you really can be an open book to another person. Genesis 3:7, satans temptation was all the more powerful because there was truth in it. It was true that "your eyes will be opened, and this was fulfilled in this verse, but their eyes were instantly opened to their own sin and rebellion." Jesus counsels us in this age to recognize that we are blind, wretched and naked. (Rev 3:17) We have rebelled against Him - we have rejected His created order and dominion. Would you jump from an airplane without a parachute? No, becuse the law of gravity is in operation and you KNOW that you would fall to your death. What is the source of this law? Can you see this law? Is this law for our benefit? (Without it, we would al fly off the face of the earth!) Isn't it strange how we readily choose to obey God's physical laws and ignore His moral ones? God is the Creator, we are the created. He has established ALL laws for OUR BENEFIT! When we violate any laws, there are conseqences. God established a social and moral order from the beginning. He didn't create Adam and Steve, but Adam and Eve and gave this command - God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Gen 1:28 God's creation was entrusted to man to build upon - the family was the social foundation for the creation of culture. The created order of God has been understood by every society. For the Greeks it was called "logos," (Jesus is called the Word or logos - John 1:1) for the Eastern peoples it was called "tao." This established order has been percieved by pagan and western cultures alike - up until now as moral relativism has replaced moral law. So, consensual or not, anything that violates God's established laws for man will reap the consequences of that choice - which we are seeing today as the foundation of the family is being seriously eroded. Just because you don't recognize the "law" does not mean that you will not experience the results of its violation! Sadly, our culture has rejected God's Lordship over His creation. The consequences of this rejection are multiplying today, oh that people would open their eyes to their "nakedness!" Today Jesus warns the world, "'Because you say, 'I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,' and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see." Rev 3:17-18 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His ommandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. I pray that the Spirit of God will "work this out" for you! Blessings, mommapbs |

875 | Does Islam fit? | 2 John 1:7 | Mommapbs | 129310
Greetings Pastor Glenn - you've hit one one of my "hot buttons" here! According to 2 Timothy 4:2-4 Paul charges Timothy (and us) with his responsibility as a witness of/to the Truth to "Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with great patience and instruction." He then goes on to give the reason WHY, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn their ears away from the truth and will turn aside to myths." IMO, the church has neglected the task of "church discipline." At the extreme, those who support gay rights flock to churches where the ordained pastor is gay or does not preach homosexuality as a sin BUT to me, the greater issue is much more subtle as differences and disagreements have resulted in divisions and splits within bodies of believers. Jesus commands us to "love one another as HE loves." When we don't, is this not sin? Is this sin to be overlooked? Mt 18 gives clear guidance in (of)"fence mending." Just wondering, does your congregation follow this pattern do they get together and back stab and "gossip"? Just as God's discipline is for our bebefit, we must see church disciplin in the same way - it is indeed an act of love when applied in a Biblical manner. But imo, (and my experience)all too often it is not done in humility and love, but with condemnaion and self-righteousness. I totally agree, when sin is in our midst, we not only must be obedient to God, but in our obedience we serve one another, indeed as you have said, "We owe it to them to speak out with gentleness and love." 876 | Are we not judged by how we vote? | 2 John 1:11 | Mommapbs | 71794
Greeetings Jim, welcome to the Forum. As Christ followers, we must be careful to honor and submit to those in authority over us,being ever mindful of the Supreme authority to Whom we must all give an account. It is difficult for me to vote for an individual who does not share my personal convictions about the abortion issue, and as a believer, I choose not to vote for "pro-choice" individuals. However, if God places them in authority over me, God's Word is quite clear that I must submit to their "rule." Although abortion is legally permissible, it is not God-honoring, and thankfully in this country, no one can make a woman undergo this elective procedure. I believe that we have an obligation to give everyone a reason for the hope that is with in us as Christ followers,(1 Peter 3:15) and one way to do this is in the voting booth. Sadly, Bible believing Christians are in the minority and the majority rules! However . . . Regardless of human failings or flawed voting methods, truth does and will prevail. God casts the final ballot; it is His one that counts, for God’s sanction alone gives authority to those that rule over us! Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. God has established the authorities that exist. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. Romans 13:1-2 Even if we don't like the man chosen to lead our country, we need not blame those who voted or counted the votes. God’s Word assures us that this is the man to whom the Lord has given the authority to govern. This is a sobering and awesome responsibility for those who are charged with leadership; for with authority comes accountability. Our leaders, as well as those they lead will have to answer for the choices they have made the One who empowers us all! Thankfully, in God’s Kingdom there will be no pregnant or hanging chads, indents or dimples to consider. (There will be no manual recount either!) For God is the judge; and only He knows the intentions of our hearts! In heaven there will be no Republicans, Democrats, Conservatives, or Independents. There will be no denominational monikers for us to identify with either! Only those who have chosen Jesus will be there. So until then, the invitation is still open to cast your ballot: "choose this day WHO you will serve." Joshua 24:15 And this, my friend is the only vote that really counts! The secret to living in a society that does not honor God's laws is to love and pray for our leaders and those in authority over us! (Mt 5:44 et al) mommapbs |

877 | Was Lucille Ball a christian? | Revelation | Mommapbs | 39094
http://entertainment.crosswalk.com has an interview with Kathleen Brady, the author of Lucille: The Life Lucille Ball. In the interview she was questioned about the faith of Lucy. Kathleen replied:"She was not raised in a church-going family and she agreed to have the kids brought up in Desi's Catholic faith. DeDe, Lucy's mom who was not Catholic, took the kids to church. After the divorce, when Lucy was in Wildcat in New York City, she attended Norman Vincent Peale's church. He told me she would try to disguise herself in a big hat and veil. One day after church he told her to take the hat off because everyone knew who she was. She liked a practical religion -- if an approach like positive thinking worked, she followed it." One's Christianity is not dependent upon any denomination or religious practice. Unless you can find someone who knew the state of Lucy's heart, you cannot presume anything about her faith in Jesus or lack of it. Hope this helps. Mommapbs |
