821 | Does God speak to us directly? | Heb 1:2 | Mommapbs | 123890
Greetings! Input Heb 1:2 in the Questions/Notes on verse text field in the green stipe at the top of this page. God does indeed speak to us. We can "hear" Him through His Word. "Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel."Ezk 3:10 Sometimes God may speak unbidden but mostly we hear Him as we desire to hear His voice. God speaks to us throguh His Word, through His Spirit, through prayer, through circumstances and through other people to name a few . . . I also believe that God speaks to some in visions and dreams. God's voice may also be audible for some (He has spoken this way to me three times.) Since everyone's relationship with the Lord is personal, we should be careful not to put limits upon what God can or can not do - one time, He spoke by using a donkey. God still speaks, the question is: are we listening? Blessings, mommapbs |

Survivor - thank you sharing your profile with the Forum, however you STILL have not answered our request - Hank and other have repeatedly asked, "Are you a Jehovah's Witness?" I would like a simple YES or NO answer: Is Jesus GOD (Jehovah)? |

823 | Searching for the truth | Heb 2:4 | Mommapbs | 76000
Hi FytRobert! There are those who "use" the manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit as a "litmus test" of sorts. But from this verse we see that the gifts of the Holy Spirit (as listed in 1 Cor 12) are given according the will of God. Is His will be that we parade them in front of others for affirmation? The purpose of the gifts is to edify the BODY, not the individual.(1 Cor 12:7) What you are reporting should be troubling, for what is the motive behind the request for the manifestation of the gifts of tounges to be evident? We are told to desire the greater gifts,(1 Cor 12:31) . . . where does "speaking in tongues" fall on this list of gifts? What are the "greater gifts?" Blessings, mommapbs |

824 | What is the heavenly calling? | Heb 3:1 | Mommapbs | 111820
Greetings! Just as God called Abram to leave his country and go to a land that God would show him, we too are called to leave the kingdom of this world and become citizens of the Kingdom of God. Our destination is to dwell in the "Promised Land" - Heaven. (Phil 3:20) Do see 21564 (written by Tim Moran) Whenever a verse begins with "therefore" I ask, "What's it there for?" and check the previous verse. "For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted." Heb 2:18 Our heavenly calling is what is in store for us, but right now, we are told to "consider Jesus." To me, this is the most important aspect of this verse. Why do you think we told to "consider" Him? Could it be that it is because we are citizens of a Heavenly Kingdom, living in enemy territory? You do realize this! And so you are tempted . . . to want your own way, you want God to do things your way etc. And yet you desire to walk intimately with the Lord. This indeed is the struggle common to most of us! Jesus is there to help you with all the issues that draw you away, for He was tempted too. He calls you to engage in spiritual warfare with Him - the battle is for your mind, BUT your heart belongs to God, you are secure in your "heavenly calling." You vacillate between two masters - but "greater is He who is in you that he who is in the world!" (1 John 4:4) Are you considering Jesus? He has secured for you an inheritance in Heaven - and walks with you daily until that Day when He welcomes you home . . . I hope you will be encouraged to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith! (Heb 12:2) Blessings, mommmapbs |

825 | Heavenly things required cleansing???? | Heb 9:23 | Mommapbs | 114683
Greetings Huron, as I consider your questions I am reminded of the rebellion that took place in Heaven between God and Lucifer.(Is 14:12-14)(Perhaps this is the reason Heaven needed to be cleansed from/of the evil that Satan conceived - I offer this as a suggestion ONLY!) Remember that the earthly tabernacle was a copy of what was in Heaven See Heb 8:1-6. Satan still has access to Heaven as the "accuser of the brethren" (and yet Christ, our High Priest, is our continual intercessor!)but only for a short time! Rev 12:10;12. Blessings, mommapbs |

826 | Another possible view? | Heb 9:23 | Mommapbs | 115375
Greetings Huron - the believer is already purified 1 Cor 6:11 and the church has not yet been removed from the world. (you're reading this right?!) Why not post the question about the purification again and ask for some commentary on this? As far as copies of heavenly things goes, I did do a study on this but the file is on a different computer. If I don't get back to you in a few days - jog me again! (I'm babysitting for a couple of weeks and right now, the baby is asleep in the room with the PC) Blessings, mommapbs |

827 | Another possible view? | Heb 9:23 | Mommapbs | 116217
Greetings Huron - here is what I promised to send for your consideration! As I study God's Word I begin to see a pattern emerge - things on earth are copies of things in Heaven. In teaching us to pray, Jesus said, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." The Tree of Life was in the Garden (Gen 3:22) - it is also in Heaven (22:2). The earthly tabernacle was a pattern of the Heavenly one (Gen 25:9) The Ark of the Covenant is a copy of the Ark the John saw in Heaven. (Rev 11:19) Mt. Zion, the Holy mountain of God in Heaven (Heb 12:22) has an earthly counterpart on Earth (many references but esp. Joel 2:32 "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.") And just perhaps, the 144,000 redeemed from the earth are IN HEAVEN (Rev 14:1) and their counterparts are the 144,000 sealed Jews of Rev 7 God copies - but don't forget that Satan counterfeits! Blessings, mommapbs |

828 | Operate on faith or endure? | Heb 11:1 | Mommapbs | 23848
Faith always has an object. Jesus is the object of our faith. We believe God because of WHO HE IS; we are confident that He will do as He promises. But do we leap off a bridge because He says in Jude 1:24 that "He will keep us from falling?" Hardly! We must be very careful to not abuse God's Word! God's plans for our lives do not come in a neatly wrapped box, ready for us to tear into and enjoy. Instead, His plan is most often hidden, waiting to be discovered! There is great joy in seeking and finding the "surprises" of God! In order to help you sort out your situation may I suggest the following: place your wants and God's will in separate categories until you are sure that they are aligned. Do not not trust your "feelings." Faith is not about feelings, but it is being confident about WHO and what we cannot see. You believe that your calling is to help others. You want to quit your job. Where does God's will figure into these statements? If God has indeed called you to serve others, are you sure that it is specifically "personal training?" If it is, then God will give others for you to serve. But, before you "leap" I would encourage you to spend much time in prayer and in searching God's Word for direction. He will be faithful to answer you when you call upon Him! Sometimes He says, "Yes;" sometimes He says, "No;" and other times He says, "Wait a while." After this, please seek the counsel of a mature believer. God's plan will be clear when what He says by His Spirit through His Word, through prayer, through experiences He gives you, and through other believers is in agreement. You have faith in Jesus. This faith enables you to endure the period you are now in! I call this "God's waiting room!" God's Word tells us to wait patiently for Him! If your hope is in Jesus - He knows what you need and will provide, but it will be in His timing. Don't rush God; let Him make the path straight before you! Sometimes, He has to get out heavy equipment to move some roadblocks - but it's worth the wait! |

829 | How has ART fed your faith? | Heb 11:1 | Mommapbs | 84147
Greetings, the art of Bill Hyer is especially meaningful to me. A couple of years ago I attended a gallery that had several of his paintings. One in particular moved me in a way I have never experienced before - through this work, the Lord showed me that His forgiveness was all that I needed. Nothing that I do for Him matters - it's all about Jesus. A year later I saw the painting again in another gallery and was just as moved. I whispered a prayer to the Lord that if it was possible, I would like to have this painting. To make a long story short, I received this as a complete surprise for my birthday and it JUST FITS in my livingroom where I enjoy it every day. (Interestingly, this replaced a watercolor of a girl with very sad eyes offering a bouquet of flowers . . . again, it's all about what Jesus has done for us, not what we do for Him!) And no, it's not a shrine; it is a reminder of the sufficiency of God's Grace - I guess the Lord knows I need this! Remember that you are the instrument in the Hand of the Master! May the Lord speak to many through "your" art! mommapbs |

831 | Mass before Jesus,how they get salvation | Heb 11:2 | Mommapbs | 148787
Greetings William - all men are saved from the wrath of God against sin when they are declared righteous - or without sin - by God. All men are justified or declared righteous by God in the SAME manner, BY God's Grace through faith (Eph 2:8) - read all of Hebrews 11. Men of old gained God's approval just like we do - they believed God and it was credited to them as righteousness - they were declared "not guilty" of sin. Jesus is the fulfillment of the promise of God - imo, it is much easier to believe God because of Jesus than it was when there were only promises. Believe in God, believe also in Me (John 14:1) said Jesus - One and the same with the Father. One Lord over all from the Old Testament to the present. Blessings, mommapbs Behold, the LORD'S hand is not so short That it cannot save; Nor is His ear so dull That it cannot hear. Is 59:1 |

832 | How were ppl saved before Jesus came? | Heb 11:6 | Mommapbs | 49213
Hebrews 11:1-2 tells us: "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval." Read this chapter in Hebrews! Praise God, He has given us the fulfilment of His promise, Jesus, for us to have faith in today! Blessings, Mommapbs |

833 | Tell about Abraham's devotion to God. | Heb 11:8 | Mommapbs | 62674
Greetings Controling! With respect to your questions, Gen 21 is about dealing with the consequences of a LACK of devotion to God. Hagar and Ishmael were the result of Abram's LACK of faith that God would do as HE promised!(See Gen 17) Sadly, the world continues to reap the harvest of Abraham's disobedience today. I hope this helps. Blessings, Mommapbs |

Greetings, this is the first promise of God's plan to restore sinful man. It seems to me that the OT saints had incredible faith - for they only had the promise and we have its fulfillment to believe! mommapbs |

835 | Correct typo error "does" to "dies" | Heb 12:1 | Mommapbs | 50878
Greetings Faithema! Welcome to the Forum. I am sorry for the loss of your father. There is great comfort in KNOWING that the ones we love are in Heaven. Peter Marshall said, "Those we love are with the Lord. If they are with HIM and HE is with us, they cannot be far away!" This verse in Hebrews suggests that those who have gone before us are a witness of God's activity in the lives of His children who remain on the earth. The only one necessary in Heaven to pray for you is Jesus - He is all you need! There is no human love that can compare to the love of Jesus that surrounds your Dad and you today. The love of the Lord binds your hearts together - your Dad knows through Jesus what REAL love is! May the love of Jesus comfort you today! Blessings! Mommapbs |

836 | HEB 12 v1-2 | Heb 12:2 | Mommapbs | 84802
Greetings chumbu - there is no "formula" for joy - it can not be obtained by human effort. It belongs to God and He gives His joy to us. "The joy of the Lord is my strength" Neh 8:10 WE, believers are HIS JOY! Zeph 3:17, Luke 15:7 The "prize" or joy set before Him refers to our redemption from sin, our reconciliation with God that Jesus obtained for us on the cross. Again, WE are His joy His prized possession. 1 Peter 2:9 As we grasp this truth; as we allow it to permeate our hearts and minds, the joy of the Lord floods our soul. We experience this joy only through the presence of Christ in our lives. It can not be obtained any other way. As we allow the joy of the Lord to be the lens through which we see others, our attitudes will be conformed to His and we experience His joy . . . when there is nothing that you can rejoice in, remember that you can rejoice in the joy of your salvation. This simple truth enables us to "give thanks IN everything." I hope this helps. mommapbs |

837 | what is exceptable sexually in mairrage | Heb 13:4 | Mommapbs | 110056
Greetings - it is my opinion that the marriage bed is to be a reflection of the mutually submissive union between a husband and wife. From this verse, sex outside of that union is what "defiles." If one partner objects to a sexual practice, then the other should be willing to honor that. "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;" Phi 2:3 mommapbs |

838 | Leader of the Church | Heb 13:17 | Mommapbs | 72531
Greetings! Since I have struggled with the submission issue in my church I take note when others experience similar issues. In case you might be interested, a book I have been reading called, "The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse" by David Johnson and Jeff Vanvonderen, has been a real eye opener for me. Amazon.com has a good summary of this book: Churches are meant to be safe places where spiritual leaders help and equip the members for the work of service. There are some churches, however, where leaders use their spiritual authority to control and dominate others, attempting to meet their own needs for importance, power, intimacy or spiritual gratification. Through the subtle use of the right "spiritual" words, church members are manipulated or shamed into certain behaviors or performance that ensnares in legalism, guilt and begrudging service. This is spiritual abuse, and the results can be shattering. Deeply ingrained spiritual codes of written and unwritten rules control and condemn, wounding believers' spirits and keeping them from the grace and joy of God's kingdom. Believers find themselves enslaved to a system, a leader, a standard of performance that saps true spiritual life. This is a message for Christians who feel they are spiritually abused and for those who might be causing it." mommapbs |

839 | biblical defination of widow/orphan? | James 1:27 | Mommapbs | 199410
Hi Rubygirl - See 1 Timothy 5 for some more spcifics on widows. When I read this verse I am reminded that only Jesus is "pure", "undefiled" and "unstained by the world." I suspect that these terms (widows and orphans in their distress) are used to identify what they need most. This is expressed by what they lack - a husband and an father. These could also be used in contrast to and to emphasize who we are IN Christ - the bride and adopted children. When Christ followers submit to His work in us, we become the conduit of His love as a Bridegroom to the widow and the Everlasting Father to the orphan. Blessings, mommapbs |

840 | how we ofend others with our mouths | James 3:3 | Mommapbs | 33434
Greetings! As one who has misused words all too frequently, I offer this in response. The mouth is like a water pitcher. Out of it can come healing or wounding words. And just as a bit in the horse's mouth affects the whole horse, so do our words affect another. The words we utter also reflect the heart that conceives them! We all have a choice when we speak - but even unspoken words can still hurt.(Check out Proverbs 25:11!) "When you look at the scars left by the past, what do you remember - the wounding or the healing?" (pbs 8/00) Blessings, Mommapbs |
