Bible Question: What is the biblical defination of a widow and orphan? |
Bible Answer: Hi Rubygirl - See 1 Timothy 5 for some more spcifics on widows. When I read this verse I am reminded that only Jesus is "pure", "undefiled" and "unstained by the world." I suspect that these terms (widows and orphans in their distress) are used to identify what they need most. This is expressed by what they lack - a husband and an father. These could also be used in contrast to and to emphasize who we are IN Christ - the bride and adopted children. When Christ followers submit to His work in us, we become the conduit of His love as a Bridegroom to the widow and the Everlasting Father to the orphan. Blessings, mommapbs |
