61 | OT says Altar of Insence is outside viel | Heb 9:2 | Val | 214285
Welcome Roberta, M. C. Tenney addressed this in The Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia of the Bible - The position of this altar in the Tabernacle seems to have been within the inner sanctuary just before the Ark of the covenant, Exod 40:5; Lev 16:11-14, on which the high priest sprinkled the blood of atonement once a year, Exodus 30:10. The golden altar of Solomon's temple was placed in the inner sancturay, 1 Kings 6:20,22, but in the third Temple it seems to have been outside the veil within the Holy Place, Luke 1:10. Revelation speaks of an altar of incense that stood before the throne of God, Rev 8:3. The reference to the golden altar in Hebrews 9:3 agrees that it was within the inner sanctuary. The apparent conflict between Exodus 30:6 and 40:26 and the other passages which locate it beyond the veil has been given different solutions. Snaith, Leviticus and Numbers, p.43, suggests that the original text was modified to suit the arrangement of the second and third Temples, and that there was no altar of incense in the Tablernacle. He follows Wellhausen's argument that two separate sources are responsible for the difference. In the light of the fact that small incense altars were used by the Canaanites from the earliest times in Pal., it is hardly possible that such were unknown, or that an altar of incense could not have been part of the furniture of the Tabernacle. The apparent discrepancy in the location of the golden altar may arise from differing usages between the Tabernacle and the Temple, or from the fact that it stood so close to the Ark that it was classed with the Holy of Holies because it represented an intercessory ministry in the presence of God. One Jewish source suggests that Exodus 25:1 through 27:19 is the blueprint for the construction of the Tabernacle, while Exodus 40:1-33 describes the actual assembling of the building and consequently a modification of position. - M.C. Tenney Hope this helps, Val |

62 | A answer cut short? | Ezek 16:53 | Val | 214214
Yes I did read it and its context and looked for commentaries on it. I am wondering if Sodom stands for the southern kingdom. I don't know for sure and didn't immediately find anything on it. That is why I suggested a word study on Sodom. I believe you are talking about the city that was destroyed with fire. If you will note my first answer I said the 1,000 year reign will be "centered" in Jerusalem. I agree Christ will rule over all but his rule will center in Jerusalem. The nations will come up to Him there. I didn't say He wouldn't rule the whole world. I do study the whole bible and have studied both Revelation and the Kings and Prophets. I am thinking Sodom will never be restored until the New Heaven and New Earth. Maybe someone else has a better answer for you. The regulars who read this forum usually read through the threads so the question is not cut off. They will add to the thread if they want to. A word study will tell you if God says Sodom, the geographical city will ever be restored. Word studies are good things and I think it will require further research which I believe you can do on your own. If it is figurative language referring the the southern kingdom which had divided after Solomon then I think it is talking about the people. Since it says I will restore them from their captivity I am thinking it is talking about the people returning to the land. Maybe someone else on the forum has some insight for you. Sincerely, Val |

64 | Jesus warns not to go into the village? | Mark 8:26 | Val | 214202
If you read the gospel accounts one of the things He would say something to the effect that He was doing things in His fathers timeline. For some reason this would not have went along with the timeline. Sincerely, Val

In other words if a man is delivered from demon possession and does not fill himself with Jesus then he is in danger of the demon returning. A person cannot remain neutral. He is either for Jesus or against him. Luke 11:23 Sincerely, Val |

It is a fulfillment of the promise made to King David. 2 Sam 7:12 "When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom. Something that will help you in answering your questions is to look at the cross references for the particular verse in question. They will shed light on the verse in question. 70 | proclaim the year of the Lords favor?? | Luke 4:21 | Val | 214184
Christ is reading from Isaiah. He says in verse 21 that He is the fulfilment of this passage. In other words He is the Messiah. Luke 4:18 "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED, Luke 4:19 TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD." Luke 4:20 And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. Luke 4:21 And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." |

73 | The use of question in Bible's text? | Psalm | Val | 214152
Hopefully it would accomplish a careful, thoughtful reading of the word. By asking questions it causes your mind to think and grasp what is being said. It causes you to look at the context of the passage. It slows you down to where you really look and remember what is being said. It shows you who the author is, the recepients, the purpose for writing, the historical and cultural context. Repeated topics form the theme of the chapter and book. Sincerely, Val
74 | Why did Jesus fold His Napkin/Facecloth? | John 20:7 | Val | 214149
Dear Pattycake, Since the scripture does not provide an explanation we can just say what it says and that is that it was rolled up in a place by itself. Sincerely, Val
75 | Does Jesus die for Gentile's sins too? | Gen 18:18 | Val | 214145
The first mention is in Genesis 18:18. Christ the Messiah is the same God of the Old Testament. When we look at Jesus we are looking at God. He called himself the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. His line can be traced back to Abraham. He chose Abraham and his descendants to be His people and He would be their God. He said in you, Abraham, all the nations of the earth would be blessed. This is referring to the fact that when Christ the Messiah came, people would be saved who called upon His name. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. In bible study we consider the whole counsel of God, 66 books to know Him and His plan of redemption. Read all of the bible. There are some believers who make it a practice to read the bible through at least once a year. It can be read through in about three months. Before making final conclusions we have to read all 66 books. Sincerely, Val |

76 | Rapture | Rev 20:1 | Val | 214132
Dear C.S.; Welcome to the forum. 1 and 2 Thessalonians are the first writings on the rapture. There are many books written about this topic but I find the best book is the bible itself. There is an inductive study method which uses the bible as the main learning tool. In depth studies of the books of the bible can be found at Precept.org. I have studied Thessalonians and it was a wonderful study and highly recommend it. It takes time and dedication to study this way but it is well worth the cost. Sincerely, Val
77 | What would make this allogory? | 1 John 3:2 | Val | 214093
Dear Bibleman, Welcome to the forum. Its is a custom here to mark a followup question to someone as a note so that it leaves the front page for original questions. I am thinking John may be preparing for Sunday service and will get back to you. Let me add if I may that the type of interpretations of the prohecy passages such as Revelation and Daniel as well as other verses from other books can be found at Preceptaustin.org. Just search for Revelation 20 and it will give you an explanation as to why allegory is used in interpretation of this passage. There are I believe three or four different methods used to interpret prophecy and it gives a list of the commentators and their preferred method. Let us all agree to disagree with gentleness and respect. I believe our brother John was just saying this passage is a difficult passage to interpret and that many well studied respected scholars differ on their interpretive views therefore it is not unusual for us to disagree on such passages. Sincerely, Val
78 | What does judgement look like | 2 Cor 5:10 | Val | 213977

80 | Book of Exodus | Ex 1:1 | Val | 213958
They were the descendants of Jacob also known as Israel. Joseph, Jacob's son, was sold into slavery and later found favor with Pharoah and was in charge of Pharoah's affairs. Abraham was called by God to a land flowing with milk and honey. He was also told of the 400 years bondage in Egypt. He was also told that God would bring his descendants out of Egypt. The main theme is that God made a covenant with Abraham to give him this land forever. Joseph and all of his brothers died in Egypt but the promise also known as covenant was for Abraham's descendants. God called Moses to lead them out of Egypt. We see that the people in bondage in Egypt knew their God as they cried out to Him in their affliction from the taskmasters and God sent word to them by Moses and his brother Aaron that He had heard them and was going to deliver them. Sincerely, Val |
