82 | Actual bodies in heaven? | 1 John 3:2 | Val | 213954
I believe the best example that we can look at is the resurrected body of Christ. In reading the four gospels you will see different things about His resurrectd body. That He could walk through walls. That the disciples could see and touch Him. Also, you may look at the mount of transfiguration in which you will see Elijah and Moses and the Lord talking. They were recognizable. You ask what is the significance of a body in heaven. Well simply that we may recognize each other and have a relationship with one another. This is why we so look forward to heaven is to enjoy our relationship with Christ and the belivers of the bible and our own families who have already gone on. It gives us hope. A sure hope that those relationships that we once had on earth will be renewed when we get to heaven. To me that is the greatest significance; to see my Lord and my family. Sincerely, Val
83 | Bingo! Gambleing! | 2 Tim 1:1 | Val | 213923
There is a verse that says something to the effect that there are some things that are not wrong but they are not profitable. It is written by Paul who compares the christian's walk as a race. One who runs in a race puts aside those things that would hinder his race. Many things come under this verse such as drinking, smoking, gambling, overeating, etc. Do a word study on profitable or read the epistles of the Apostle Paul. Sincerely, Val |

84 | Rapture | Rev 20:1 | Val | 213921
On Preceptaustin.org you will see the different approaches to interpreting Revelation. Enter Revelation 20 to see more information on this topic. There is also a list of commentators and their interpretive bends so that when someone uses that commentator you know what they lend towards. It is better to study the bible for yourself inductively than to go to what others say first about the bible because: One, you form your own opinion first, Second, you learn more, Third, you remember more, Fourth, you develop your study skils, Fifth, it is more rewarding. There is a good in depth study of Revelation at Precept.org. Sincerely, Val |

86 | wiping feet with hair? | Luke 7:40 | Val | 213821
The passage is self-explanatory. When picking a single verse out of the bible it is necessary to read the context of the verse which means you read what goes before the verse and after the verse. Here we see the gratefulness of the women toward Lord Jesus who has forgiven her sins. The streets were dusty and upon entering a home it was the custom to wash the guest's feet. Luke 7:40 And Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he replied, "Say it, Teacher." Luke 7:41 "A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Luke 7:42 "When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?" Luke 7:43 Simon answered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And He said to him, "You have judged correctly." Luke 7:44 Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. Luke 7:45 "You gave Me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet. Luke 7:46 "You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume. Luke 7:47 "For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little." Luke 7:48 Then He said to her, "Your sins have been forgiven." |

87 | continued pursuit, or saving faith | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 213818
Dear Beja, I believe faith grows. A genuine faith in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Let me give an example. Look at Lot and Abraham. Abraham was concerned you might say with the things of God. Lot on the other hand was concerned with the here and now yet Lot was a righteous man. Who had the "bigger" faith. I would say Abraham. Lot on the other hand had a lot of family and friend problems to the extend that they laughed at his faith. Sincerely, Val
88 | Bearing His Name: Jehovah? | Acts 15:14 | Val | 213679
Dear Raffa; I think you are not seeing the big picture. Look at the book of Acts, what is it about? Is it not the beginning of the church? Who did God start the church with? Was it not His Son Jesus? Calling oneself by a name does not make that person right with God does it? What makes a person right with God in your thinking? Sincerely, Val
89 | Woman in pants | Deut 22:5 | Val | 213664
Dear Kcab: I think the answer lies in the fact that this was a different culture than our culture. The dress code has changed where they make pantsuits that are very feminine nowadays. Deuteronomy was written by Moses and was part of the covenant God made with Israel. I am not familiar with the dress code of that day, i.e., what kind of clothes they made but it seems to me the overall message has to do with women acting/dressing like men and men acting/dressing like women. Today people do it to be funny or because of immorality so it seems it would apply to motive. We know that men are attracted to women and women to men so if someone disguished themselves as the opposite sex and attracted same gender attention that would be immorality. Its deceit to dress as the opposite sex in a way that hides your gender. Today the pantsuits and jeans accentuate curves so men have no problem identifying a woman as a woman but if a man wears a dress they wouldn't know since that is more deceitful. If a denomination demands women not wear pantsuits as they did in the past they are looked upon as legalistic. They still demand men not wear dresses and so should they. Sincerely, Val |

91 | is a christian allowed to drink | 1 Cor 6:10 | Val | 213522
Dear jeh777: the question first of all is based on the assumption of salvation by works. Read the book of Galatians and you will see that a person does not receive salvation by what they do or do not do. One receives salvation by belief in Jesus Christ who died on the cross, was buried, and rose from the dead. Surrendering your life to Him to follow Him as Saviour and Lord by this belief in Him is how one is saved. Now as to your question can a person drink wine. The bible says in one place that we are not to judge each other in regards to drinking and eating. The bible says in another place that drinking to the point of getting drunk is a sin. Food and drink should be done in moderation. The bible says in another place that whatever you do do it to the glory of God and do not put a stumbling block in another person's path. You can do a word study with your concordance on these words; drunkenness, wine, drink, stumbling, and other words and search the scriptures for yourself. This should be a matter that you earnestly pray about. Sincerely, Val |

92 | Samuel serving where he shouldn | 1 Sam 1:1 | Val | 213373
Dear MJH; a good set of books is the Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia of the bible. They can be purchased for about 50-60 dollars and there are five volumes. I read up on the priesthood and found that the requirements given by Moses to Aaron and his sons may have been primarily while they were wandering in the wilderness. After Aaron's death the words Levites and priests became synomous. As Keily has already stated Samuel was from the priestly line. One good thing about these volumes is you can read each name and a desciption of them and their ancestors. Most valuable in my reading this topic is the following: Influence of OT priesthood on Christian Doctrine - The Levitical priesthood and the sacrifical system in which it operated, found their fulfillment and perfection in Christ. In the NT, Christ is the High Priest, Hebrews, Romans 3:25. He is the great High Priest, eternally one with the Father, Hebrew 1; identified with man in Incarnation, Hebrews 2:14-18; 4:15; 5:1, 8-10. He is the mediator of the new covenant 7:23-28; 8:6-13; 9:15, perfecting eternal redemption, 9:11-28; 10:11-18 and assuring His people of constant access to God 10:19-25. Moveover, all of God's people are priests in the NT 1 Peter 2:5, 9, Romans 12:1, Hebrews 13:15, Revelation 1:5. Two vital elements were transmitted to the NT teaching: the doctrine of priestly mediation and the priestly hierarachy. The Epistle to the Hebrews builds on the teaching of the effectual high priesthood of Christ. Ministry in the Church has replaced the ancient God-ordained hierarchy. - C. L. Feinberg Sincerely, Val |

94 | where is daniels book | Dan 1:1 | Val | 213329
Dear crk5150: You can go to Preceptaustin.org and read to your heart's content. Just use the Bible reference to searh for Daniel 12. There are many good ones. I would recommend John MacArthur's commentary. The book is Daniel and is located in the bible. Its not a separate book. Daniel wrote down the revelation that was given to him and therefore we have the Book of Daniel located in the Holy Bible. Sincerely, Val |

95 | Is it God speaking?? | James 1:5 | Val | 213328
Dear Lissamz: I know what you mean when you say people are always talking about God speaking to them and speaking to their hearts. The following comments may be true for some people not all. Be aware that this is a language that people learn in their circles. I have known people to hide behind the language. Its an image they want to project if you will. Its a way also of keeping people at arm's length. Instead of just forming boundaries they use this form of talk to feel good about themselves and their families and friends. It has nothing to do with God speaking to them because when you look closely they admit they do not read much less study the bible. Find a new circle of friends. Those whose daily practices is to study the word and are humble. Sincerely, Val |

96 | Why do we need the law if we have grace? | Heb 1:1 | Val | 213184

97 | God always gets what he desires? T or F | 1 Tim 2:3 | Val | 213152
Dear Norton, there are two doctrines in the bible that some lean more to one doctrine than the other. To understand these two doctrines, predestination and man's responsbility is something that the historical scholars and modern day scholars are still debating. There is much passion on both sides. To open this can of worms causes division and tempers to flare. Because of this we might better just use the search engine to see where the discussion has led in the past and not re-hash these things that have already been said. Holding to Him - Val
98 | Love for all, judge not anyone | OT general | Val | 213119
Dear Kamschoolgrad, I agree with Brother Tim Moran's answer to you. Of utmost importance when reading the bible is to ask who, what, when, where, why and how questions. There are 66 books of the bible. Mr. Smith picked out verses that went along with his line of thinking about a particular topic. He confesses that he is not a believer. There is a verse in Corinthians that says "1 Cor 1:18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." Also we are to be discernable as to who to witness to and not to witness to. We are warned not to cast our pearls before swine in Matt 7:6 "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces." Understanding the verses this person has cited would require you to do a book study on each book where the verses are found so that you yourself might fully understand the topic. There is a culture war going on in our country, the world for the most part. I don't know if your time would be well spent trying to teach the bible to an unbeliever. That is something you will have to seek the Lord for guidance. In the meantime you might study these topics to aid your understanding; old covenant, new covenant, the book of Leviticus and the book of Hebrews. Precept.org has an excellent topical study on "Covenant". It goes over all the covenants in the bible and how they tie together. Excellent. It is a great help. Holding to Him - Val |

99 | Abraham and Abimelech | James 4:2 | Val | 213117
Dear Cheri, A topical study on prayer would be helpful. I will make two points concerning your question. The first point is that God works through the prayers of His people. This is the way He has chosen to work. This is why prayer is so important. The second point is that Abimelech is not someone who worships God. He worships some other god. He became involved in this situation because of the deception of Abraham. God has mercy on him. Sometimes unbelievers can be an example to believers. They know that believers are different and when they act contrary to that they call them on it. I don't think Abraham was exalted in any way. It was probably a rebuke to him because he was afraid of telling Abimelech the truth from the start rather than trusting God for the circumstances. Holding to Him - Val
100 | Divorce and Remarry | John 3:16 | Val | 212778
Dear Ema, I am so sorry for your circumstances. Within christendom there is an on going debate on this topic. Please know that we cannot offer advice as we are not equipped to provide you that type involvement. I pray that God grants you another avenue to help and support you. There are many good christian counseling services. Perhaps checking at your local churches you might find one. Seek the Lord in this matter. Blessings - Val
