61 | living togeather out of wedlock | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 145159
Greetings and welcome - while you and I and many other folks may read God's Word and discover that He warns us to abstain from sex outside of marriage (fornication), yet until the individuals who are involved recongize that this is rebellion against God, there is really nothing you can do. The Holy Spirit does the convicting; He does not need any help. My best advice is for you to pray without ceasing for this couple, that God would open their eyes to the reality of their living situation in HIS eyes and that they would desire to honor Him in their relaitonship with one another. You can be a supportive friend and encourage them to see for themself what God's Word has to say. I would direct you to the instance of adultery in 2 Sam 11 - God's Word is very clear about the sin of sex outside of marraige - remember that our relationship to God is described in marital terms. We are the "Bride" of Christ - and yet how often does He find us "sleeping with the devil?" Sober thoughts here! Blessings, mommapbs |

63 | can you explain what means | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 145195
Greetings! I see that you have been registered with the Forum for several years and yet you haven't told us anything about yourself! How about doing so under Resources on the left column (see Update user info)? I would direct you to the notes already written on these verses. Re-post if you need some additional clarification or have other questions. What I would wonder is can one without the Spirit testify of Jesus? What do you think? Blessings, mommapbs PS: The disciples had been with Jesus from the beginning of His earthly ministry. Who has been with Him from the beginning? |

64 | How's praying in the Holy Spirit tongues | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 148490
Searcher - this question has been up for a while . . . Susan has not responded; I agree with your conclusion - the Spirit speaks, not the believer here. I see Eph 6:18 and Jude 1:20 as faith expressions of the reality of Romans 8:26. The Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. What a comfort that is - to be intimately connected with the Trinity, knowing that our struggles not only go unnoticed, but are brought before the Throne of the King. Now what kind of language does the Spirit use? Groanings, too deep for words - SO might this also be understood as an "unknown tongue"? Who is doing the speaking? As the Spirit intercedes, this "unknown tongue" does indeed edify the individual as we learn to trust in this reality that takes place in our lives. I recognize that most probably your discussion was the believer's use of tongues in uttered speech - yet the inference of Romans 8:26 is that the "tongue" of the Spirit is too deep for words (therefore how is that we should utter any?) Therefore when we pray in the Spirit, might it be a yielding of our burdens and cares to Him, who knows our thoughts and our needs before we do? (Cease striving and KNOW that I am God - Ps 46:10 - comes to mind here.)I only offer this as a suggestion to consider that might diffuse some of the agnst we experience in this sensitive area of our various traditions. mommapbs |

65 | New prophecies in the New Testament? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 22558
Without doing any research, my initial reaction to your question is: in general, the Old and New Testament address prophecy in the same sense. There may be elaborations on the prophecy but just because God's Word is divided into Old and New doesn't mean that there are necessarily and new prophecies. Isn't it wonderful to live in an age where we can see prophecy fulfilled? It is such an encouragement to know that what WAS written in the past serves to guide us in what WILL be!
66 | Was Jesus a homeowner? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 22561
No, on earth Jesus did not own a home. Matthew 8:20 - Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." Recall that the devil tempted Jesus in this manner - offering Him the entire world,in exchange for His worship! This was entirely within his right to offer the Lord, because until the return of Christ, the earth is ruled by the "prince of this world." Since Jesus real home was in Heaven, the earth held no attraction for Him. This is an intriguing question. Would you build a mansion in a landfill when you had a home that was beyond compare elsewhere? The only attraction on this earth for the Lord was its inhabitants - US! See John 14:1-6. Thank you Lord for leaving your Heavenly home and coming to rescue us from this cesspool! |

67 | Who is Israel? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 30531
Greetings Veronica! Israel refers to God's chosen people as a nation. Although once again a nation-state, Israel encompasses all descendents of Jacob as a boundariless "nation." Abraham was called the father of many nations. The Israelites were one of those nations. It was through Israel's bloodline that God chose to reveal Himself. What a blessing! The first Christians were Jews. Israelites can become Christians, but Gentiles cannot become Israelites! But thanks be to God that through faith in Jesus, we can all be "adopted" as God's children! There are promises in God's Word for everyone. Some, however, are specifically for the House of Israel. There are also promises for all believers and then there are even promises for unbelievers! God has much in store in the days ahead for the House of Israel - keep watching! |

69 | after the rapture does the holy spirit | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 32123
Greetings Ms.Linda! The Holy Spirit is the desposit that guarantees the believer eternal life; the Holy Spirit is the means by which individuals are drawn to the Savior. The Holy Spirit is the power that enables the believer, convicts of sin, guides, comforts, etc. Ephesians 4:30 tells us that believers are "sealed" unto redemption. In Revelation 7, we read about 144,000 Jews also being "sealed." These will be the witnesses of the tribulation period. As a result of their testimony, many will turn to the Lord during this great time of jugdement upon the earth yet most will die a martyr's death. If these things are to occur, how could the Holy Spirit NOT be present? The "rapture" of the church signifies the end of the "age of Grace," not the end of the work of the Holy Spirit on earth. Blessings and Romans 8:35-39! Mommapbs |

70 | What will it be like in heaven? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 34841
Greeting Shel! I think we'd all like to "catch a glimpse!" You can do a "search" on the word heaven in the Bible and on this Forum but frankly, I think that God is so excited about surprising us that He keeps lots of Heaven's secrets to Himself! (Dt. 29:29) "THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM." 1 Cor 2:9 For me, it's enough to know that Jesus is preparing a place for me there, so I can be with HIM forever - now THAT's Heaven! Blessings! Mommapbs |

72 | Help. Someone's testamony has me upset | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 45436
Greetings Chynna! I was interested in your post as your reaction was similar to mine when I encountered God in an unexpected and inexplicable manner. Who are we to limit how God can interact with us? God is SUPERNATURAL; He is Spirit - He even tells us in His Word that His ways are not our ways - so should we really be so surprised when He acts "outside of the box" we have created for Him? We are cautioned to "test the spirits" so that we KNOW if this is of God. 1 John 4:1-6: "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood." Trust God to be God; doubt your doubts. Blessings to you as you seek to know Him more! Mommapbs |

75 | trapped in marriage | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 49784
"Now I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing to you a new commandment, but the one which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another." 2 John 1:5 Greetings again humbled2serve! Thank you for your elaboration and confession of your situation. I can fully appreciate where you are for I was in a similar place MANY years ago - yet I remember it as if it was yesterday . . . It was a beautiful fall day, I was surrounded by three loving children in a comfortable home and yet I was so unhappy - Although I could conjure up reasons for not loving my husband, I knew that this was NOT God's way. I remember sitting in our dining room, looking out the window and crying to God, "I don't love him, I want out of this marriage! But God, I want to obey You most of all. So, dear Heavenly Father, I will CHOOSE to love this man You have given to me because YOU have said,'Love one another.' I will do this in obedience and out of my love for You alone." I literally had CHOSEN to love my husband "in the Lord." (THY will not my will!) And then I got bolder and asked, "Lord, I have chosen to love him, no matter what, but could you please restore my FEELINGS of love for him?" And over the course of time, He did! My feelings returned for my husband and although there are plenty of storms in our marriage, God has honored my obedience and I have never lost my love for this man since that day. May this be a source of encouragement to you to CHOOSE to obey God, rather than follow your heart. Leave the results of your obedience up to Him. Only He is trustworthy to right every wrong and restore a God-honoring love to your relationship. Blessings from my heart to yours, Mommapbs |

76 | trapped in marriage | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 49793
humbled2serve - this is a post from Hank which I believe is intended to you. I have been following the thread and this post was misdirected. Mommapbs Hank writes: Love is not an option for Christians. It is a divine command. As for marriage, Paul commanded husbands to love their wives (Eph.5:25), and wives to submit to their husbands, as to the Lord (Eph.5:22). The command to love applies to both genders, inside and outside of marriage. The Lord never commands that which we, with His assistance, cannot do. Pray and ask the Lord to help you love your husband. The kind of love that keeps a marriage alive and well is far more enduring than romantic love or sexual attraction. I know whereof I speak, having been married to one woman for more than 42 years. --Hank |

78 | Spontaneous Human Combustion? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 50424
This is a BIBLE study forum. God's Word is silent on Spontaneous Human Combustion. That is of course if you don't include references from The Revelation to the future judgment of God against the sin of mankind - but that would not be spontaneous would it? For we have had plenty of time to recognize our sinful condition and receive God's rememdy - Jesus, our ONLY "fire escape"! |

79 | Mark 16:16 what does it say? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 50713
Grace and Truth - Let's not take anything out of our Bibles, but let's read MORE of what God has to say so that HE will reveal HIS truth to us, not what WE want it to be. "And He told them, 'Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere.' Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But if anyone refused to believe will be condemned.'" Mark 16:15-16 NOTICE: there is NO mention of those who refuse to be baptized as being condemned! Let's not leave out the following verses: "These signs will accompany those who BELIEVE (emphasis mine): they will cast out demons in My name;, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won't hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick an heal them." Mark 16:17-18 (NLT) AND . . . "the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked with them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs." Mark 16:20 (NLT) Notice that this passage says they PREACHED; it doesn't say they BAPTIZED - so what might we conclude is necessary? ONLY BELIEF! (Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the WORD OF GOD!) So, Grace and Truth, if these signs accompany those who believe and are baptized, how do we account for the Gentiles that Peter preached to who recieved the Holy Spirit upon their BELIEF and spoke in tongues BEFORE THEY WERE BAPTIZED with water?? See Acts 10: 44-48. "Peter asked, 'Can anyone object to their (the Gentiles) being baptized, NOW that they have recieved the Holy Spirit just as we did?'" Acts 10:47. (NLT) |

80 | Passover Prepartion and Armour of God | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 50745
Greetings Armour bearer! Actually, I see a contrast. In Exodus we see: "Now you shall eat it in this manner: with YOUR loins girded, YOUR sandals on your feet, and YOUR staff in your hand; . . ." (Emphasis mine) And in Ephesians we are told to: "be strong IN THE LORD and in the strength of HIS might. Put on the full armor OF GOD" (Emphasis mine) The Israelites were preparing to flee their enemies; Christians, prepared with the armor of God STAND FIRM against them! Blessings, Mommapbs |
