Greetings FytRobert! It is good to hear from you again. EdB gave you some solid advice. I would like to add my two cents worth though. Prior to any decision, prayer (and much prayer, I think) is in order! "The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much." 24 | Does Satan know my thoughts? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 108609
Searcher offered these Scriptures in an earlier discussion (see post #68) ... Psa 139:2, Jer 12:3, Matt 9:4, Luke 9:47 ... God knows our thoughts ... Satan cannot. Mommapbs writes: I have heard it said that when we are aware of Satan's attempts to gain our attention, we must AUDIBLY rebuke him, just as Jesus did in Mt 16:23. |

25 | Genesis 10:5 and 11:1? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 108657
Greetings! Have you ever noticed that by listening to their speech, you can determine a person's origin? Folks from Brooklyn sound much different from those who hail from New Orleans. Those from "down under" sound different from those "across the pond" or even our friends "north of the border." And let's not forget those who speak English as a second language. We are all speaking the same language are we not? But the way our "tongues" are trained to pronounce words may affect they way those words "sound"to others. Basically, the words (language) are the same, but the pronounciations differ. I suspect that this is what the Bible is addressing here. Does this make sense to you? Blessisngs, mommapbs |

26 | Citron Wood Rev. 18:12 | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 108684
Greetings Vern! A "Google" web search yielded this information which I have copied for you here: The identity of the "citron wood" (NIV), translated "thyine wood" in other translations from the Greek thuinos. Thyine wood is the most obscure timber in the New Testament and its true identity is not known. It has been suggested that it might be the wood of an evergreen found in the Mahgreb, Tetriclinus articulata (Cupressaceae), a relative of the eastern white cedar, Thuja occidentalis. The wood of Tetraclinus is fragrant and the resin has been used to make a varnish. Some images of T. articulata can be seen at http://www.dipbot.unict.it/fito_new/territori/distrmelitense/tetraclinis_articulata.html The following from Greek scholar Eleanor Irwin (personal communication) is helpful. Thyine (GK. thyinos) is an adjective from thyon, the name of a tree. Theophrastus says that it is a hard wood tree like the wild cypress and was known for lasting a long time. It is native to Cyrene in North Africa and the area near the temple of Zeus Ammon, a famous oracle in North Africa. It had been used for roofing (like cedar shakes?). The way Theophrastus mentions this indicates that this was no longer the case. The wood was either too scarce or too expensive - or perhaps both. It was used for making valuable articles. It did not take as high a polish as cypress. The Loeb edition of Theophrastus has a list of Greek plants and their scientific equivalents done by Sir William Thiselton-Dyer who was the director of Kew Gardens in London at the beginning of this century. (He was not always right, even so). He says the thyon tree is Callitris quatravalvis. The name of the tree "thyon" "thyinos" suggests that it was scented. From Revelation, it probably wasn't native to Israel and the use of "all" (pan thyinon) may indicate that it meant scented wood in general and not a specific tree. I noticed that various versions translate "all kinds of scented wood." I hope this helps. mommapbs |

34 | Why are there so many books in the Bible | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 109651

35 | What's your surname? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 109652
Greetings Earnest. When a question is posted on the Forum, the replies are read by everyone who visits the homepage. 2 Tim 2:15 reminds us to accurately handle the Word of Truth. How do you think your "creative answers" do this? Has the original question been satisfactorily answered? Some folks come looking for an "apologetic" that they can use to answer those who question the authority of God's Word et al. Have we let them down? mommapbs |

36 | My questions are needed as I am leading | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 109653
Greetings rboles0122 - Your opening question was incomplete. Do I understand that you need these questions answered because you are LEADING a Bible Study? This may sound harsh, but I must ask, if you don't know the answers to these questions, how can you lead anyone else to the Truth? You are no more than a blind guide. I am copying Hank's response to a reply you received: Angelpenned: "Salvation comes from believing in Jesus Christ," -- that would have been an excellent place to stop, without adding the phrase "securing your eternal destination through water baptism." The Bible says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (unique, only one of His kind), that whoever BELIEVES in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." [John 3:16]. The Bible says, "For by grace you have been saved through FAITH, and that (salvation) not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." [Ephesians 2:8,9]. ..... Man asks, "What must I do to be saved?" [Acts 16:30] ... The Bible answers, "BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved...[Acts 16:31] --Hank Understand that on this Forum, you will receive MANY different responses. Not all of them are reflective of God's Word. I encourage you to be like the Bereans, "they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so." Act 17:11 Please, before you teach others, study God's Word for yourself first. Know WHAT and WHY you believe, in this way you will be able to point others to the Truth too. "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." 2 Tim 3:16-17 May God bless and prepare you for His purposes as you open and study His Word. mommapbs |

37 | Please indicate if sequence is correct | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 110119
Greetings Emmy and welcome to the Forum. When you post a question, what is the purpose, to find an answer or to dialog? If it is the former, search the archives first. Use the QUick Search field or look at the Scripture reference and see if there is a GREEN N next to the verse. If so, others have posted something on this - read it. If you want dialog, you can express your position and ask for comments. Lastly, you can post a note that is attached to a Scripture. The question(s) you have posted are LONG and will take a great deal of time to answer completely. It would be better to just break things like this down into managable pieces so that we don't get overwhelmed. End time events and chronology is a subject that might prompt more division than unity, so I caution you in advance as this is a diverse group and not everyone subscribes to the same end-time theology. 38 | Fish that live in the Death Sea. | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 110434
Greetings and welcome to the Forum. In the Bible, this sea is called the "Salt Sea" - you can input salt sea into the "Get Bible Text" field and see the references. Using a search engine you can find other information about this body of water. Its salinity is so high that no fish can live in it. They enter the sea from rivers and die in the shoals. I liked the references on www.keyway.ca - use their site search and input salt sea. Blessings, mommapbs |

40 | where in bible do angels cry | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 112523
Greetings! I couldn't find an instance where angels are recorded as "crying," but their emotions are recorded: See Zec 1:12-13; Rev 12:12 - those who dwell in heaven REJOICE and Satan is filled with wrath (he is angry); 1 Peter 1:12 also reveals the emotion associated with desire (longing). Something else to consider, although I don't see an instance of angels crying, God did! (John 11:35) Lastly, the Lord tells us that in heaven we will be like the angels (Mt 22:30)- not in substance but is character - they are continually before the throne worshipping and praising God and attentive to His bidding. Why might this be? Is it not because they absolutely KNOW God as He IS; they KNOW He IS sovereign and nothing that HE purposes can be thwarted! However in contrast, we still possess that sin-nature which keeps us from fully seeing God as He IS! (And responding as the angels do!) BUT! We are promised that God will wipe away our tears - tears that cloud our vision, tears of sadness over sin. (Rev 7:17; 21:4)Oh wht a Day of rejoicing that will be! Blessings IN Christ! mommapbs |
