David gave you a great HONEST answer! I would like to add James 5:16-20 for your consideration. In the wonderful book, "Experiencing God," Henry Blackaby reminds us that God speaks to us through His Word, through the Holy Spirit, through prayer, through circumstances and through the counsel of other believers. When these 5 line up or are in agreement, you will have the confimation that you are seeking. I pray that you will continue to grow in Him in accordance with His Word. Please re-read Cyclist's post; it is sound counsel! Blessings, mommapbs |

109 | Is the context the Pharisee-Matt 15:13 | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 76214
Greetings Searcher - this verse is posted right at my terminal. It is a constant reminder to me that in all that I do, I must seek the will of God first. I believe that in this verse Jesus was using the Pharisees as illustration of those who placed themselves in a postion of authority when in fact they had none (see also Mt 23:2). Jesus accuses them of disobedience because they have allowed "tradition" or the understanding of man to usurp the authority of God (Mt 15:3). Might we be guilty of the same at times? When we sow our PLANS(plants) into the garden of life that we have been given, what will we reap if they are not from God? Just some thoughts. . . I hope this verse will be significant for you too! Blessings, mommapbs As a contrast check out: Ps 1:3; Ps 92:13-15; Is 60:21 and Is 61:3 |

113 | Why are movies like Harry Potter bad? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 76851
The Horror of Harry Potter Most people will agree that there opposing forces in the world. Because there is an ongoing struggle between good and evil, we are always confronted with the opportunity to choose between the two. Regardless of our decision, we inherently know the difference between right and wrong. The position or direction we take depends upon our foundation of values; our values determine the way we make choices and perceive the world. Most value formation takes place in childhood, so it imperative that the source of these values be examined. What source will we use to determine what is "good?" The Judeo-Christian model ascribes goodness to God alone. By using God’s Word as THE absolute standard, we have the ability to discern what is "good" or God - honoring. "Do good to your servant according to your word, O LORD. Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I believe in your commands. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word. You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees." Psalm 119:65-68. 1) The Mosaic Law strictly forbids divination (consulting mediums or spirits, casting spells, sorcery, and witchcraft). "Let no one be found among you who . . .practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, casts spells, or who is a medium or a spiritist or who consults the dead." Deuteronomy 18:9-13 2) Using the Ten Commandments alone, any of these practices violates the first commandment: "You shall have no other gods before me." (Exodus 20:3). Whenever we give authority to anything or anyone in place of God, it is idolatry. 3) "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God . . ." (Exodus 20: 4-5). * * * God’s decree is: "Seek good and not evil." (Amos 5:14) In our quest for "good" we must be careful. For example, the Harry Potter books use occult resources to overcome the "evil" circumstances confronting the main character. Although one cannot ascribe "goodness" to the abuses Harry experiences – for they are indeed evil - Harry’s response (the use of sorcery) is not "good" either! Our society has become complacent; our moral code has relaxed. We no longer evaluate right and wrong as absolutes; today we are more apt to use situational ethics ("the ends justify the means"). When we are confronted with decision-making situations, our choices are no longer “black and white” but rather, shades of gray! God warns us not to abandon HIS standard of what is good or right. The means (sorcery, casting spells, etc) that Harry uses in these stories is in conflict with God's standard. "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness . . ." (Isaiah 5:20) What are we teaching children through these stories? God’s word tells us that there is indeed a spirit being who embodies evil; he has many names: the devil, Satan, Lucifer, the father of lies, etc. “How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn!" Isaiah 14:12 Just as the Serpent was subtle in his deception with Eve in the garden, our enemy, the devil masquerades as an "angel of light" today, misleading many in their search for what is good! A friend of mine gave me a wonderful illustration of how the devil works to deceive us: Suppose you wanted to destroy a building but it is full of people. Certainly you couldn’t come with a wrecking ball that would be too obvious! Since time is of no consequence to the devil's plans, he can undermine the foundation of the building by removing bricks one by one. Using this strategy, the people living in the building will go about their lives oblivious to the absence of a brick or two. Over time, they will not even notice the presence of the "destroyer" as he systematically chips away at the structure’s foundation. But in the end, the objective will be achieved just as if a wrecking ball was used - the building will collapse! Part II to follow |

114 | Why are movies like Harry Potter bad? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 76853
Part II The influence of the Harry Potter books is just like one of these absent bricks. Without God’s standards, it is very easy to fall into a trap of "good appearances." God tells us to overcome evil with good; and according to God’s standards, wizardry is not "good!" according to God! As God given "absolutes" are in the process of being removed from our society (in the name of "separation of church and state"), the empty spaces are replaced with the shifting sands of tolerance and humanism. We are being hurled closer to an age where "everyone does what is right in his or her own eyes." “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight.” Isaiah 5:21 Could there be order in this kind of chaos? God is not the author of confusion, but someone is! Harry Potter aside, in choices and questions set before us, and for our children, to whom shall we go for guidance? How will we determine what is "good?" "God has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8 Also, please use the link to Christiansinterative.com at the top of this page and see the article "Twelve Reasons No To See Harry Potter Movies." I hope this helps you sort things out! FytRobert: Because God is eternal, we cannot adequately grasp what has always been and will be. But suffice it to say that before the beginning, God-the Trinity was in perfect communion. The Bible is silent about the point in the continuum of eternity past that God created the angelic order, yet I believe that these beings preceded mankind and the physical universe. Indeed, the Creation is just part of a much larger story, one that has been written to put an end to evil for all eternity! Very simplistically, eternity past is Act 1; the creation of the angelic order is Act 2; the creation of man takes place in Act 3; and Act 4 is eternity yet to be. Right now, we are moving very close to the "Last Scene in Act 3- the Judgment of God!" John Eldredge, a counselor and author, presents the message of the gospel of the kingdom as a great adventure. It is indeed the "greatest (love) story ever told." In every story, there is a beginning and an ending; in between, we meet the cast of characters: a hero, a villain, and of course the damsel in distress. God, the Author, was already there at the beginning; creation was not. God is the good King. Yet what was created questioned His goodness and therefore His rule. Satan is the villain; he is the being who brought sin into God's perfect Universe by his rebellion. Evil cannot co-exist with God, so a plan for the restoration of God's Kingdom continues to unfold with the Creation and the anticipated Fall of man. Jesus is the hero, who leaves His home in Heaven to enter our world, on a Divine mission: to rescue the beautiful maiden. Mankind is that damsel in distress! And whether we recognize it or not, we are the ones who need to be saved. We do not need to be saved from the villain, for he has already been defeated, but rather, we need to be saved from the wrath of God against sin. All have sinned . . . the penalty for sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 3:23,Romans 6:23 Today we are living our individual "little stories" within the pages of what John Eldredge calls "The Sacred Romance." This "romance" is the ongoing pursuit and wooing of the damsel's heart by the Hero. “The love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”Romans 5:5,6,8 Act 3, the one in which humanity is cast, is drawing to a conclusion. The Old Testament prophets as well as Jesus gave us "cues" (clues and signs!) to keep us following the story line of this great adventure He has written. The Last Act - the Judgment of God - will come and the story of those who have chosen to be written out of the script will end. But just as God was there in eternity before the beginning of time, God will usher in eternity for the future . . . God declares that He will make all things new, not all new things! (Rev. 21:5) In this great restoration, there will be a new stage and a perfect script for His Beloved; indeed they will “live happily ever after!” “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 I know that there are those on the Forum who will reject my interpretation of theology, but this presentation made sense to me! It enables me to understand how mankind "fits" into the BIG picture that God has prepared for those who love Him! 1 Cor 2:9 mommapbs |

118 | When did God change "mode" of baptism? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 77187
Taleb - Without wanting to enter into the fracas about baptism I would like some clarification from you. It is my understanding that baptism was used in the Old Testament when one outside of Israel wanted to follow Jehovah; is this correct? If so, did the physical action of baptism make one an Israelite? In other words, if you took a white cloth and dipped it in red dye, what kind of cloth is it white or red? What was the purpose of baptism - has it changed? Thanks for considering my questions. mommapbs |

119 | Does any body knows the 12 names of God | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 77634
Greetings God His Help. Where does the number 12 come from? There are many more names for God than 12! God's name(s) reveal His nature and relationship to us. God's response to Moses query about His name was, "IAM WHO IAM." See Ex 3:13-15. This has been expressed to me to understand that God IS Whoever I need Him to be (!) and HE knows my needs! SO While He is ALL at once, I can only understand His nature as He reveals Himself to me personally, moment to moment. May it be likewise for you! Jehovah, Jesus, Savior, Redeemer, Lord, Good Shepherd, Almighty God, Wonderful Counsellor, Prince of Peace, Comfortor, Provider, Healer, Creator, Judge, Defender, Strong Tower, Word, Ruler, Lover, Friend, King, Alpha, Omega, etc, etc! As a side note, it is my understanding that one of the ways a follower of Islam is guaranteed entrance into heaven is to be able to recite all the names of allah. Since the exact number is unknown, a muslim can never be sure that he has named them all! What a poor and futile waste of effort! On the other hand, Islam teaches that one who dies in "jihad" can be "assured" of heaven -imagine the shock that awaits them in eternity! Our God does not require His followers to die for Him; He died for us! Believers in Jesus are not required to DO any work to gain our salvation from His wrath. He has done it all for us! Eph 2:8-10. mommapbs |
