Since the Holy Spirit is the deposit that guarantees our redemption (2 Cor 1:22) and obviously, from the conversion of the Gentiles in the passage of Acts 10:34-48, God credited the righteousness of Christ PRIOR to baptism here! So when did God change the order of His process? |

New Creature! Input Rev 2:4 in the questions/notes filed and click on "go" you will see some good observations about this verse. ( A few months ago, I submitted a rather controversial suggestion about this passage so I hesitate to expound upon it again.) Remember it is God who looks upon the heart; He sees the motives that prompt us to respond the way we do. If Jesus is criticizing the church in this manner, He obviously can see something that we are oblivious to and we need to be "called" on it! This is a sobering verse and should prompt each of us to serious introspection. Blessings, Mommapbs |

84 | Chapter and verse question STILL! | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 50907
Matthew 11:3 - John the Baptist asked if Jesus was the Messiah. Recall when Jesus calmed the storm his disciples wondered, "Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?" Luke 8:25 Jesus asked His disciples who men said He was and when He asked them who they thought He was, Peter was the disciple who declared, "You are the Christ." See Matthew 16:13-20 Jesus knew who he was even at an early age when his parents found him in the temple! Luke 2:49 Jesus said, "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me." John 6:38 During His adult ministry Jesus said: "All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." matthew 11:27 Jesus' message was "Repent, for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand!" Matthew 4:17 God's will is to restore the Kingdom - to reconcile sinful man and bring him once again into a loving, intimate relationship with his Creator. John14:6 - Jesus is the Way. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." John 14:6 Hope these verses help! Blessings, Mommapbs |

86 | thou hast left thy first love | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 50927
Greetings New Creature: Here is post and reply from 8/01 Searcher writes: Question: Who was their first love? If it is Christ, how could all they did (vv 2-3) caused to leave their first love? What things were they doing at first (vs 5) that did cause to leave their first love? Can we work hard for Him, yet not love Him? How can we return to our first love? Answer: Hi Steve, I've thought about this too a little bit. I'm not sure I have much of an answer, but those verses remind me of a person that begins with a fire for the Lord that is so great they desire to do everything and anything He leads them to do just because they love Him so much -- and then later that same person when the fire is diminished, doing the good works, but the fire is gone. Or another way of saying it maybe, is that they are going through the motions, but there is not a heart for the Lord there -- only works. Could that be what it's talking about? You said: Can we work hard for Him, yet not love Him? I'm going to rephrase that, in a way that makes the answer simple to me. Can we work hard for anyone (doing the best we can do), yet not love that other person? Is the hard work always the result of a commitment to someone else, or is it sometimes self-serving. Let's face it, it does make us feel good to do good things. |

Greetings Grace and Truth. Tim Moran gave you excellent answers and I agree completely with him. I find it interesting that your screen name is Grace and Truth. Much of what you are concerned about smacks of legalism - the law(Truth) without Grace. You contend that one cannot be saved apart from water baptism. This is a "works based" approach which Jesus came to do away with! Why would anyone want to impose the "law" when the gift of salvation has been freely offered by GRACE to those who simple believe? "For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ." John 1:17 The ORDER here is very important; so is the order of BELIEVE and be BAPTIZED. I know many people who are "completely saved" by their faith in Jesus Christ who have yet to enter the waters of baptism for one reason or another. I KNOW that I will see them in heaven whether or not they have been immersed before their physical death or the Rapture of the church. Maybe God will let them wear a sign saying "unbaptized believers" so you will recognize them too!Truly I empathize with your passion for what you believe, but please don't impose your rules upon those who do not subscribe to this "doctrine!" I'm glad that God is the Judge! I'll continue to place my confidence in HIS GRACE and TRUTH, not the brand that you are peddling! |

I'm also interested in hearing your repsonse to Tim's question: "Are you going to attempt to explain how those in Acts 10 received the gift of the Holy Spirit (per Acts 2:38) before they were baptized?" |

89 | Does the Bible say why? God made man? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 51291
Greetings al k. I haven't been able to find "chapter and verse" but we can certainly understand that God desires to have a relationship with us from Scripture! In Genesis 1:27 we learn that man was created in the image of God. We know that God has a "triune" nature. Consider what the Trinity suggests: RELATIONSHIP - Sharing a mutual desire for fellowship unified by love. This is the kind of intimate relationship that God DESIRED when He created mankind. Adam and Eve enjoyed a perfect love relationship with God until, by their choice, they sought their own desire instead of God's. We know what happened next! (Adam and Eve)They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?" Gen 3:8-9 Note especially, that GOD SEEKS THEM! He is still seeking to restore that broken fellowsip with us today! Genesis 6 describes what God desires in His relationship with man. Noah was singled out from among the people of the earth by God and declared righteous (Gen 6:9). We learn that Noah "walked with God." This suggests not only fellowship but worship as well. Worship is the outward expression of our heart's devotion. Is it any wonder then that God looks upon the heart? . . .for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) . . .For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) . . . But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) . . .Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.(Romans 8:1) Ephesians 2:10 gives an excellent answer for the purpose of the believer. "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." I hope this helps! Blessings, Mommapbs PS:The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil. Ecc 12:13-14 |

90 | What is the full meaning of Good Works | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 51675
Greeting Learn, welcom to the Forum. You asked about good works. Many are certainly concerned about living good lives, etc. but before our "works" have any significance to our eternal destiny, we MUST have FATIH FIRST! Our good works do not earn favor with God until AFTER we have been saved by His Grace (Eph 2:8-9, Titus 3:5) What does "good" mean? "And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. Luke 18:19 From this verse, we could conclude that for a "work" to be described as truly "good" - God MUST be involved. "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." Ephesians 2:10 From this verse, we see that God IS involved in every "good work"! Upon our confession of faith in Jesus Christ as our personal Savior from the penalty of sin, God changes us. We become a new creation in Christ and are given the Holy Spirit as "proof" that we belong to God's family. The Holy Spirit indwells the believer and through His power and influence, HE enables the believer TO DO GOOD WORKS. (These are things that God Himself has prepared just for us! What a blessing is ours when we chose to obey Him and follow the path He has set before us!) In the following verse, Paul instructs BELIEVERS through the teaching he is giving Timothy: "Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share," 1 Timothy 6:18 WHY GOOD WORKS? Matthew 5:18 is the answer. "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 God re-creates us to restore that love relationship that was lost because of sin, AND He enables us to bring Him glory by giving us not ony the "good work" to do, but also the power(the Holy Spirit) to do so! This is a picture of a faith that is alive in Jesus Christ! (Faith without works is dead James 2:17)But always remember, it is FAITH that brings the salvation of GOd, not "good works". (See also 1 Cor. 3:9-15) God examines the motives behind everything we do. We are either doing to please Him or to please ourself. It is important to be aware of the difference! I hope these Scriptures are an encouragement to you today! Blessings, Mommapbs |

Greetings! I thought you'd enjoy this piece I wrote a few years ago on this very topic! God Speaks There is a wonderful man of God at our church who works in the children’s ministry as an administrative assistant. He has quite a severe speech impediment. My 12-year-old son happened to be with me one Sunday morning when I was having a conversation with this man. Afterward, my son asked, “Mom, how can you understand him? I could only understand one word!” I thought about this for a moment and then I realized that there was a great lesson to be learned from this “teachable moment.” I replied, “Honey, I’ve worked with him for many years and my ears are accustomed to his manner of speaking, and his speech. I understand him because I listen and want to hear what he says. It has taken time and patience, but I had no problems comprehending what he was saying today.” I thought that this was a good analogy for us to apply to understanding God; to hearing His voice and recognizing His presence with us! God speaks in many different ways. How do we recognize His voice above the din of our daily existence? First, there must be desire. (When you seek me, you will find me!) Secondly, we must spend time in His Word and lastly, we must listen. His voice can be heard; do you hear Him? Often we are so “busy” with trivial pursuits that we forget that God is interested in all aspects of our lives. Those things that we relegate to the “insignificant” category are important to God. Seeing God at work in the little things of our lives reaps great benefits to our faith. May God bless you as you train your ear to hear His voice! Mommapbs |

Greetings JA03! From one who is most often in the position of "offending," I'd like to offer a response. Your question is pretty vague, but I suspect that you are questioning the way that we are to be reconciled to one another when a breach of trust has been made. It does not matter who made the rules, but if an offense has occurred, then it is up to the offender to be reconciled to the one offended. (Matthew 5:23-24)Sometimes, this is clear cut and pretty easy to see but . . . See Matthew 18:15-22- At times, the offender may not even know that he/she has offended someone else. In this case, the offended person has the reponsibility to make the offense known to the offender, not for humiliation or shame, but in order to bring about a reconciliation or restoration of the relationship. This of course necessitates the offer of forgiveness from the offended. Generally, when one becomes aware of an offense, the response is one of remorse and repentance. However, even if the one who offends does not apologize, it is always right to forgive. When we don't forgive as God in Christ forgave us, we offend HIM!(Hebrews 12:14-15; Eph 4:26-27; Eph 4:32) I hope this helps. Blessings, mommapbs |

100 | WHAT IS MEANT BY ETERNAL SIGNICANCE OF L | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 72580
This passage reveal three kinds of "lostness." The first two lost items are sought for but the last, the son who deliberately chose to go his own way was left on his own. I suspect that we should evaluate the condtion of those around us whom are lost from the Lord. Are they a sheep, a coin or a prodigal? This passage gives us direction of how we should respond. The eternal significance to these that are lost is that unless they are found or chose to return from their lost condition, they remain lost. What strikes me is the rejoicing that ensued with each one's return -the sheep to the shepherd, the coin to the woman and the son to the father. Do we rejoice with the same enthusiasm when those we know find the Savior? mommapbs |
