361 | Is "to salt" to mean "to destroy?" | Mark 9:49 | lionheart | 164771
MJH, You pose an interesting question. Vs 49 refers to being salted with fire,Vs 50 may seem somewhat of a delima, check out Matt 5:13 and folowing verses if I'm looking at this correctly this should shed light on Mk 9:50. Back in Jesus day salt was a valuable comodity. It remained valuable as long as it retained it's saltyness other wise it was thrown out and trampled under foot, it was not an unheard of practice for invading armies or in the case of the retreating army to take this salt which was no longer of any use and put it in the fields rendering them useless for any kind agricultural production. Salt is a seasoning and a preservitive. Jesus tells us salt is good, now going back to Mk 9:49 Could the usage of salt and fire be a reference to fire being the trying or cleansing agent here? I hope I havent butcherd this too badly. In Christ, lionheart |

362 | what does it mean to be an angel of god? | 2 Tim 2:15 | lionheart | 164759
kisschloekiss, Greetings and welcome to the forum. The first question I would have for you is what scriptural basis did this person give in support of what they told you? Does it line up with Gods Word, what does the bible say about what this person was telling you? How do you know for sure that this prophetic word is from God? The bible Gods Word must be the basis for evrything we know and believe. (2 Timothy 2:15) Feelings are never any gaurantee for truth, The only standard for truth we have is God and His Word, without that there are no gaurantee's. If this person has offered no biblical basis I would ask,Check out 1 John 3:1,2 I think it will give you some food for thought. In Christ, lionheart |

Good day brother, I read the post you were refering to and the above mentioned passage of scripture (1 Sam 15:1-4). I think we both know God never contradicts Himself. What we are looking at here is Gods execution of judgement. The judgement here in this case was death. What is being stated here is judgement and not murder. In Christ, lionheart |

367 | Seems very unfair that I can not enjoy | Prov 11:14 | lionheart | 164185
Evangelistit, My heart go'es out to you as I am a single father who has raised two children. I may be wrong on this but the only scriptural justification for divorce is adultry. One thing I'll say is that your ex may have never been a christian to start with.God shows us alot of grace and mercy in lifes day to day situations. Are you going to church where God and His Word are Preached and honored. If not find a place that does.Get into Gods Word as much as you can, make it a daily priority, pray and seek out wise and godly council.I cant stress that enough, and above all trust God. You dont have to stand alone, make fellowship with believers a constant part of your life, there are no surviving lone Rangers out there today. I can think of a few of us here, myself included who will stand with you.God is not a hard case,it's his heart to bless us.He's not a harsh task master, but a loving father. Keep the faith we'll be swinging with you. In Christ, lionheart |

NightJay0044, Greetings and Gods best to you this day. A little encouragement for you here.Read Philippians chapter 4,James 1:1-6,2 Peter 1:1-11. God never promised us a life free of challenge, but he does tell us that our joy is not dependant on the circumstances. We can have joy no matter what the circumstances may dictate. 369 | Reading too much into C S Lewis ? | 2 Tim 2:15 | lionheart | 164116
justme, Goodmorning.I've read a lot of C.S. Lewis and J.R Tolkien as well.I believe both were men of faith and that was evidenced in there writtings,I have found them inspiring and uplifting. We cant know first hand why they wrote these writtings. But we can and do know why God gave us his Word.2 Timothy 3:16,17 and that is why Matthew 6:33 must be a priority in our life every single day. 2 Timothy 2:15 is so foundational. His Word is bedrock, this is where we make our stand. The one question we need to ask ourselves is how deep do our convictions run? I hope this helps. In Christ, lionheart |

370 | Is it lawful for women to be preachers? | 1 Cor 14:34 | lionheart | 163703
Jacquelinet, 1 Timothy 2:12- But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man,but to remain silent. A lot of people have used this passage of scripture to denigrate and mininimise the role of women in the church. This is to thier shame.I know a number of sisters in my church that serve major roles in the day to day, week to week functioning of the fellowship(church). One example- The lead Evangelists wife heads up the womens ministry. This is only a single example of the major contributions made by women in the church.Paul is very specific in Titus And 1 Timothy the qualifications and standards for those called to be overseers or church leaders. I hope this helps. In Christ, lionheart |

371 | What should I do? | James 1:26 | lionheart | 163693
Recamier, Goodmorning.I hope this day finds you encouraged and close to God. Proverbs 11:14-Where there is no guidance, the people fall, But in abunbance of counselors there is victory. You have recieved some very solid counsel from a mumber of people here on this forum,I want to encourage you take that counsel to heart. Godly counsel is not arbitrary. It is best heeded and acted upon. It doesnt look like you have the luxury of waiting much longer if at all to act on your situation. Read Proverbs 12:15 and ask yourself,Do I have a teachable heart? Trusting God is'nt necessarily going with the flow, oft times we will find ourselves cutting against the grain. Jesus did on many occations, but he never compromised on Gods Word. It's no different for us today. There will always be pressure for us to go along with the crowd. But as we make our stand with Him he will take us through every situation we encounter. Paul tells us in Romans 8:37 that we are more than coquerors through Him that loved us.Dear heart you are never alone,Our Lord walks with you along with a whole community of believers who will walk and stand with you.The first step can be the hardest but God will enable you to do it. Philippians 4:13-I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. I'm in your corner and I'll be praying for you. Again trust God you will not be disappointed. In Christ, lionheart |

373 | What should I do? | James 1:26 | lionheart | 163565
Recamier 1 Corinthians 11:1- Follow my example,as I follow the example of Christ. You say God is telling you to wait, what scriptural basis do you have to support this. Remember God never directs any one to do anything that will contradict His Word. 2 Timothy 2:15,3:16,17. Ephesians 6:10-18.Read these scriptures, take them to heart, they will be life savers for you.In knowing Gods Word you will know Him and you can and will know his will.God is not the author of confusion.God wants things to be clear for us,He doesnt want us ignorant. When we view things in the light of Gods Word then we see much more clearly, understanding is much simpler.Confusion reigns when we try and figure things out by our own knowledge and censibilities. Dear heart God will never leave you to swing in the wind.In Matthew 28:20 tells us That Jesus is always with us.God will not abandon us.We gotta walk out in faith,God has given us all the tools we need to this. Read Hebrews chaptter 11 it will encourage you. There must be some change with your whole situation, it's in your best interest and the interest of God and his Word in your life.Do Matthew 6:33 and see what happens. You will and are in my thoughts and prayers.Trust God you will not be disappointed. In Christ, lionheart |

374 | Do I need to leave the church? | James 1:26 | lionheart | 163511
Recamier, Greetings and welcome to the forum, boy oh boy there are so many issues raised here I scarcely know where to begin.I kind of get the impression that you are a new christian or very young in the faith. I guess the one question I would have right now would be as already been recomended is that you are praying and have you voiced your concerns to the minister and those concerned? God never created any lone rangers where His church is concerned. Fellowship is vital,it's important to our spiritual health.Dont be afraid to speak up,just do it with a godly heart and perspective, and if there is no answer or change forthcomming then as has already been advised you should consider and act on finding a fellowship that teaches, honors and glorifies God and His Word.Trust God to show you where to go He will get you there. In Him, lionheart |

375 | What does the word "these" reference? | 2 Pet 1:4 | lionheart | 163329
Dearest sister, Good hearing from you. This is one of the first passages of scripture I studied after I was saved. Go back to verse three of this passage and read through to verse 12. This will give you some insite to what "these" references to. Peter is telling us to cultivate our relationship with God. Remember how Paul tells us in Philippians 2:12 to work out our salvation (with trembling and fear). Here in 2 Peter 1:3-12 is telling us how. I hope I'm pointing you in the right direction,if not, tell me. In Christ, lionheart |

376 | Philippians4:4-9 don't get | Phil 4:13 | lionheart | 163327
Jesus Freak, It's not as complicated as may seem. It's fairly simple. Some times we need to take passeges of scripture and brake things into smaller pieces then it's alittle easier to understand and digest. Paul makes a couple of points here. One is we dont have to be circumstance controled, thats why Paul tells us to be anxious for nothing and then follows it up by telling us to go to God. The big thing Paul does here is to tell us where our hearts ought to be and that our focus should be on the things of God vice the things of this world. When our focus is on the things of God then we dont get overwhelmed by whats going on around us.Hope this helps. In Christ, lionheart |

377 | What are the names we should call upon? | Joel 2:32 | lionheart | 163315
Chris, You cover a lot of ground here.Look at 2 Timothy 3:16,Romans 15:4,2 Timothy 2:15,God has went to great lengths to lay out his plan for us and to keep it clear to those who are truly seeking him. Confusion reigns when we start trying to figure it out on our own instead of going to God and His Word and trusting Him to guide us and show us.In the Old Testement Gods Word is refered to as a lamp,a lamp provides light and when we have light we have the ability to see where we are at and the way God is directing us.We just gotta make sure we are walking with our eyes open.We gotta keep em open,it gets dark at times but the great thing about God and His Word is we dont have to stay in the dark. In Christ, lionheart |

378 | Giving money to building fund tithing? | Mal 3:10 | lionheart | 163228
pbp, Malachi 3:10- Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse,so that there may be food in My house, and test me now in this says the Lord of hosts,if I will not open for you the windows of heaven ,and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. When we give our tithe and I emphasize the word give here because thats wher our heart should be. So it's not amatter of giving to a fund or a cause because we are giving to God. we dont make our giving conditinal we just give and God will handle the rest. Check out Ecclesiastes 12:13 This sums up our whole responsibility to God. God loved us unconditionaly, should this not apply when it comes to our giving? In Christ, lionheart |
