382 | growing up in a religion | 2 Tim 2:15 | lionheart | 162490
iccnh919, Greetings and welcome to the forum. In answer to your question, absolutly.I heard someone comment a number of years ago thatone can go no further than what they have been taught. There is a lot of truth to that statement. I grew up in a baptist church as a child and there were a lot of things I had to unlearn and learn over when nine years ago I understood that I really had not asked Jesus to be my savior. You are more than welcome to read my profile, that will explain more to you about where I've been. But the great thing God has given us in this day and time is his written Word along with a lot of men and women of God who teach it quite well and quite acurately. So change is always possible,we dont have to stay ignorant or uninformed. God has provide people with everything they need to be in or get into a right relationship with him. You are right it can be hard but not impossible. In Christ, lionheart |

384 | Murder of the Innocents? | Genesis | lionheart | 162121
Rats Feet, Lets be clear about one thing here,God never told Abraham to kill his son. In Genesis 22:2 God is telling him to go to a place he would direct and offer up Issac as a burnt offering. In Genesis 22:7,8 when asked by Issac where the lamb for the sacrifice was Abrahams reply was that God would provide. We see that at what seamed like the last moment God did provide. Now this may be pure speculation on my part but I believe that Abraham believed God would raise Issac again if he actually did sacrifice him. In answer to the second part of your question, why do you think God would make that kind of comand? It wasnt because he hated these people, not at all. To allow these nations to continue in the wickedness they were practicing would have placed his people and ultimately future generations in jeopardy. So God is not condoning murder here but taking steps ensure his plans for you and me through all eternity. 385 | Is faith all it takes to enter heaven? | Bible general Archive 3 | lionheart | 161898
jedidiah, Welcome to the forum. Hebrews 11:6- And without faith it is impossible to please Him,for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek him. Faith is a starting point. Without faith nothing else is possible. Repentance, confession, salvation ect. There is little likelyhood that one will follow anyone or anything they dont have some modicome of faith in. Jesus tells that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed we can move mountains. When we have faith in God we take the reigns out of our hands and put them in the hands of God where they belong. Check out Hebrews 11 and Romans 10 they will give you a solid foundation and a better understanding regarding faith. Prayerfully this will help and encourage you. In Christ, lionheart |

386 | Love | 1 Cor 13:4 | lionheart | 161583
Goodmorning Brother, The greek word here for proud is Physioo- To puff up,inflate,to be proud. In this context Paul is telling us love is'nt a self focused thing. He tells us what love is not.Paul goes on at the end of the chapter that love is the greatest. There is no sin in lifting someone up as long as the focus remains on God. We see in the Old Testament where God says that David was a man after his own heart. In he Gospels he tells the disciples regarding Jesus- This is my Son in whom I am well pleased. 1 John chapter 4 is an outstanding scripture on the true heart of love. I hope this helps. In Christ, lionheart |

387 | dear friend | 2 Cor 5:20 | lionheart | 161424
devon, Greetings an God's best to you this day.In the strictest sence of biblical definition there in literal sence no Apostles in this present day. 2 Corinthians 5:20 does say that we are ambassadors for Christ. The verses you have refered to here are also good references to Gods calling peoples lives. Matt 28:18-20 we are all evangelists in the literal sense. Titus, and 1Timothy 3 provide good reference for those who feel God calling them into full time survice. But in a sense though we are all full time servants. God has given all of gifts, talents and resources by which we may serve and glorify God. We just need that we walk daily with a humble heart allowing God to lead us so that we may utilise those gifts and talents that God blesses us with. In Christ, lionheart |

388 | Verses that support military service? | Rom 13:4 | lionheart | 161348
Goodmorning Flick, Greetings and welcome to the forum. I was just reading Doc's posting to you and having spent sixteen yars in the navy I've heard arguments from both sides of the isle. One thing I want to encourage you with before I go any further and I do this with believer and non believer alike is that you give 2Peter 1:20,21 strong consideration as you research this issue yourself. When we do that and devote time to Gods Word Things become clearer than they otherwise would have. Now with all that in mind I'll tell you where I stand without being too one sided.I've had people tell me that you couldnt be a diciple of Jesus and be in the military. I've had more than my fair share of heated dicussions over this subject,I wish I knew then what I know now.The bible is loaded with accounts of men of God who were Warriors,David being a prime example.David is the only one in the bible that God refers to as a man after His own heart.David was a great and mighty man of God,yet he went into battle many times. There is no contradiction here. Cornelias was a Roman Centurion (Comander of 100's)yet it say's his prayers went up before God as a memorial.Acts tells us he was compassionate and giving. Now did he stop being a soldier after his conversion? I dont think so. At least there is no record that I can find that states otherwise. Doc's recomendation of Romans 13 is a good one.Having been on both sides of this issue I will close with this,no matter what sector of society be it civilian or military that we serve in lets insure that in what ever capacity we serve or work lets do it all to the glory of God. In Christ, lionheart PS. I've been on both sides of this issue myself. I hope this helps. |

389 | Is is a sin for a male to have long hair | 1 Cor 11:14 | lionheart | 161328
fellowlaborer, I wont be crude as I dont have any hair to get long.I went through the hole thing of having my hair long when I was younger. I think what Paul may have been dealing with here (this isnt etched in stone mind you) was that some of the things that would distinguish a man from a woman aside from the obvious were becomming less and less distinguishable. I think what he may be saying here is that when things ie. hair, get to a point where a man looks more like a woman than he does a man then there is a problem. If we look at this verse within the context of which Paul wrote it we can see that Paul went into detail about the things regarding men and women. We both know God is not in the habit of contradicting himself. We need when it comes to things like this to be able to look at them within the light of Romans chapter 14 and exercise godly judgement. I will just say this,if you were to come across me on the beaten path someday and you had a hard time telling if I was a guy or not then there is some consideration to be had here. But lets go one step further, what do we consider long and when is long to long? So when it comes to matters that may or may not be disputable lets give heed to Romans 14. I hope this makes some sense. Your brother in Christ, lionheart |

390 | Biblical era culture, abd Understanding | 1 Tim 2:12 | lionheart | 161275
justme, Greetings and God's best to you this day. Cultures no matter where we may be are always subject to change no matter what part of the planet we may come from or where we live. God and his Word are the same today as they were 2,000 years ago. We are the fickle ones.Without a relationship with Jesus Christ it's all pretty questionable. Mans problems and issues are no different today. We have a sin problem and we gotta get right with God In Christ, lionheart |

391 | Will the real Christian please stand up? | James 1:27 | lionheart | 161230
fellowlaborer, You make a good point.I think that even as christians we many times take a worldly view of religion. What the secular world calls religion God calls idolitry. If we take religion within the context of James 1:27 we can see that religion as stated within this verse is the result of a living vital relationship with Jesus Christ. It's our priority and responsibilty to keep God and his Word first in all aspects of our life. Matt 6:33. In Christ, lionheart |

392 | Living | Col 3:17 | lionheart | 161063
NightJay0044, I think that we tend to get nitpicky about what other people do,but especially with ourselves. We tend to get ourselves tied in knots when we try to micromanage everything we do. The one thing we might consider as we do whatever it is that we are doing is where is our heart at,where is our attitude? Colossians 3:17 does a good job of addressing this and will make our daily day to day walk much simpler. In Christ, lionheart |

393 | Your mind | 2 Tim 2:15 | lionheart | 161024
Greetings NightJay044, After reading your profile and most recent postings I'd like to encourage you with this. Strive to make 2 Timothy 2:15 a reality in your life. When we fill our hearts and minds with Gods Word and make Him and His Word top priority in our life we wont be jerked a around by the world and what it may throw at us. 1John 4:4 my friend. 394 | Healing | Ps 115:3 | lionheart | 161020
Jason, Greetings,Colossians 1:27 says that it's Christ in us the hope of glory.God may be in heaven but hes right here with us his sons and daughters. With that in mind dont you think Gods people can walk with the same power and authority today.Jesus is the same today as he was back in the days of the apostles. The disciples of Jesus day didnt go about willynilly healing whomever, they walk with the faith, humility, wisdom and attitude of heart that we should all be practicing today. Do we believe Ro 8:37,Philippians 4:13.It's not us but God.When we get that on straight God can and will do great things through us. In Christ, lionheart |

wonbyone, Greetings and welcome to the forum. I cant say for sure or not. They were not ignorant nor were they unaware of Gods Command to them. They did have freedom of choice. I would say bottom line right down to the simplest of terms this was a matter of disobedience to Gods explicite command to them. In Christ, lionheart |

lunar, You seem to know an awfull lot about us but we know nothing about you. How about telling us a little about you. This forum exists to encourage and educate those who seek to grow in their walk with God. It is not a platform to promote personal agenda, character assasination,or doctrinal mindspeak.
