Greetings shael, This is part of a quote from Hab 2:3 - "Hab 2:4 "Look at the proud person. He is not right in himself. But the righteous person will live because of his faithfulness. It probably refers to the same thing. . The sense is, that a persevering confidence or belief in the Lord will preserve us amidst all the trials and calamities to which we are exposed. 263 | Gen, 1:1-3 Gap theorythe fall?? | Gen 1:1 | prayon | 125601
Greetings and welcome to the forum Empty, There is indeed a theory called the "Gap Theory" that there was a gap of time between Gen 1:1 and 1:2. If the earth was created a fruitful place and then became a wilderness (see Jer 4:23-28) then there could be a gap of time in there. 2Peter 3:4-7 leads some scholars to believe this is indeed true. During this time a pre-Adamic race many have existed on a pre-Adamic earth. In addition Lucifer and his angels may have ruled over the nations. This is very possibly the time of the fall of Lucifer which the bible mentions but never elaborates on. In Gen 1:28 the KJV says to 'replenish' the earth. Gen 1:9 also says to 'replenish' the earth this time referring to the time of Noah. Why did the earth need replenished the first time? Hope this helps. prayon |

264 | difference btw kings and chronicles | 1 Kin 1:1 | prayon | 125590
GReetings Adex, This is a very good question. In the septuagint, the books of Samuel and Kings are entitled 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 3 Kings and 4 Kings. Together Samuel and Kings relate the whole history of the monarchy, from its rise to its fall. It is believed to of been written by Jeremiah before the exile. It is written from the prophetic point of view with an emphasis on the throne. It deals with the history of both Judah and Israel. Chrinicles includes a duel account of the history but mainly deals with the histroy of Judah. found in Samuel and Kings. In addition Chronicles contain unique histroy and therefore is regarded as a supplement to Samuel and Kings. It is believed to of been written by Ezra. Kings which was written by Jeremiah talks about both of the divided kingdoms whereas Chrinicles which was believed written by Ezra was written after the exile from a priestly point of view with an emphasis on the temple. Hope this helps. prayon |

266 | what did he do to be replaced ? | Acts 1:23 | prayon | 125482
Greetings - Both passages are talking about the day that Christ rose. And when Jesus had risen early the first day of the Sabbath, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons (Mar 16:9). After that He appeared in another form to two of them, walking and going into the country (Mar 16:12) and Afterward He appeared to the Eleven as they recline (Mar 16:14) In the John passage it tals about Mary finding the empty tomb and then it says Then the same day at evening, being the first of the sabbaths(Joh 20:19). So both passages talk about the first visit of Jesus to the upper room. If they both didn't refer to the "first of the sabbaths" then it might be quite possible that Mark was talking about a later event. prayon |

John 20:19-24 talks about the first visit Jesus made to the apostles in the upper room. Mark 16:14 also talks about the first visit Jesus made to the apostles in the upper room. John says that Thomas was not there. Mark says that he appeared to the 11. Therefore at that one visit the only one missing of the 12 was Thomas therefore Judas was there. Granted it does not say that he jumped off a cliff but he had to of fallen a good distance for his belly to burst open and his insides come out. When one falls a short distance that does not happen ---- Thank God! prayon |

270 | what did he do to be replaced ? | Acts 1:23 | prayon | 125389
Greetings Emmaus, Actually Judas did not hang himself. Strongs tells us that hang also means to choke. So I believe a better way to read this would be Judas was all choked up. Let me explain - First in Acts 1:18 it says "Now Judas purchased a field of blood with the wages of iniquity and falling headlong he burst open and all his insides burst out" (Field of Blood) Field is personal possession Field of blood is a plot of land v. 18 – with reward he got for his wickedness (stealing throughout ministry) v. 19 People called it the field of blood Matt 27:7 calls the piece of land bought with the silver a potter’s field - 2 entirely different places Field of blood is a plot of land Mark 16:14 says that Jesus appeared to the 11 in the upper room butJohn 20 19-*24 – Thomas wasn’t there when Jesus came so Judas had to of been there since they had not chosen a replacement apostle yet. Again in Acts 1:13 it says all 12 went back to the upper room and Judas name is listed as one of them. If he would of indeed ran off and hung himself after he threw the pieces of silver back he could not of been with the 12 in the upper room. I can't remember where I read it but if I remember right hanging wasn't a form of suicide at that time. Judas died by throwing himself off a cliff on his own land which is why it was named Field of Blood. prayon |

272 | speaking in tongue | 1 Cor 12:13 | prayon | 125355
Greetings Country Girl, May I bring your attention to 1Co 13:8-10: "Love never comes to an end. There is the gift of speaking what God has revealed, but it will no longer be used. There is the gift of speaking in other languages, but it will stop by itself. There is the gift of knowledge, but it will no longer be used. 1Co Our knowledge is incomplete and our ability to speak what God has revealed is incomplete. But when what is complete comes, then what is incomplete will no longer be used." "What is complete" is Jesus. The bible says that tongues will cease when Jesus comes therefore tongues are still in existance today. Therefore their must be away to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (tongues) without the apostles layihg hands on you. You have 3 examples of people receiveing the gift of tongues without the apostles laying hands on them. That shows without a doubt that you don't need the apostles to lay hands on you to speak in tongues. (The 3rd was Paul and Ananias - Ananias was not an apostle). As for no more apostles today. You said in a previous post "Since we have no more living Apostles amongst us, it's difficult to believe in the modern manifestation of miracles from common men and women, even christians in today's world" Why can't there be apostles today? Paul called himself an apostle and I have not reason not to believe it but he was not appointed by Jesus. He was appointed by God. (1Ti 1:1 From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and Christ Jesus our confidence.) So why can't God still appoint apostles? I call your attention to Eph 4:11-13 "He also gave apostles, prophets, missionaries, as well as pastors and teachers as gifts to his church. Their purpose is to prepare God's people, to serve, and to build up the body of Christ. This is to continue until all of us are united in our faith and in our knowledge about God's Son, until we become mature, until we measure up to Christ, who is the standard." Therefore the bible specifically states that we will have apostles until we become perfect. There are many form of miracles and I have seen some of them. They do exist today. If you really want to see miracle after miracle happen go to somewhere like India. As for tongues - I have a test for you. Pray out loud for about 5 minutes while you are praying write someone else an email. It will be impossible to do without stopping eiter part. A persons mind cannot do two things simultanesously without hesitating on one or the other. Do you know that when someone prays in tongues they can do both at the same time without problem? It is because it is not the person praying but the Holy Ghost who lives in them doing the praying. Tongues is very much alive today as well. prayon |

Greetings Songbird, YOu are right we do have different opinions. I go by the 5 instances of the baptism of the Spirit given in Acts. In each instance the evidence of speaking in tongues was given as a sign of baptism in the Holy Spirit. There is not record of any kind that one person did failed to receive the Spirit. Jesus said in Mark 16:17 "These are the miraculous signs that will accompany believers: They will use the power and authority of my name to force demons out of people. They will speak new languages. Jesus didn't say that some of the believers would speak in new tongues. He said that speaking in tongues would accompany those that believed. YOu said that we cannot ask for a gift. I disagree. I believe that if we can ask for any gift but whether we get it or not is up to God. For example if there was one thing that I am not it is discerning. I prayed repeatedly for the gift of discernment and God gave it to me. I sincerely believe that this gift was of no part of me before I received it. In your last sentence are you saying that you don't have to be reborn or saved to speak in tongues? prayon |

275 | speaking in tongues 1cor.12:1coming | 1 Cor 12:13 | prayon | 125312
Greetings Hank, I do not see how what I said can be a false notion. Receiving the HOly Spirit is seperate from being born again. Acts 8:15-16 tells us that the Samaritans were baptized in the name of Jesus but that Peter and John had to go to them and lay hands on them for them to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Again in Acts 10:45-48 it tells us the two are seperate. The Gentiles heard the word and were baptized in the HOly Ghost and began to speak in tongues. Peter then concluded "Can anyone forbid water that these, who have received the Holy Ghost as well as we, should not be baptized? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord." I have never read anywhere in the bible that there had or has to be a transitional period between being born again and being included in a church. You said that confirmation was necessary to verify the inclusion of a new group of people into the church. What would of happened if the apostales decided that they didn't want to let them into the church? Is there somewhere in scripture that says that the apostles had the authority to do that? Does that mean that when Jesus brings someone to salvation that if the apostles didn't believe that they should be included in the church that they overrule Jesus and say no? Does that meant that today when someone is born again that there has to be a transitional period so the pastors of a church can verify that the new converts will fall under the authority of the pastors? Where does it say in scripture that leader must be present for someone to receive the Spirit? I am not quite sure how you got the impression that I think Acts 8 contradicts 1Cor 12.... By the way Hank I has a slight bit of trouble looking up your Acts ll reference as Acts 11 only has 30 verses.... ;o) prayon |

276 | More info on Enuice and Lois | 2 Tim 1:5 | prayon | 125286
Greetings KAKMILL and welcome to the forum. I am not sure what you mean by "more" info on Eunice and Lois but Eunice was Timothy's mother and Lois was his grandmother. They both had great faith which helped prepare him for his ministry. There is only one verse in the bible that talks about Eunice and Lois - 2 Tim 1:5 Paul was talking to Timothy and stated " I'm reminded of how sincere your faith is. That faith first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice. I'm convinced that it also lives in you". This one verse gives Eunice and Lois their immortality because it speaks of the excellent job they did in raising Timothy and instilling in him godly virtues. They had prepared him for great responsibilities well. It was from Eunice and Lois that Timothy obtained his intimate knowledge of the Jewish Scriptures, (2Ti 3:15). In addition the religious faith of the mother and grandmother had been handed down to Timothy in overflowing measure. Eunice and Lois seem to step right from the pages of the Bible and tell us that there is nothing more important in a mother's life than the early training of her child. Hope this clears up your question, if not please be more specific on what you would like to know. prayon |

277 | speaking in tongues 1cor.12:1coming | 1 Cor 12:13 | prayon | 125283
Greetings Songbird, I agree with some of what you say but there are a couple things that were not accurate. The first is when you said "If every believer has been baptized in the Spirit, then it happens at the moment you accept Christ and become a Christian." Actually it does not. Acts 8:14-17 contradicts this. Notice verse 16 in particular "Before this the Holy Spirit had not come to any of the Samaritans. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." Therefore the baptism of the Holy Ghost does not come automatically when being born again. You also said that tongues is not for every believer. It is a gift to all. Acts tells of 5 instances that tongues were the evidence of the Holy Spirit's indwelling (see Acts 2,8,9,10, and 19), all who were baptized had the evidence of speaking in tongues except for one instance and it was alluded to. Tongues is for all Christians who meet the 5 conditions - Salvation, obedience, faith, asking, and yielding (please see my answer to MrOteng for scriptures and explanations). Mark 16:17 clearly states that those who are believers will speak in new languages "These are the miraculous signs that will accompany believers: They will use the power and authority of my name to force demons out of people. They will speak new languages." He does not say some of the believers he says ALL of the believers. Again in Acts 2:4 it says all believers "All the believers were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak". Acts 2:38-39 again says all believers " Peter answered them, "All of you must turn to God and change the way you think and act, and each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins will be forgiven. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift. There are 2 sides to tongues the public side and the private side. This is where the confusion lies. The private side of tongues is what was given in Acts 2,8,9,10 and 19. The private side of tongues is a devotional gift where you speak to God and edify yourself. Public tongues is a ministry gift of the Holy Spirit where you speak for God and edify the church. This gift is not given to everyone. Hope this clears up some stuff. prayon |

278 | speaking in tongues 1cor.12:1coming | 1 Cor 12:13 | prayon | 125282
Greetings MrOteng, Robin is right. Speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit available to everyone. It is the evidence of the Holy Spirits indwelling (see Acts 2,8,9,10, and 19). There are 5 conditions for receiving the Holy Spirit. 1) Must be saved (John 14:17) 2) Must be obedient. A Christian in known sin can not receive, his heart will condemn him resulting in no faith (Acts 5:32) 3) Must have faith. A Christian must be fully persuaded that this experience is in him. (Gal 3:2) 4) Must ask in faith (Mark 11:24; Luke 11:13) 5) Must yield to the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4) Since the gift of tongues is available to everyone the reasons that a Christian would not area lack of: 1) obedience to God in their life 2) Faith 3) Yeilding when the Holy Spirit comes on them such as your mouth is closed, you are speaking in English (can't speak in 2 languages at the same time). Hope this helps. prayon |

279 | So His stripes were in vain? | 1 Thess 5:18 | prayon | 125134
mommapbs, So you believe that it is God's intention for us not to be healed but if we get sick that we should just live with it? When we claim a healing we are claiming it in the spiritual realm - and in the spiritual realm we have it - if we have the faith to receive it. That healing may not appear instantaneously in the physical but we should be looking for it to appear. And yes I would declare my loved one lacked faith if they did not believe that God can heal them and if they were not looking to receive that healing in the physical realm. Until that manifestation we should continue with insulin or whatever the illness requires. My question to you is that the bible says that "by His stripes we are healed". How can God want us to remain sick (just live with it) when He sent Jesus to the cross so we didn't have to? Was part of God's sacrifice in vain? If Jesus bore all my sickness on the cross why should I have to suffer with it now? prayon |
||||||
280 | What's really going on? | 1 Thess 5:18 | prayon | 125075
Greetings, When you are healed you must walk in that healing - even when you are healed before the physical manifestation takes place. So many people do not believe that God will really heal you. The most important thing to receive a healing is you must have the faith that God did heal you. You turn faith loose by: Believing right Thinking right Making the right confession It is not a lack of power that hinders people, it is a lack of faith. Doubt also robs God’s people of their blessings. Here are the 4 steps Abraham used to work for him: 1) have God’s word for what you desire to receive from God 2) Believe God’s word 3) Consider not the contradictory circumstances 4) Give praise to God for the answer Whenever the illness tries to come back you must go into the warfare mode and deny what the physical is telling you and believe what God has told you and done for you. The devil will always try to use sickness as a way of decreasing your faith in God and your importance to Him. Hope this helps some. |
