302 | what was the foolish thing Samuel did | 1 Sam 13:13 | prayon | 124036
Greetings worknprogress, In 1Sam 10:8 Samuel gave Saul instructions to go to Gilgal and to wait on Samuel for 7 days and Samuel would come down and offer burnt sacrifices for the battle but Samuel took his time in coming on the 7th day and Saul went ahead and offered the sacrifices himself. This is what Samuel was referring to when he said that Saul had done foolishly. Saul's sin was not that he offered the sacrifice but that he was disobedient to the prophet and didn't wait for his priestly assistance. Saul wanted to have absolute power in both civil and sacred matters. Samuel was testing Saul's obedience and character to God but he failed by invading the priestly office himself in offereing the sacrifice himself. prayon

304 | What age do we not have to obey parents? | Mark 10:19 | prayon | 114216
Greetings sandstorm, the bible does not give a time limit on honoring your parents, therefore you are to honor them as long as they are your parents. The NT tells us in 6 different places to "honor your father and mother"and twice in the OT. The only thing that should keep you from obeying them is if it is a clear and direct violation of scripture, but even then you are to show them respect. You should live by their rules as long as you are living in their house. prayon
305 | Is praying for someone to die wrong? | Matt 22:39 | prayon | 114214
Greetings and welcome to the forum. Yes it is wrong. Matt 22:36-39 says that when asked what the greatest commandment Jesus said it is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind. He also said that the 2nd greatest commmandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. This means that Jesus is telling you to love this individual. Continue to love her and pray for her. Pro 25:21-22 says that "If your enemy is hungry, give him some food to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him some water to drink. In this way you will make him feel guilty and ashamed, and the LORD will reward you". Remember that there is nothing that prayer can't change no matter how bad and hopeless it looks in the natural. The other thing to remember is that with God all things are possible, including getting through high school in one piece. prayon |

306 | is this detramental to salvation | 2 Cor 13:14 | prayon | 112978
Greetings! God gave us His son as a sacrifice for our sins. He made Him human so that He could die for us. We are to pray to God the Father in Jesus name. No where in the bible does it tell us to pray to Jesus. There are two areas of prayer. The first one is the Formal side of prayer or the business side. This is conducting spiritual transactions or business with God through prayer (1Cor 3:9). The other side is the informal side of prayer or the nonbusiness side. This is fellowshipping with God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit. Joh 16:23 When that day comes, you won't ask me any more questions. I can guarantee this truth: If you ask the Father for anything in my name, he will give it to you. Eph 5:20 Always thank God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Phi 4:6 Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests while giving thanks. Col 1:3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, in our prayers for you. Hope this clears it up for you. prayon |

314 | help | 2 Cor 5:17 | prayon | 111973
Greetings Dave, I agree with what terrib said but I want to add a little more. Know that you will make mistakes, we all do. There is not one tht doesn't. The thing to remember is that God is a forgiving God and He knows where your heart is. So don't get down on yourself when you do. You are the child of a King! I agree that the most important thing is to find a bible believing church. Keep trying different churches until you get to the one that feels like home and then stay there. To keep your focus stay in the word. You need the word as much as your body needs food. You can not survive without it. When you run into a question then just ask it at the forum, we will be glad to help you understand what you read. I also agree that you need to find a bible that you can understand. For simplicity I love the God's Word translation. prayon prayon |

Then who is the Spirit to come in John 16:13? ("When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into the full truth. He won't speak on his own. He will speak what he hears and will tell you about things to come.") Why when Jesus was talking to the apostles did He say in a few days that you will be baptized if they were already baptized as you claim? (Act 1:5 John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." Act 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes to you.) If they already had the Holy Spirit then Jesus did not know what He was talking about when He told them they would be baptized in a few days. prayon |

318 | prayon, Infilling happen at salvation? | 1 Cor 12:11 | prayon | 111845
Searcher shall follow 3877 KJV for will accompany From G3844 and G190; to follow near, that is, (figuratively) attend (as a result), trace out, conform to: - attain, follow, fully know, have understanding. Since Jesus tells us tells us in John 16:13 When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into the full truth. He won't speak on his own. He will speak what he hears and will tell you about things to come. This shows that He (the Spirit) was not here yet so receive has to be in the future tense. That is what I said - being baptized with the Spirit is for Christians only and not the same as being baptized in water. prayon |

319 | Prayon, Do you claim the other 4, too? | 1 Cor 12:11 | prayon | 111840
No it is not, first of all I have not died yet - I still have a life ahead of me. (Henry) Deadly poisons - "If they be compelled by their persecutors to drink any deadly poisonous thing" not that they were hereby warranted to drink poison, to show what power they had; but should they accidentally drink it, or rather should they be forced to it by their enemies in order to destroy them, they should find no hurt by it (Gill) I guess this couldn't apply to even the apostles then because the bible does not give an example of this happening. Also if taking this literally it can violate the Principle of Literature in Bible Interpretation. prayon |

Searcher, I do believe that when God makes a promise to believers it is for everyone who is a believer. Do you cast out demons in His name? Yes I have. Do I lay hands on the sick and the recover? Yes I have Do I pick up serpents? If by serpents you mean snakes? Yes I have - Ever heard of the Rattlesnakes at Silver Springs in Orlando, FL? I have also walked up and took bones out of guard dogs mouths that the owners say should of killed me. Do I drink deadly poisons? To my knowledge I have not. But I know that I have eaten things that should of made me very sick, it did other people, but it did not bother me. prayon |
