243 | what is talking in tongue mean and | Matt 28:19 | prayon | 128528
Greetings and welcome to the forum, Speaking in tongues is when the HOly Ghost who lives in your heart is doing the talking and not you. There are 2 types of tongues. The first is for personal use to glorify God and for self edification. This needs no interpretation because it is spoken to God and God alone. It can be used when you choose. The second tongues is for Public use. It can be exercised only as the Spirit wills. Tongues here is for the edification of the church. This is the type that needs to be interpreted. In answer to your question yes a church of 500 can all speak in tongues at the same time for their personal use. Hope this helps. prayon Many people have been robbed of the blessing God has for them by believing that speaking in tongues isn't for everybody. |

244 | principle of Biblical interpretation | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 128407
Greetings geof and welcome to the forum. Is there a principle in interpreting the bible? Yes! There are many. Some include the principle of word study, the principle of context, the principle of parallelism, and the principle of culture. There is a very good book that I used in school called "Knowing Scripture" by R. C. Sproul. If you would like to delve into interpretation I suggest you read this book to get an understanding of it. As or different denominations they almost all interpret things in different ways. Some get their interpretation from history of their denomination, some get it from making the bible fit their needs. The best thing to do is to study the word and see how God would lead you to understanding. Hope this helps. prayon
245 | Staying together before marriage. | 1 Cor 8:9 | prayon | 128058
Greetings Jeremy, I agree with the others - but I wanted to add another verse that I believe is important to consider: Mat 5:27-28 "You have heard that it was said, Never commit adultery. But I can guarantee that whoever looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery in his heart." You don't have to commit the act of fornication to have commited the sin - thoughts of fornication are sin in the eyes of our Lord. I also want to make an observation. Since you thought the question important enough to ask on the forum could it possibly be that your heart is convicting you that it it wrong? prayon |

246 | Psalm 46:10 | Ps 46:10 | prayon | 128012
Greetings 8788, You are not alone in your problem, I do the same thing. I am still looking for a way to win this battle. Unfortunetly there is no cut and dry solution. Some of the things that help me are to have some praise music praying. I have found that when I listen and concentrate on the words that praise him I can keep the praise going when the song is off and praising is a part of prayer. Another thing that I do is I will pray one thought through and then call out the name of Jesus over and over until my mind is solely on Him again. You can also make yourself a "prayer area or room" where there are no distractions. Surround yourself with Him or His creation. Make sure that you are away from distractionary noises. Some people write the prayer they are praying to keep them focused. I tend to walk and pray. I also do a lot of praying in my car while I am driving. I also pray a lot in tongues (I don't know if your denomination believes in tongues). When I pray in tongues the Holy Ghost inside me continues to pray even if my mind wanders and it will "snap me out" or my mind wanderings. If need be then keep a sheet of paper close so that when a problem comes to mind or something that you need to do write it down so you don't forget and then forget about it. You can also use this paper to write down what God gives you while in prayer. May God bless you in your struggle to overcome! prayon |

247 | Mal. 3:10 | Rom 8:32 | prayon | 127686
Greetings, Some people believed that tithing started with the Law of Moses in the old covenant however this is not the case, The bible says that Abraham paid tithes (Gen 14:18-21) therefore tithing was not under the law of the OT. In the chapter about tithing in Malache (3) people often fail to read or just plain ignore verse 6 that says "I, the LORD, never change." After saying this He continues on to say that if you do not tithe you are robbing Him. Tithing was not done away with when the new covenant came into being. We are all required to pay 10 percent of our gross income. 1Cor 19:13-14 says "Don't you realize that those who work at the temple get their food from the temple? Don't those who help at the altar get a share of what is on the altar? In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who spread the Good News should earn their living from the Good News". The priests in the OT lived off of the tithes of the people, the same as they should do today. If you have not been paying your tithes it is the same as any other sin - you repent (change the way you think and act) and God will forgive you and you can start fresh to be obedient. Hope this helps. prayon |

248 | What is the kingdom of God ? | Matt 6:33 | prayon | 126849
Greetings Zam zam and welcome to the forum! The God's Word translation makes it a little easier to understand what Christ means: "But first, be concerned about his kingdom and what has his approval. Then all these things will be provided for you". You seek the kingdom by seeking God. Seek - (to seek literally or figuratively; specifically to worship God - be about, desire, endeavour, enquire , require) His face - seek a relationship with Him daily. Make your single aim to be have God to reign in your life and your heart. The kingdom of God "comes not with outward show" (Luk:17:20) but is chiefly that which is inward and spiritual (Rom:14:17). Seek him with your whole heart. Hope this helps. prayon |

252 | Explain how to find an ans.to ques.submi | Ps 91:1 | prayon | 126584
Greetings and welcome to the forum! First when you ask a question on the "preview answer" page there is a question that says "Notify me via email when..." Make sure that you have "yes" checked. When your question is answered you will get an email with a link to your question and the answer. Another easy way is to look in the lower left side of the page for "user info". Click on that and it will take you to a page that will tell you how many quesions you have asked. Click on that number and all the questions you have asked will come up. Another way is to type in a key word or the verse in your question in the search box and search for it but there could be 100 replies with that key word or verse in it. Just a note: When you hit the box to submit on the preview page be sure to click only ONE time. If you click more than one time your quesion will be repeated for each click. Enjoy the forum!! prayon |

254 | WAS I THE ONE THAT GOT IT | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 126385
Greetings, Even though you initiated the "divorce" proceedings you are not the one responsible. You did nothing to bread up the marriage your spouse did it all. The "divorce" was not the end of your marriage the violence ended your marriage, and the one responsible for the violence is responsible for the end of the marriage. The "divorce" is only in fact a public acknowledgement of the private truth that a marriage has been destroyed by violence. Although I am sure it was a painful process you were only taking the steps necessary to remove you and your child from an destructive and dangerous situation. Hope this answers your question. prayon |

255 | WAS MY IMPORTANT DIVORCE A SIN | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 126291
Greetings, Mat 19:6 says "So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder" ASV. Any man that brings violence and abuse into his family life is putting asunder the marriage covenant that God has blessed. The violence is what breads up the marriage and the one responsible for that violence is the one responsible for the divorce. YOu committed no sin. Instead you used wisdom. Many people do not understand what it takes to get out of an abuse situation, I do because I have been there and I commmend you. prayon

Greetings Mike, One thing that can have a lot to do with motivation to read the bible is whether you understand what you are reading. If you don't understand what you are reading it can not hold your interest. I suggest the first thing you do is to find a bible that you can enjoy reading. I like the God's Word translation. Another one that is easy to read and understand is the Message Bible. These are just 2 there are many more out there. In addition don't try to over do it. There is no rush. Just read a chapter or 2 a day. There are a few "read the bible in a year" outlines you can also go by. These can help you stay on track. Happy Reading!!! prayon
258 | ok to sin because of the flesh | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 126288

259 | What did Jesus mean when he said this? | Matthew | prayon | 125989
Greetings, He did this because he knew the life a widower had to live when there was no one to care for them. Mary was a widower and therefore had no one to care for her. It is probable that Joseph, her husband, was long since dead, and that her son Jesus had supported her, and her relation to him had been her maintenance; and now that he was dying what would become of her? Christ tenderly provided for his mother at his death. Christ's example teaches all men to honour their aged parents in life and death; to provide for their wants, and to promote their comfort by every means in their power. prayon I am not sure about the sign of the cross. You will have to ask that question again. |

GReetings monkeyman, I think that it should be a balance of both. The service should follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes one will be longer or more intense than the other but both are needed. prayon
