221 | who was isaiah | Gen 2:1 | prayon | 133369
Greetings and welcome to the forum, Isaiah, which means salvation of the Lord, was the son of Amoz and was a prophet to Judah during the reign of 4 kings - Uzziah, Hotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah during the time of the divided kingdom. Isaiah is quoted more than any other prophet in the New Testament. He is sometimes known as the evangelistic prophet and the book of Isaiah is sometimes known as the 5th gospel. The major thrust of his messages was directed to the southern kingdom of Judah. He condemned the empty ritualism of his day, and the idolatry into which so many had fallen. He also gives more prophesies of Christ than any other prophet. He lived until at least 681 BC and met his death under the reign of King Manasseh by being cut into with a wooden saw. 225 | What does Isaiah 32:4 mean? | Is 32:4 | prayon | 132889
Greetings cpourcho and welcome to the forum. Isa 32:4 means exactly what it says. 32:1-8 are talking about a reign of righteousness. Verse 1 says that a king will reign in rightousness - they can only be referring to Jesus and talking about His millenial reign. At that time all of us will be perfected in our heavenly bodies including thoses who are rash in their thinking and their actions and those who stammer or stutter will be cured! prayon

227 | Does Jesus HIMSELF specifically state... | John 10:11 | prayon | 132388
Greetings Sienna, Yes, He does. In John 10:9-10 Jesus says that He is the door and anyone who enters by Him will be saved. He goes on to say that he has come that they may have life and have it more abundantly. To understand that He is saying that He came to die so that we could live is to understand that the whenever there is sin there must be a blood sacrifice in order to make attonement for that sin. In the OT the people sacrificed animals for the atonement. Christ became our lamb who went to the cross and died so that we could be free and live. Verse 11 also reinforces this when He says I am the good shepherd and the good shepherd lays down His life for His sheep. prayon |

228 | What is the correct way to pray | Matt 6:9 | prayon | 132385
Greetings lorenzo, In Matthew 6:5-15 Jesus gives us detailed explanation on how to pray. I have heard all three of your statements used in prayer and they were all in line with the word. It would really depend on what context they were said in. Sometimes people believe that they need to have hands layed on them to receive something from God and that is OK. Buy it the person is doing it in the context that just because they said it it will happen then they are out of line. There is nowhere in the bible that someone had to pay to receive a blessing. Asking for money in exchange for blessings is not of God. However, it is a fact that if you give God will give back to you pressed down, shaken together and running over. Again it depends on the context it was said in. I hope I haven't confused you too much... Here is another guideline for prayer that I find quite useful. THE 5 FINGERS OF PRAYER 1. Your thumb is nearest to you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. 2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers. 3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance. 4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them. 5. And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all. Which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively. prayon |

230 | Who is Mary Magdalene? | Luke 8:2 | prayon | 131484
Greetings JoAnn and welcome to the forum, No, they are not one in the same. Mary Magadalene was one of the women who ministered to Jesus and contributed to Him financially. She was identified as "one from whom 7 demons had gone out"(Luke 8:2). She has traditionally been identified with the sinful woman (a prostitute) who annointed His feet with expensive oil and dried them with her tears but that is unlikely since she is introduced in 8:2. No name is ever given for either of the women you have mentioned. Hope this helps. prayon
231 | What should be a woman's boundaries? | Ruth 2:22 | prayon | 131284
Greetings, I think that you your extention can be valid. Unfortunetly there are pastors and leaders who will do say and do unappropriate things. #1 shouldn't have to be extended to the church but unfortunetly it is. #2 is biblically based. Pro 2:12-14: "Wisdom will save you from the way of evil, from the person who speaks devious things, from those who abandon the paths of righteousness to walk the ways of darkness, from those who enjoy doing evil, from those who find joy in the deviousness of evil". prayon |

233 | What should be a woman's boundaries? | Ruth 2:22 | prayon | 131118
Greetings Reighnskye, YOu have asked a good question and you are right it is especially applicable in today's times. It is not wrong for a woman to work among men. Boundaries for each woman should be set according to the woman and the men she works with. Some men the woman could clown around with and they would know that it all in fun. There are some men that if you clowned around with them there would be sexual conutations assumed. In all cases though the woman should carry herself as a Christ-like person. She should uphold the standards that the Bible sets for us. She should also be sure that she does not cause anyone to stumble. (Mal 2:8; 1Cor 10:32) Hope this helps. prayon |

234 | what did Jesus mean by whatsoever right? | Matt 20:4 | prayon | 131116
Greetings Robertn and welcome to the forum, A lot of times it helps to read a different translation if you don't understand the meaning of a verse. The Gods Word translation says " He said to them, 'Work in my vineyard, and I'll give you whatever is right.' So they went. These men were so eager to work that they did not even negotiate the price. The landowner said that he would pay them what he thought was a fair wage. prayon |

236 | What did Antioch look like? | Acts 13:14 | prayon | 130735
Greetings, Antioch, the third largest city in the province, was a important city of commerce that was located on the Orontes River and was on the east-west highway that ran from Jerusalem to Rome. The city itself, which became a Roman colony in 25 BC, was a city of great splendor and influence. The city could be considered a melting pot. There was a large population of Jews but was also inhabited by Greeks, Romans, Syrians, and possibly others. Hope this helps. prayon
237 | Opinions on Rev 2:8-11 | Rev 2:8 | prayon | 129741
Greetings, Smyrna is known as the persecuted church. The city was loyal to Rome and participated in emperor worship. In the letter the church at Smyrna recieved an accomendation. Verse 9 says "I know your works". They were works of the spirit resulting from faith and not works purely in the flesh. They showed faithfulness int he midst of tribulation and poverty. This letter and the one to Philidelphia were the only ones that had no rebuke in them. This letter was more of an encouragement to stand strong in their faith amidst the persecution they were facing and were going to face. There were given the promise of the crown of life and to not be hurt by the second death for staying strong. prayon |

240 | A SIN TO FILE BANKRUPTCY | 1 Pet 4:10 | prayon | 129624
Greetings, Since there is no scripture that I know of I will tell you what I believe. I believe that it lays with the reason for the bankruptsy. Sometimes we get into a hardship because of something that was beyond our control - such as a medical problem, loss of a job, disability or other situations beyond our control. When those situations arise, if we have been good stewards of our finances I do not believe that it is a sin to file a bankruptsy. However if one is filing because of greed, carelessness or the like then I believe that we are responsible for our debts. I hope that helps. prayon
