Bible Question: Does Jesus HIMSELF specifically state anywhere in the Bible that the purpose of His death was to take away our sins? Thank you! |
Bible Answer: Greetings Sienna, Yes, He does. In John 10:9-10 Jesus says that He is the door and anyone who enters by Him will be saved. He goes on to say that he has come that they may have life and have it more abundantly. To understand that He is saying that He came to die so that we could live is to understand that the whenever there is sin there must be a blood sacrifice in order to make attonement for that sin. In the OT the people sacrificed animals for the atonement. Christ became our lamb who went to the cross and died so that we could be free and live. Verse 11 also reinforces this when He says I am the good shepherd and the good shepherd lays down His life for His sheep. prayon |
