Subject: speaking in tongue |
Bible Note: Greetings Country Girl, May I bring your attention to 1Co 13:8-10: "Love never comes to an end. There is the gift of speaking what God has revealed, but it will no longer be used. There is the gift of speaking in other languages, but it will stop by itself. There is the gift of knowledge, but it will no longer be used. 1Co Our knowledge is incomplete and our ability to speak what God has revealed is incomplete. But when what is complete comes, then what is incomplete will no longer be used." "What is complete" is Jesus. The bible says that tongues will cease when Jesus comes therefore tongues are still in existance today. Therefore their must be away to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (tongues) without the apostles layihg hands on you. You have 3 examples of people receiveing the gift of tongues without the apostles laying hands on them. That shows without a doubt that you don't need the apostles to lay hands on you to speak in tongues. (The 3rd was Paul and Ananias - Ananias was not an apostle). As for no more apostles today. You said in a previous post "Since we have no more living Apostles amongst us, it's difficult to believe in the modern manifestation of miracles from common men and women, even christians in today's world" Why can't there be apostles today? Paul called himself an apostle and I have not reason not to believe it but he was not appointed by Jesus. He was appointed by God. (1Ti 1:1 From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and Christ Jesus our confidence.) So why can't God still appoint apostles? I call your attention to Eph 4:11-13 "He also gave apostles, prophets, missionaries, as well as pastors and teachers as gifts to his church. Their purpose is to prepare God's people, to serve, and to build up the body of Christ. This is to continue until all of us are united in our faith and in our knowledge about God's Son, until we become mature, until we measure up to Christ, who is the standard." Therefore the bible specifically states that we will have apostles until we become perfect. There are many form of miracles and I have seen some of them. They do exist today. If you really want to see miracle after miracle happen go to somewhere like India. As for tongues - I have a test for you. Pray out loud for about 5 minutes while you are praying write someone else an email. It will be impossible to do without stopping eiter part. A persons mind cannot do two things simultanesously without hesitating on one or the other. Do you know that when someone prays in tongues they can do both at the same time without problem? It is because it is not the person praying but the Holy Ghost who lives in them doing the praying. Tongues is very much alive today as well. prayon |
