261 | Saving graces? | 1 Cor 2:14 | Mommapbs | 60820
Greetings John! In advance, please forgive my theological ignorance but I have never heard the term "saving graces" before! Could you please show me where you get this Scripturally. "God employs prayers and preaching as the means by which He saves." "Conversion is is accomplished when God bestows upon us the saving graces of repentance and faith." Thanks! Blessings, Mommapbs PS: Whitfield's quote, " And who that attends, especially with reverence and care, can tell but he may be found of that happy number?" Why are reverence and care required? Are these part of what God gives the "elect" that enables them to believe? |

262 | OT Promises for New Testament believers? | Heb 8:9 | Mommapbs | 60540
Greetings Johnny. Thank you for your reply. I agree we are not under the Law. And I also agree that as Gentiles, we have no "right" to the land that God promised as a possession to Israel. However, I base my reasoning upon Gen 17:19. God specifically DENIES the descendents of Ishmael from His promise of the land. Some may argue that as believers, we are ingrafted branches into Israel and therefore suggest that as "adopted" children we too have a "right" to the promised land. Yet, throughout Scripture we see earthly reminders of a Heavenly reality. OUR inheritance is an eternal one, a promised land that will never fade away . . . However, I am more interested in whether or not we can appropriate the PROMISES of God in the OLD Testament. For example, see the passage in Jer 29:11-14. Can believers draw comfort from these promises to the nation of Israel in exile? Why or why not? Please support your answer. Blessings, Mommapbs |

263 | God's Word: for Israel, for us? | Heb 8:9 | Mommapbs | 60525
As New Covenant believers, how do we appropriate God's Word as spoken to Israel? Many Scripture references are specifically directed toward and about Israel. Is it important to make a distinction in God's Word here? Why or Why not? Are promises to Israel, God's chosen people, also for us as His "chosen ones" in Christ? Please support your answers, Thanks! God bless your day! Mommapbs Note to "older Forum members": I tried to use the "search feature" before asking these questions! 266 | Is "nearer the truth" good enough? | Job 42:7 | Mommapbs | 58483
Thanks for the prompt reply Makarios! I've missed interacting on the Forum, but I'm home for a couple of days and this has been on my mind so I thought I'd put it out there for some discussion. Is "nearer the truth" good enough? This bothers me a bit; it kind of reminds me about the one who knows about God, but is 18 inches short of really knowing Him. (Head knowledge is NOT good enough!) What are your thoughts? Blessings to you and yours! Mommapbs |

270 | Sensitive topic questions | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 55587
Greetings Searcher et al! Let's continue to explore this sensitive topic. These might be questions we need to consider: "The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does." 1 Cor 7:4 If our bodies belong to our spouses, do we have any "say" over what is done to our bodies by our partner? How can we be "mutually submissive" if oral sex is a "questionable" practice for one partner? Blessings, Mommapbs |

273 | Avoiding paritality in soul care | James 2:1 | Mommapbs | 53190
In James 2 we are admonished not to show partiality in our treatment of others. When we consider "soul care," I'm wondering, do we show partiality when we offer more care and concern for the downtodden as opposed to those who "seem" to have it made? Since when does worldly wealth equal spiritual health? When we look at others of "means," do we see the dollar sign or the soul behind those bars? Comments? |

274 | When should communion be offered? | NT general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 51921

275 | Hebrew Scholar needed! | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 51570
Gen 1:24-25 describes the creation of animals. In Gen 2:18, the Lord states that it is not good for the man to be alone, and verse 19 follows this by saying (so)"Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name." It would appear that there are TWO creative events for animals. My inclination is that the creation of the animals of Gen 1:24-25 is simply restated in verse 19 and not a separate account. Please help with the context here! |

276 | Eternity - the real bottom line? | Acts 2:38 | Mommapbs | 51494
Greetings Rob! You asked," But if we cannot be united with Christ in his death without baptism (Rom 6) then why do you tell people they need not be baptized?" Perhaps you have misunderstood my position. I am not saying that believers need not to be baptized (water immersed)for indeed this is easy act of obedience we can do to show our love for Jesus. I believe the salvic "baptism" that we receive upon confession of faith is of and by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5). This question has been "is water baptism necessary for SALVATION?" To which I answer,"NO." Salvation is a gift of God alone; if water baptism was required, that would be a "work" or a way to "earn" God's favor. (Eph 2:8-9) God loves everyone of us exactly the same. Nothing we DO can make Him love us more or less than He does at this very moment. I see water baptism as an act of obedience that FOLLOWS the new birth wrought at the moment of salvation. Eph 2:10 puts this in the proper order: "We are God's workmanship, created in CHrist Jesus, unto good WORKS which He prepared in advance for us to DO." (EMPHASIS, mine) God loved me, a sinner - I believed(this moment only God alone can know, for He sees my heart); God saved me by His Grace; I demonstrated my love for Him by my obedience to His Word. I confessed with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and entered the waters of baptism. Had I died prior to entering the baptistry (months after my conversion) WHERE would I spend ETERNITY? Isn't this the REAL bottom line? |

277 | Right vs Righteous | NT general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 51458
It seems that in some of our discussions on the Forum we are more interested in being "right" than "righteous! Are we, as men and women, in our efforts to be "right," putting words in God's mouth? Comments? |

278 | Holy Spirit evidence of Salvation? | Acts 2:38 | Mommapbs | 51274
Greetings Forum participants! For many days we have masticated the issue of baptismal regeneration or the belief that water baptism is necessary for salvation. Now, if the Holy Spirit is only given AFTER (water) baptism, how could the Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit as they did in Acts 10 PRIOR to their water baptism? |

280 | God's Order: Belief First! | Acts 10:47 | Mommapbs | 50714
There has been much dicussion recently on the baptism regeneration issue and questions about the salvation of the thief on the cross. I believe the following may be helpful. Using this text, how can water baptism ever be a prerequisite for regeneration (salvation)? Read the account of Peter's message to the Gentiles in Acts 10:34-48 The Gospel was preached, the people believed, the Holy Spirit was given and THEN they were baptized with water. Hopefully, this will clear up any misunderstanding about the order that God has established for salvation since Eden. BELIEF is the key - God does ALL the work necessary to make us acceptable, to be righteous in HIS sight, to be reconciled to Him. After our BELIEF, we have the blessed opportunity of demonstrating our love for the Savior by what we DO. (Eph 2:10) Now let us honor His love for us and be likeminded as believers to be reconciled to one another! JESUS MUST BE FIRST ALWAYS! |
