21 | The unpardonable sin? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 102056
Greetings AO - See John 10 28! THis is a post I wrote on this verse that answers your question. We must remember that God alone is the judge of the intent of one's heart. And those who come to Him by faith, (Romans 10:9-17) He will never forsake. As an encouragement, the Holy Spirit is God's gift to us upon our confession of faith;(2 Cor 1:21-22; Ephesians 1:13-14) He is our guarantee of salvation and assures us of our right standing with God based upon the finished work of Jesus Christ.(see 1 John 5) May God bless you through His Word. mommapbs PS: I hope that you won't get too critical of the FORUM! No one is perfect and we all have more than an eternity of Truth to be learned. The Forum is NOT a market place where one can pick and choose what to "buy" but rather it should be more like a courtroom where Truth is sought and sometimes debated for greater clarification of the same! |

22 | Can we disappoint the omniscient God? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 102227
Greetings Makarios - there has been some discussion on the Forum previously about the omniscience of Jesus prior to the cross. When He emptied Himself (Phil 2:7), did He "set aside" this aspect of His participation in the Godhead? I see Jesus in perfect communion with the Father, and thus all that the Father revealed to Him, Jesus knew and He told His disciples as well! (John 17:8) In order to experience man's walk on earth, it makes sense that He had to also "walk by faith", totally dependent upon His Father. Also, if Jesus were omniscient, why would He not know the day or the hour of His return? (Mt 24:26) - He was made a little lower than the angels therefore, if the angels do not know, even without this verse could we infer that Jesus relinquished some of His Divine attributes for us as well . . . If He gave up His life, and suffered the forsaking of God for us, what would be so out of line to suggest that He set aside His omniscience? He could lay down His life and take it up again; could He not also do the say with His omnisicince? - I'm still trying to ponder this whole possibility . . . if this is too controversial, let's just leave it. Thanks for any insight or input you might have. Blessings, mommapbs |

23 | Can we disappoint the omniscient God? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 102244
Thanks Makarios for this wonderful observation - it has really helped to keep the Divinity of Jesus within my ability to understand. What you have said: "Christ voluntarily did not use some of His divine attributes on some occasions, so that He could accomplish everything that He came to do." makes sense to me! I struggled with the concept of Jesus as God apart from His Divine nature. This answers that problem for me! ("He did not subtract a single divine attribute, or in any way make Himself less than God.") Thanks again! Blessings to you and yours - mommapbs |

Yes, for good reason! We, like children, derive much from "anticipation," As I recall planning parties or celebrations for my children I am always amazed at how excited they are in the days preceding the event. How does this compare to some who appear to be even igonrant of the FACT that Jesus IS coming?! I, for one, am excited and become even more so as I see the "signs" that He told us would herald His appearing! Blessings, mommapbs |

25 | Were Angels created Holy? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 104729
Greetings joel k. A cheeseburger may "look good" but it can house all sorts of nasty bacteria than can kill the consumer. Would God create such a thing and call it "good?" If we decide that God did not create the angels to be "good" then we must ponder the "creation" of evil. I might suggest that angels were created as holy beings, and as such, they were beyond redemption when they chose to leave "their first estate." We know little about the angelic order, but does it make sense that God would have created them without His essence of holiness? However, since NONE are God and no angelic being posesses HIS exact nature,(He can not deny Himself - 2 Tim 2:13) we might be persuaded to conclude that the possibility to reject that essence exisits. However, unlike mankind, the angelic "fall" could not be redeemed. Frankly, it is far better to be concerned about man's holiness than that of the angelic order. God says, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." 1 Peter 1:16. Can we be holy on our own or does God "make us" this way? I see this as imputed righteousness, a restoration of our right standing before God, that Adam was created with but had lost because of his sin - rebellion against God's law. (Herein may lie a hint of why the angelic order was beyond redemption. But I choose not to even speculate upon this.) mommapbs PS: Jesus said, "No one is good except God alone." Luke 18:19 vs "And God saw that it (His creation) WAS good" (note the past tense) |

Just read your profile Joel - I'd like to disagree with your assessment of the biggest question anyone will encounter . . . In fact Jesus Himself poses the question: "Who do you say I am?" Mt 16:15 It is not "why?", but rather WHO?! In Christ, mommapbs |

Greetings Kalos - if one reads bewteen the lines of this post, it appears that the author does not have an understanding for the righteousness of God that is ours (both OT and NT Saints) through faith. (I'm a bit surprised that you didn't pick up on this!) Why this thread has been restricted, I have no clue, because it seems that the poster needs some sound Biblical counsel! Blessings, mommapbs |

Hi buddy234. No one understands everything and no one has the answers - only God. But Gods' Word PROMISES. "the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever." 1 Chon. 28:9 God knows your heart. The promise of God, the redemption of sinful man and restoration of his relationship with God for eternity was promised to the OT saints. They did not see the fulfilment or understand how God was going to accomplish this, but they believed that GOd would do as He said. This was what God took into account - their faith IN HIM! What do you have faith in? Let's start there. Blessings, mommapbs |

29 | How to "win the world" ? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 105319
Greetings Larry! My this is an old post of mine, and yet I am still struggling with all of this. The "sanctuary" is now called an auditorium and the platfrom from which the Gospel is to be preached is called a stage. There are curtains for performances and places for a myriad of props. The orchestra has center stage and there is no cross in sight. If you walked into this facility, would you know you were in the house of God? Yes, I agree it is the people who make up the church, but a show of hands does not mean that souls are being saved and lived changed . . . especially since very few, if any, show up for a "discipleship class." I'm with Brian McClaren on this point, conversion is more than getting people's "butts into heaven" (From "A New Kind of Christian"). Programming is paramount and numbers are more important than names. Is this what post-modern Christianity is becoming? - Come quickly, Lord Jesus! Longing for a return to humility and reverence . . . mommapbs PS:Building The Church (pbs '01) Rick Joyner, in "shadows of things to come," explores the history of the church and urges us to learn from the mistakes of the past as we contemplate the future. He challenges us to examine our purposes as a body of believers. “We cannot try to build the church of God upon charismatic preachers, regardless of how true their preaching is or how great their gifts. The true church will only be built upon the one Foundation, Jesus Christ Himself. We should always ask the question, ‘Why are people coming to our churches?’ Is it because they agree with our doctrine? Is it because of our dynamic ministry? Is it because of our facilities? Our music? Or is it because the Lord Jesus Himself is in our midst, and we are all being joined in Him?” What are we building? Or, is perhaps the right question, WHO is being built? After the “building” is complete, what will we see - a façade, a facility or a Foundation? From the beginning of the early church to present day revivals, Mr. Joyner reminds us of the necessity to adhere to the Biblical pattern that God has established for His people: Prayer. God’s people prayed. There was no organization or “plan,” for programs do not move the Hand of God - prayer does! Prayer prepares the hearts of the individual members of the body of Christ. This process involves a humbling and a repentance that is individual as well as corporate. God tells us what we must do before He can begin to lay His Foundation upon which He will build His church. The ground must be prepared. It must be Holy. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 Sin does not reside in a building, but it often hides in a believer. We can tear down walls and rebuild, but we are powerless to eradicate the real hindrance to growth – sin in the church. Too many people confuse the church as a place rather than the living body of Christ on this planet. We must recognize that no ministry is sufficient to build the church; this is a work of God alone. As the Lord transforms our hearts and builds His church in and through us, we will find that no edifice or program will be able to contain the outpouring of the Spirit that accompanies this construction! The “if we build it they will come” mentality is inappropriate for the church when God is truly the architect and builder! Joyner reminds us that a baby is not birthed by the labor, but rather the labor is caused by the presence of the baby. God desires to build His church within us. The seed of Christ has been planted. As believers, we must nurture this kernel within ourselves and encourage one another to “grow up in Him.” If we attend to building the spiritual walls first, all future construction (physical as well!) will be a reflection of Christ, the true church. BTW, my chuch has a weekly prayer mtg. 5-6 people regularly attend - and our "church" attendence is over 1,000! |

Hank you are ringing my chimes! I have been so upset with the call from the pulpit and other leaders to bring the lost to church! Amen - we are the church and we should take it to them! Lost folks need to see the authenticity of CHRIST in the lives of folks they KNOW, not some charismatic preacher who puts on a dog and pony show under the guise of the gospel. Harsh words? Maybe, but you really struck a nerve tonight! Blessings and thanks for the hinge! mommapbs |

Good Morning Searcher56 - You have observed some important points; I also liked your reply to Larry. I agree, we have made the Lord "user friendly" with the emphasis on "user." This disturbs me, for I perceive a lack of understanding of God's AWESOME HOLINESS in our midst. As I consider this, the love of God and the forgivness I have in Christ becomes even MORE AMAZING! We deprive people of this when we make Jesus too "familiar." Can one really worship a friend? Is God our friend? (I'll post this as a question) As I see it, there is a big problem with the lack of discipleship in many churches. The result of an encounter with Jesus should produce a changed life - we should see the body functioning as God designed it - each one using his/her gifts for mutual edification. 1 Cor 14:12 Sadly, as you have observed, some "gifts" are deemed more important than others . . . Prov 19:26 Blessings on your day! mommapbs |

Great verses Kalos, indeed we can be friends of God, but is HE ever called OUR friend? I struggling a bit with the "familiarity" we seem to bring into our relationship with God as opposed to intimacy.

Greetings Larry - last I looked, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." (Gal 3:28)No aplogy needed! Welcome to the Forum. Brother Hank aksed that you consider enlightening us "old timers" a bit - please go to "update user information" (under Resources to the left) and fill out your personal profile. This helps us understand and get to know one another a bit more here in cyber churchspace! As far as "preaching" goes, that is not my calling! But I do endeavor to use the gifts that God has blessed me with to edify and encourage the body, as well as those who perhaps are not yet of the body who God places in my life. I'm glad that you are in a place where intimacy is promoted. My church "seems" to be blessed of God, but for how long is the question. Right now, discipleship is taking back seat to numbers, programs and facilities. Prayer has been relegated to the basement of a building - but each time I go, I am encouraged and blessed as I enter the presence of the King with other dear saints. Prayer matters; it moves the heart of God. A far as expounding on "intimacy" with God - either you know about Him or you KNOW Him . . . "Thus says the LORD, 'Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,' declares the LORD." Welcome to the Forum Brian! Your observations are indeed reflective of the "American Church!" Yes, it is sad to see us attacking one another. But this is just another reminder of how the world has influenced the church instead of the other way around.(Romans 12:2) I trust that you will be blessed by our discussions and continue to contribute your insight into God's Word and His activity in our midst. EdB, you wrote, "Churches will go to most any measure to draw more people in but in most cases they do not have resources in place to disciple them once they do come in." AMEN! Presently, my church has grown in NUMBER by about 20 percent. We have outgrown our present facility and are building a HUGE "worship center" nearby to accomodate this "growth." But as you note, there is little or no vehicle in place to disciple all that enter in. We have "small groups" BUT, these tightly controlled, they are "arranged" and "programmed" just like our morning "worship" services. As you can see, I'm a tad bit discouraged. . . but there is hope, for the top item on our prayer list for the body is DISCIPLESHIP! Everything starts with prayer; so I know I am in the right place there! mommapbs |

This phrase is used repeatedly throughout Scripture. It is not referring to the physical sense of hearing, but rather refers to spiritual perception. God's Word is not understood apart from the Spirit. Without the Spirit we are unable to "hear," with the Spirit we are ABLE, but often if we are to "hear" we must also CHOOSE to listen. See 1 Cor 2. I hope this helps. Blessings, mommapbs |
