1 | Acts 12:11 | Acts 12:11 | Rowdy | 142444
From the context just a couple of verses previous, Acts 12:9 And he went out and continued to follow, and he did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. It seems that Peter wasn't fully awake or something like that. So in, verse 11 Peter is fully aware of what has just happened. There's not a whole lot more information given. God bless, Rowdy |

2 | Was Job right and his friends wrong? | Job | Rowdy | 141884
The main point of the Book of Job is God's message to all of mankind about how He wants us to look at the tragedies and all the pain and suffering of this world. In a nutshell, God gave us an Absolute Perfect world and all of us messed it up and we've done it now at least twice with the advent of the worldwide flood. God wants us to grow up and see that we're just sojourners in this physical world and to learn to prefer His World of the Spiritual in His Home in Heaven. BUT we MUST wait until He calls us to that Home. Until that time, we must live here on earth, dying to sin, living for Christ and realize the gain when we die. That's part of the refining process Peter refers to in his epistle. Naturally, that also means we are here to shine God's Love, His Word and His Will through our lives to others in this world. Hope this helps. God bless. Rowdy |

3 | Can the Hubble measure the universe? | Jer 31:37 | Rowdy | 141883
Response to the two main points of your post: 1. I'm just now reading a very interesting book, edited by John F. Ashton, PhD. The title: "In Six Days." The subtitle: Why 50 Scientists Choose to Believe in Creation. It's quite powerful as all 50 of these scientists have PhDs in their respective science AND they're not just "flunkies" rejected by the science community. Each one has made major contributions to the science community and is quite successful in his/her own world. The 50 different sciences cover the whole spectrum from Astronomy to Zoology and everything in between. (The book even addresses the subject related to Information or Computer Science.) It's divided into 2 main sections: the first dealing with Science and Origins and the second dealing with Religion and Origins. You might also benefit by checking out the website, www.apologeticspress.org by Dr. Bert Thompson. 2. There are a multitude of scriptures in the Bible that speak to this rather difficult topic of the "End of Times" but the most powerful AND overriding statement is from our Lord Himself. Jesus says that the ultimate end of the world will come upon the world like a thief in the night and thus no one will know when that might be. I don't think no one will even come close to guessing when this might happen. I'm convinced we spend far too much time dwelling and discussing this subject. It doesn't really add anything to the whole of Christianity. Most often it causes bad feeling and much confusion for most of the people who do spend their time with this topic. I do hope my words here encourage you to seek other more useful and productive topics. God bless. Rowdy |

4 | how was joshua able to stay faithful | Joshua | Rowdy | 133891
I can only answer your latter question with the following verses. Josh 24:14 "Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15 "If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." If you really want to know the whole life of Joshua, re-read the book with name. If you just want a brief summary, Chapter 24 is pretty good, given by Joshua himself. Hope this helps and God bless. 5 | Are we too dull to understand the Bible? | Heb 6:1 | Rowdy | 133690
I thought of another response to your post while I was eating lunch, because your harsh words weigh very heavily on my mind. Have you ever considered how the prophets of God felt when they received the kind of chastisements such as your's above? One of the worst treatments was Jer 38:6 Then they took Jeremiah and cast him into the cistern of Malchijah the king's son, which was in the court of the guardhouse; and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. Now in the cistern there was no water but only mud, and Jeremiah sank into the mud. I'm sure you know the scriptures at least as well as I do if not better. I indicated a similar statement to Hank and meant every word of it. This controversy on this subject has been raging for centuries so I just count myself blessed to be in the same crowd with Jeremiah and all the other prophets. I will continue to pray for all of you. God bless. Rowdy |

6 | Are we too dull to understand the Bible? | Heb 6:1 | Rowdy | 133661
Dear Kalos, my friend I'm sorry that you seem to be interpreting my posts in such a way. I don't really think I'm portraying such messages but I'm always willing to discuss specifics. If you'll identify the particulars, I'll do my best to respond. It sounds like you have quite a list, do it may take me a while. Could you break down the quantity maybe to a couple or three per post? I'm constantly re-evaluating my posts and my positions in an attempt to make sure that they're in agreement with either the specific Words from the Bible OR the obvious intent behind the Spirit of the Bible's position on a particular topic. But I must admit, I knew this topic of baptism would be a sensitive one to most folks. And the only reason I'm so stubborn about this issue is because it seems to be widely misunderstood by a good many people. Finally, I'd be literally the very last person in the world to reflect the image of not making a mistake. I've made far more than my fair share of mistakes, both in my life and on this Forum. So for those mistakes, I'll apologize to you and to whomever else I need to apologize. But I can't apologize for God's requirement about our getting into His Family. As I've mentioned many times before, this issue of baptism is very important to Him, just as circumcision was very important between Him and the Israelite nation. I hope very much to continue our dialouge on this subject only to get everyone as much as possible INTO the Family of God so we can ALL go to Heaven together, as our Lord prayed. Looking forward to your response and asking for your patience. God bless. Rowdy PS: Were you able to find an example of a Godly person in the Bible who was able to please God with belief only to the exclusion of obedience to His Commands, His Terms and Conditions, in any dispensation? I'd certainly like to discuss this with you. |

7 | A reason for the confusion in the world | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 133645
I can only respond with the words of Jesus for He foretold of these kinds of things in our world. Matt 24:6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. Mark 13:7 "When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end. In contrast we must read on for in Matt 11:29 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. and from the OT: 2 Chr 13:18 Thus the sons of Israel were subdued at that time, and the sons of Judah conquered because they trusted in the LORD, the God of their fathers. 2 Chr 14:11 Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, "LORD, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O LORD our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; let not man prevail against You." 2 Chr 20:20 They rose early in the morning and went out to the wilderness of Tekoa; and when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, O Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, put your trust in the LORD your God and you will be established. Put your trust in His prophets and succeed." Ps 25:2 O my God, in You I trust, Do not let me be ashamed; Do not let my enemies exult over me. Ps 31:14 But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD, I say, "You are my God." Ps 40:3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the LORD. Ps 52:7 "Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But trusted in the abundance of his riches And was strong in his evil desire." Ps 52:8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever. Ps 55:23 But You, O God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction; Men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days. But I will trust in You. Ps 56:4 In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me? Ps 56:11 In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? Ps 62:8 Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. I hope these scriptures will give you the courage to face these perils we all face together. God bless. Rowdy |

8 | Isn't 24 more than one? | Acts 2:38 | Rowdy | 133460
I can only put it to you like it was put to me as a student. The single one place in the Bible where it discusses faith alone is in James 2:24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. Now I'd be the last person in the world to propose that we can earn our way to Heaven BUT as I've stated plainly there's simply no way a person can prove that one can go to Heaven by simply BELIEVING in God and not prove it. God is going to be looking for His Seal of Approval, Proof that we really have taken on the Lord, His Son in baptism. Gal 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Col 2:11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, I may not quote 24 verses to counter your 24 but all I need is one as that's all that God will need on Judgment Day. So why don't you tell me. Since we could quote scriptures to each other all day, what are we going to do? Which side of this controversial fence would you want to take a chance and make a mistake since there's so many verses on this subject? You see, the negative side of the two verses above would be rendered as follows: For as many of you as have NOT been baptized into Christ have NOT put on Christ. In Him you were NOT circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by NOT putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by NOT being circumcised of Christ, I haven't done it yet but I'd like to think a similar action could be done to the 85 other verses that talk about baptism. Insert the word NOT into those respective verses and see if it makes sense with the end result of salvation. It seems impossible that it would. Now, of course the negative of your 24 verses would also be true. If a person does NOT believe, of course he's NOT going to be baptised or even be interested in being saved. So what is the more conservative or safer position to take with you to Judgment Day? I noticed you didn't address the fact that the devil believes in God and yet it's clear and plain that he's not going to Heaven. How do you plan to distinguish yourself from the devil on Judgment Day? I do hope you can see the logic in all this. God bless. Rowdy |

9 | your understanding of zechariah chptr 11 | Zechariah | Rowdy | 133222
I just re-read it. To me it sounds a rather harsh lament over the loss of the Israelite nation by our Lord. Toward the latter portion of the chapter, I believe if I'm not mistaken there's a prophecy about Judas' coming betrayal for 30 pieces of silver and the potter's field where he was buried. When one thinks about it, it's kinda amazing that the scribes and leaders of the Israelites didn't pick up on all these prophecies...as they were being fulfilled. But there again, we probably would NOT have done any better. What special item or question did you wish submit under the microscope for discussion? God bless. Rowdy |

10 | Is Bush a Willful Violator of Rom 13? | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 133211
Copied for reference: Rom 13:1 Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. 3 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; 4 for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. 5 Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience' sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. I would have to say this rather serious question warrants a careful evaluation. After doing such careful thinking, I can't agree with the "modern interpretation" from Mr. Ehud, if indeed that is true. Remember the then modern writers of the KJV (16th century) misinterpreted the word baptizo for King James to allow his abuse of its original meaning. With respect to Rom 13, it should be said that our President is NOT under the subjection of the UN as we DON'T pay taxes to this organization. We contribute to its on-going operation and maintenance but if we decide to stop that contribution, they do NOT have the authority to require it of us. That's what the Declaration of Independence was all about, remember? Yes, my friend I agree that President Bush has made mistakes, maybe even some major flubs and sometimes he does sound like a cowboy but that's probably because he is one...from Texas, no less. So I find myself in support of him as he is far more a Godly man than his immediate predessesor whom I won't even name. I served in the military under him and lost ALL respect for him. Sorry, but I just had to throw in my two cents' worth. God bless all who love our country and will assist in turning her around back again to true devotion to being a Godly nation. Rowdy |

11 | Can unbelievers pray to God? | Prov 28:9 | Rowdy | 133195
In addition, I found the following: Prov 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But the prayer of the upright is His delight. Prov 15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous. God's Word seems to be clear on this point. I realize it's not what most people want to hear but we dare not think He'll contradict His own Words. God bless. Rowdy |

12 | should i be part of a ministry? | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 133193
I would respond with scripture 1 Tim 6:17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed. This is some of the positive motivation and now for the other side, the Lord does give us some negative to motivate us from: James 4:17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin. Christ Jesus puts it like this Luke 9:23 And He was saying to them all, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. 27 "Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. I don't think God could have been any more clear. We can call this working for the Master, working in His vineyard, doing good deeds, call it almost anything you like. All I know is it's NOT an option and this guidance applies to everyone who really wants to go to Heaven. I prefer to call what I'm doing for the Lord my ministry of service to Him. I'll be the first to admit we're all tempted to take a vacation now and again. We're even tempted to think at some point, we've earned a retirement but then I look again at the examples from God's Word, especially His Son, our Lord and King and then I feel ashamed. I hope this helps in your resolve to be obedient. God bless. Rowdy |

14 | God's Name in the New Testament | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 132602
The only thing I can think of is to remind about the fact that God gave His Son all authority in Matt 28 to rule this world during this dispensation. This is further endorsed in Col 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19 For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. I hope this helps and God bless. Rowdy |

15 | How can I show the Bible is truth? | John 14:6 | Rowdy | 132539
The best suggestion I can offer to you is the website www.apologeticspress.org. There, Dr. Bert Thompson and his staff put together a wide array of publications summarizing and describing in detail evidences in support of God's Word and Christianity in general. Some of these evidences are based both on Bible and God's world. Dr. Thompson draws logical conclusions from science, archeology and almost every other facet of life. I've used some of his publications in a recent class with in our congregation on Sunday morning adult class. Dr. Thompson even organizes his lessons on Christian Evidences into three different levels: for beginners, intermediate and advanced. I used the intermediate and they were great. But I do need to be honest with you: They do get a little technical, some more than others so some folks might be blown away by all the educated sound of it all. And finally they DON'T answer EVERY single question with absolute authority as God does expect us to use our intellect to some extent but ultimately He wants us to accept Him and His Word on faith. I hope you find the website as useful as I have. God bless. Rowdy |

16 | What is your opinion on this? | 1 Cor 7:19 | Rowdy | 132196
In addition to the post you've already received with good guidance, to your rather difficult situation, I would respond with the following: Acts 16:1 Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. And a disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek, 2 and he was well spoken of by the brethren who were in Lystra and Iconium. 3 Paul wanted this man to go with him; and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. Here we see Paul has Timothy, his beloved son in the faith circumcised so that he could win over some of the Jews to the christian faith. On the other hand, he strongly defends Titus' decision NOT to be circumcised. The overriding principle is stated in Col 3:11. Remember, Paul was willing, as much as possible without compromise of God's Will, "to be all things to all people so as to win some to the cause of Christ." Timothy was following the guidance of his mentor, Apostle Paul so as to continue this tradition of leading many to Christ. But Paul's main point according to Col 3:11 is that a person should NOT and CANNOT require another human being to be circumcised or NOT to be circumcised. It's the individual's choice, as demonstrated by Timothy and Titus, both of whom were acceptable to God. I hope this is clear and God bless. Rowdy |

19 | Romans 6:4 sanctification or salvation? | Rom 6:4 | Rowdy | 131467
It seems to me that all of these features of christianity are bestowed upon those when they choose to submit to Christ as their Lord and Master. Baptism does seem to be the final step to put one in God's family but process of sanctification or "working out one's salvation" just starts at this point. We must see ourselves as eventually graduating from the milk of the Word and growing so as to understanding the tougher issues in God's Word. We also must see ourselves adding to our Christian nature the Armor of God, the Fruits of the Spirit and imitating the christians of the first century by bestowing acts of kindness to all on whom we come into contact like Christ our Lord. Of course eventually, we learn to avoid both the sin of commission as well as the sin of ommission and strive to gain a closer relationship with God by teaching as we're gifted to do so. We should learn to take up our cross, adopt a ministry as we see a need in our own community of christians. And of course, everyone knows we can never "retire" from Christianity until we die, Rev 2:10. I hope this helps and God bless. Rowdy |

20 | promise of family to thousand generation | John 3:16 | Rowdy | 131421
This subject of salvation has been hotly debated all the years of this Forum and for many, many centuries before, and will most likely continue to be debated till the ending of the world. You can see my posts on the subject by inserting the words Rowdy and salvation into the Quick Search of the upper right corner of your screen. I would like to remind you on that fateful Judgment Day, we'll ALL be judged by the sum total of all the words found in the NT as spoken by Jesus and His official representatives, His beloved Apostles. So that means whatever directives and actions they gave and followed when it involved remission of sins or some related topic, we should consider following. For starters, I would add to Hank's citations, the following: Matt 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." The first Gospel sermmon is good for guidance Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?" 38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 "For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself." There are other steps to salvation but this is enough to get started. Hope this helps and God bless. Rowdy |
