21 | What extra insight does this chp provide | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 131347
For context: 1 Cor 5:1 It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father's wife. 1 Cor 5:2 You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst. 1 Cor 5:3 For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present. 1 Cor 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, 1 Cor 5:5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 1 Cor 5:6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? 1 Cor 5:7 Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed. 1 Cor 5:8 Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 1 Cor 5:9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; 1 Cor 5:10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. 1 Cor 5:11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one. 1 Cor 5:12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? 1 Cor 5:13 But those who are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES. We can infer a lot from the OT. Throughout that dispensation, the Lord instructed the Israelite nation to maintain a pure bloodline so as to produce the Son of God. Now there were several exceptions, like Ruth and Rahab but these exceptions were blessed by God to show us demonstrations of His wonderful Love and Grace. But my main point here is back to "mainenance of God's purity" in God's familly regardless of the dispensation. God is the very epitomy of Love, Perfect Justice and above all total separation from anything that represents any semblance of sin. So God wants us, his children to come Home to Him but he must get us transformed to sinless beings. It's a refining process, as described in several places in the NT, Rev 3:18 and others. First God must get us used to the idea of doing without sin in our lives here on earth. Then with His Assistance and Grace, he is able to graduate our beings from this existance to the next, Heaven for an eternity. On the other hand, if we allow sin "to infiltrate the camp" as in the example Achan in the Israelite family, then we endanger the whole group. One of the main jobs of the elders in a congregation of christians is to maintain this purity of God's family as cited in Acts 20:28-30. The procedure for maintaining this kind of discipline is found in Matt 18:15-20. It's a serious job, one that must be approached with much humility and love for that sinful party so he will repent and turn from his wicked ways. Hope this helps and God bless. Rowdy |

22 | does one need to be baptised to be saved | John 3:5 | Rowdy | 130279
I'm sure by now you know you're going to be getting a lot of responses to your question and mine is numbered 129827. Just put that no in the QuickSearch in the upper right corner of your screen. But the most important response you'll get is the Lord's response on Judgment Day. He'll be judging all of us by how well we've obeyed His Words in our Bibles. God bless your continued study of God's Word. Rowdy |

I would agree with you whole heartedly. God has made it amazingly simple and straight forward but there are a few people with different opinions on the subject. I would refer you to another thread. You can see my Post No 128036. Let me know if you wish to discuss. God bless. Rowdy
24 | Order of occurance | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 128036
I've been watching the growth of this thread and have been reading the posts with interest but I noticed there seems to be a couple of items missing. I realize I'm not going to be in agreement with a few of you but I would like to throw in my two cents' worth. I only want to put as much emphasis on this point as the Lord has done in His Word. In my mind, baptism is every bit as important a step in this Process of Salvation as any other. We see many examples of God's Gift of Salvation given to several different people throughout the NT but the best examples are in Acts, one of them being at the establishment of the church in Acts 2. First we see the "convicting the sinner" upon their hearing the Gospel Message, that Christ is the Son of God and that He died for our sins, being the Perfect Sacrifice and Ransom for our souls. Next we see their faith and repentance after they ask Peter what should they do. The next step also seems to be missing since we want to be thorough and "cover all the bases." That is confessing that Jesus is indeed the Son of God like Peter did in Matt 16:16 and Paul describes in Rom 10:9. Next in Acts 2:38, we see how important it is to be baptized for the remission of our sins. I would compare this act to that of Naaman in the story of his healing from leporsy, 2 Kings, Chapter 5. We see that Naaman didn't get what he was looking for until AFTER he dipped himself in the River Jordan a full seven times. Of course it didn't sense and he said as much. He had much cleaner rivers in his own country. And what about the business of being dipped seven times? What possible logic could be in such a silly requirement? Where's the power and majesty of God Almighty in that? Don't you see, that's God's point!! He showed off His power and majesty with the creation of this universe. Now, He wants us to show off our humility and total submission to His Will, His Terms and Conditions of His Son's Last Will and Testament. Now Regeneration is a different matter. That would come AFTER generation which is done by God. According to Titus 3, "washing, renewing and regeneration" is a process that God performs on us as His children. We see this process a little clearer in 1 Jn 1. You see we can't have any part in this process, this is all God's doing. That's NOT to say that we don't have our part...we do as cited in Phil 2:12. We must "work out our salvation with fear and trembling." What work must we perform? We must imitate Paul and all the other fine examplels we see in the NT as cited in 1 Cor 11:1. We shouldn't look at this as if we could earn our way to Heaven for Paul says Rom 8:12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors--not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. I do hope all of this is clear, but as always, I'm interested in your response. God bless. Rowdy |

25 | love the Lord with all your soul? | Matt 22:37 | Rowdy | 127511
Basically just like it sounds. To love without any reservation, not to withhold anything from him. To some folks across the ocean, this means giving up ties to family and sometimes even their country. Many, many people lose everything, including ALL possessions, their identity, their citizenship, all hope for success in their present world. With submission to Christ, they must accept starting all over again. Yes, this is a terrible cost and Jesus predicted that some people would have to make such a sacrifice when He talked of strife between family members and the tremendous costs as cited in Lk 14:26-33. So you see, we in America have a tremendous debt of gratitude to our fore fathers, from each of our previous generations. God bless America and all of you. Rowdy |

26 | Scriptural Support? | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 126110
The whole book of Hebrews goes into this subject quite a bit. Its main purpose is to contrast the superiority of the christianity over that of the Law of Moses and Judiasm. One of the Book's main tenents is that you and I are NOW able to approach God directly through Jesus, His Son whereas before in Judiasm, the Jews had to go through their High Priest and he didn't know very much and couldn't answer most of their questions. Now God deals directly with His children like I stated and we can pray directly to Him in the name of Jesus Christ. Now, you and I know we're not going to find the specific words as you mention above. God expects us to study His Word and figure SOME things on our own. But clearly through His Word, we can also see that in today's world there is no one performing miracles anywhere even close to the kind of miracles in the Bible. Hope this helps to clarify and God bless. Rowdy |

27 | I Tim 2:12 Paul's opinion or God's Word? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Rowdy | 123333
Just to give this thread a little more balance toward women, I should remind everyone of a few basic facts. Ocassionally, our God did shine His "light of approval" and showcased some of the women in the Bible for our examples. The most prominent I can think of was 1) Deborah as Judge of the Isrealite people, leading her people through some perilous times. 2) Esther as Queen who saved her whole country from destruction in a rather spectacular demonstration of heroic courage. 3) Ruth who showed an incredible amount of love devotion to her mother in law even when it meant leaving the only world she ever knew, her country and her fellow citizens. 4) Pricillia w/her husband Aquilla hosted Apollos and taught him more perfectly the Gospel of the Lord. 5) Phoebe who graciously acted as a courier between Paul and his beloved "children of faith" throughout Asia Minor. So you see, God does have a great amount of respect for the women in our world and His. We as men should follow His example, counting it an honor when one of them agrees to be our wife and partner for life...and keep us guys out of trouble and jail. God bless. --Rowdy |

28 | What is the answer to this question? | Luke 20:4 | Rowdy | 123330
I would have to say the act itself was probably started by Jewish custom but linking it to a Godly purpose such as repentance was His idea. In my mind, baptism is a complete show of total submission. Most people don't relish the idea of coming out of a baptistry completely wet; it's rather embarassing, especially to come out and hug everyone but that's the point. It's a humbling process that we all must go through if we truly want to go to Heaven. I can't think of a verse that specifically answers this question so I'll just submit my opinion. God bless. --Rowdy |

29 | knowledge of good and evil | Gen 3:1 | Rowdy | 123329
Upon thinking about this discussion and all of its import, I also have to say the following. This first ocassion of disobedience of God's strict instructions is certainly a reflection of the sinful nature of human kind. You might say, it's basic in our nature to "set our own course" or "have our own way." I realize this might sound like a reversal of my previous statement but I guess it's a little confusing like when a parent first starts slaps a two year old's hand for touching things that the parent doesn't want touched. The child has no clue as to why. All he/she knows if he touches it, he experiences pain. So slowly but surely, the child learns right and wrong. I hope this helps and doesn't confuse the issue. Regardless, God bless. --Rowdy |

30 | knowledge of good and evil | Gen 3:1 | Rowdy | 123327
Naturally I assume you're referring to Adam and Eve and I would have to conclude from the first two chapters that they DO NOT have such knowledge. I guess they could be compared to a small child before he has learned about right and wrong. We notice that God is on a very intimate, face-to-face basis of relationship with them, therefore there is no trace of sin in their lives prior to this point. Seem pretty straight forward to me. Is there any question in your mind about their condition? God bless. --Rowdy |

31 | HOW to renew mind | Rom 12:2 | Rowdy | 123325
I'd say the following verses would be a good start Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. 9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- 19and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. The actual process of putting this guidance above from God into our lives as His children should keep your mind pretty actively engaged for quite a while. I hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

32 | Connection between Daniel 9:11 and US? | Dan 9:11 | Rowdy | 123320
This is really the most preposterous idea I've seen in a long while. Hopefully, you are aware that division of the Bible into chapter and verses didn't take place until late in the Medevil Period of the world, possibly as late as the 1300s. That's thousands of years after Daniel was written. No, my friend, whatever possible link between the attack in NY City date and the Bible is purely coincidental. For example: Why would you want to limit to Daniel? Why not Isaiah or Revelation? Sorry, but I do hope you don't waste most of your time looking for this kind trivial trash, do you? God bless. --Rowdy |

33 | I Tim 2:12 Paul's opinion or God's Word? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Rowdy | 123255
Like you say, when Paul is giving guidance that is only coming from him WITHOUT the Holy Spirit's sponsoring, he says so very clearly but in the Epistle to Timothy, he's very plain and straight forward. There's no room for interpretation. 1 Tim 2:9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15 But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. I realize this is one of the reasons why so many folks, especially our ladies think Paul was chavenistic in his thinking but we must remember, it wasn't Paul but it's God that's giving these commands. God is doing here the same He's done throughout the whole Bible. Women have always "taken the back seat" or "played second fiddle" in God's World. He made women the weaker vessel and he made the men of the world to take the lead in all things, especially those in the spiritual world, including His Son's church and the worship assemblies. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

34 | Hindered Prayer / wall of sin | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 123248
It sounds to me as if both of you are fairly mature and you probably know the scriptures fairly well. I would suggest both of you going to a large christian bookstore and both of you pick out books on your favorite subject. In this case, I would assume both of you would pick out books on prayer but the key here is for both of you to spend some time together and read the books, one chapter at a time. I would suggest your taking turns reading aloud, one to the other and then discuss what you like best about that chapter. Eventually, you will discover the scripture you're looking for but more importantly you'll re-discover how important prayer is to a Godly couple such as yourselves. I say this because when my wife and I went through Marriage Encounter, it was one of the best things we ever did for our marriage and this technique was taught there. I sincerely hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

35 | who can explain to me? | John 1:1 | Rowdy | 123220
From grammatical viewpoint, the only way to understand this concept is to acknowledge that Jesus IS God. He IS the Word of God and He (Jesus) came to this earth to live and die among us mankind so He could emphathize with His Father's creation as High Priest of this dispensation. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

36 | sermon ideas for preaching rev.2:18-29 | Revelation | Rowdy | 123200
I myself haven't preached on this subject but I heard a sermon on this topic but the preacher covered all 7 letters just briefly. His position with which I agree was that all 7 letters represent in a broad general manner all of the different responses from our Lord to all the many different congregations throughout all of time, past, present and future. From this one letter, one can only point out the obvious warning against idolatry and false teaching. One should also emphasize staying faithful to our first love, Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of His beloved church, His bride. Rev 2:18 "And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze, says this: 19 'I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first. 20 'But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 'I gave her time to repent, and she does not want to repent of her immorality. 22 'Behold, I will throw her on a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds. 23 'And I will kill her children with pestilence, and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds. 24 'But I say to you, the rest who are in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not known the deep things of Satan, as they call them--I place no other burden on you. 25 'Nevertheless what you have, hold fast until I come. 26 'He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, TO HIM I WILL GIVE AUTHORITY OVER THE NATIONS; 27 AND HE SHALL RULE THEM WITH A ROD OF IRON, AS THE VESSELS OF THE POTTER ARE BROKEN TO PIECES, as I also have received authority from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star. 29 'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.' I would go ahead and preach what the Lord has to say about the other six churches. In one way or another, we all can see ourselves as individuals or as congregations and apply the instructions as needed. Sometimes this involves taking heed of the instructions from one or more and act accordingly. I take great comfort in the fact that these first 3 chapters of Revelation is not filled with so much figurative symbolism and we can take these letters to the 7 churches (congregations) to heart. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

37 | How did Pharoah die? In the book of Ex. | Exodus | Rowdy | 123140
I'm afraid the Exodus record is not clear as it does NOT specifically say that Pharaoh died in the Red Sea but thanks be to God, the Psalms are a little more clear as follows Ps 136:13 To Him who divided the Red Sea asunder, For His lovingkindness is everlasting, 14 And made Israel pass through the midst of it, For His lovingkindness is everlasting; 15 But He overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, For His lovingkindness is everlasting. Aren't search engines a wonderful thing. I, too never knew this passage was in the Psalms. Praise the Lord and God bless. --Rowdy |

39 | Where does membership come from? | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 123115
There are other scriptures but one of the most specific and instructive is Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. It's a proven fact, many, many times over that generally speaking most people need encouragement to be faithful to any cause, especially one like ours to Christ as our Lord and Master. Even if you're so incredibly strong that you don't need your brothers and sisters to keep you that way, you have no authority to deprive your local family of christians from sharing in your strengths and talents. We all have an ocassional tough week and need to be re-charged by those that know us and read our troubles in our faces and the way we walk. No, believe me, dear friend there's no substitute for a congregation with good, close fellowship. Try re-reading the Book of Acts and re-discover how valuable fellowship was in the first century. Then a person could cite all the passages in the Bible with the famous "one another" phrase...there are dozens of them. You simply CANNOT fully please God Almighty by yourself, it's literally impossible. I hope this helps and God bless. |

40 | why is mark's writings different | Mark | Rowdy | 123113
Could you be a little more specific with reference to these differences as you see them? Most people point out John as being the "different" Gospel account as there are so many similarities among the other three. As a matter of fact, that's the main reason for the "Harmony of the Gospels" in the back of most Bibles. Awaiting your response with a little more information. God bless. --Rowdy |
