Greetings all, It’s funny how things change after so many posts. The question had to do with if speaking in tongues were needed for Salvation, which we all agree the answer is an emphatic NO. If I may add to this discussion on Baptism: Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized--Baptism is here put for the external signature of the inner faith of the heart, just as "confessing with the mouth" is in Rom 10:10 ; “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” and there also as here this outward manifestation, once mentioned as the proper fruit of faith, is not repeated in what follows in Romans 10:11 “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” JFB We hold that persons are not saved by baptism, for we think, first of all that it seems out of character with the spiritual religion which Christ came to teach, that he should make salvation depend upon mere ceremony” Charles Spurgeon Baptism is important but has nothing to do with the saving of your soul but is a testimony of ones faith. Acts 8:12 “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women” Notice here that they “believed” first in the name of Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:5 “Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)” Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;” To the woman who washed anointed and kissed Jesus’ feet, Jesus said to her Luke 7:48 “And he said unto her, ‘Thy sins are forgiven’” Luke 7:50 “And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.” Jesus did not command her to go and get baptized to finish her Salvation. Acts 16:31 “They said, Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 6:40 "For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day." Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” KJV Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” John 11: 25-26 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?" John 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God John 3:14-15 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 20:31 “but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. I noticed just before posting this Tim had posted with some of the same verses that I have here but I left them anyway :-) Love in Christ bgg |

continued.... Yes we must do all that the Lord has commanded including being baptised or as Jesus said we are worshiping Him in Vain! Matthew 15 9And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men And Jesus said, Mark 16 15And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned And that is exactly what the Apostles did on the Day of Pentacost. They preached the Gospel to them and they said Acts 2 37Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" 38Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit 41Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them and later we read that the Lord is the one who adds to the church. Verse 47 "And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved." No matter how hard anyone trys to take baptism out of salvation you still can't do it. Baptism is the thorn in the side of denominationalism. It always has been and always will be. Jesus said John 15 18 "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Just as God set up Laws in the Old Testement to live by the New Testment is our Law and its the only Law. No wonder Jesus said Matthew 7 13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Raven, You have done an admirable job on this thread. You certainly have more endurance than me. I fear the issue will never resolve with any convincing the other. I will end only by referring to that great Epistle of faith, Romans: "through him we have received the apsoltleship, to bring about the obedience of faith, for the sake of his name among the Gentiles." Romans 1:5 and "but now manifested through the prophetic writings and. accodring to the command of the eternal God, made known to all tha nations, to bring about the obedience of faith, to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ be glory forevere and ever. Amen." Romans 16:26-27 And a few other verse to consider in this matter. Matt. 28:18-20 18: And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20: teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age." Col 2:11-12 11: In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of flesh in the circumcision of Christ; 12: and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. Ex 4:24-26 24: At a lodging place on the way the LORD met him and sought to kill him. 25: Then Zippo'rah took a flint and cut off her son's foreskin, and touched Moses' feet with it, and said, "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me!" 26: So he let him alone. Then it was that she said, "You are a bridegroom of blood," because of the circumcision. Romans 6:3-4 3: Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4: We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
