Bible Question:
Is there anywhere in the Bible where it says that if you do not speak in tongues that you are not saved? I have a co-worker who is adament about the fact that you're not saved if you don't speak in tongues and I would really like to help her because she is very confused. |
Bible Answer: Hello Nedra, No! And ask this person to show you where speaking in tongues saves us. The bible says obediance to the Gospel and the culminating act of baptism saves us 1 Peter 3:21 There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, I am sure she can not show such a scripture. Also read 1 Cor chapter 13 and 14. Chapter 13 says that tongues will cease along with other miracles when that which is perfect comes. That which is perfect is the bible. You see they needed signs and prophsey back then because they did not have the completed revelation of the bible. This is the only way God comunicates with us today is thru the bible. Not in a room with a bunch of people spitting out gibrish that nobody can understand. Read ch 14 also, this says that if the words which are spoken cannot be easily understood it profits no one and their just talking in the air. And verse 27-33 says that only 2 not more than 3 should speak in tongues and then only one at a time and even then there must be an interpreter or they are to keep silent. And theres not a single one of these people that claim they have the gift of tongues keeps this verse. They all start babeling at the same time and none of them knows what the other is saying, thus no one becomes edified like the bible says is the purpose and so they might as well just throw the bible out the door! Nobody today can speak in a different tongue. If they as they say have been touched by the Holy Spirit then why can they not speak in another language, one that we know about and not just baby talk. Because that is what speaking in a different tongue is. Read Acts 2, the Day of Pentacost. All the apostles were there and verse 5 says: "And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven" and 6-8 says: "6And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. 7Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?" So, I think that if you read these scriptures for yourself that you will be able better to understand that what she claims is just not true. Look at it this way, if she can do what she says then the bible is a fake. If I can be of more assistance please write. Raven |
