Subject: Raven and John Reformed, Baptism? |
Bible Note: Dear beleivers with me in Christ Jesus, Thank you for all of the input on the subject of baptism. From all of the postings I've reached the understanding, and correct me if I am wrong, that the only way to obtain salvation in by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism is necessary for those who beleive in Christ and learn, being taught from the Word of God, that baptism is an act of washing away of sins and that it is done in the name of Jesus. In my search on this subject I found this passage. I thought it was interesting that it was necessary for these to be "re-baptized" in the name of Jesus. What does this mean? If it seems that I'm dragging this subject on, I apoligize, but I would appreciate any comments from the forum. Acts 19:1 It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples. Acts 19:2 He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." Acts 19:3 And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism." Acts 19:4 Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus." Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. Jesus is alive, the same yesterday, today, and forever!
