"Did Abraham's faith exist before he offered Isaac up?" Obviously it did, he left his homeland when God told him to. God commanded, Abraham obeyed, God credited his faith as righteousness. "Jesus, seeing their faith...take up your pallet and walk" Disciplerami |

''"Did Abraham's faith exist before he offered Isaac up?" Obviously it did, he left his homeland when God told him to.' Good. We are in agreement there. Now, did Abraham's faith exist before or after he left his homeland at God's command? In other words, did Abraham believe God before he actually did ANYTHING God told him to do? --Joe! |

You do not know if Abraham had faith before he obeyed God? You think it is possible Abraham's obedience was faithless? "By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God." --Hebrews 10:8-10 So I ask again, did his faith cause his obedience or not? --Joe! |

Dear John! Before Abraham obeyed God, his faith was not perfect (James 2)! Was it? I didn't think so. When faith is united with works, THEN it is perfect. Isn't that what James says? Of course he did. You ought not put on that superior tone when you know NOTHING of his faith prior to his obedience. I think the Hebrew writer has as much sense as you, and he could only speak of what Abraham DID to describe faith. I don't see the Bible heaping praise on people who are on the verge of obedience, do you? This is Biblical, but sometimes our preconcieved notions about depravity and irresistable grace just get in the way. Good day to you, Disciplerami |

Dear disciplerami, you have a real finesse when it comes to getting your point across. “You ought not put on that superior tone when you know NOTHING of his faith prior to his obedience.” Those of us on the forum are so blessed having you on the forum to educate on the finer point of Bible doctrine since we know NOTHING as you put it. I don’t know how we possible managed all these years with out you since you seem to be the only one with any knowledge of the Bible. Please continue on and insult more of us so we can appreciate you so much more! Is this a technique that you learned in seminary or was it developed during your 17years as a minister or missionary? Have a nice day, CDBJ |

Why should we pretend to know about the nature of Abraham's faith prior to what is recorded of it? Abraham for sure had the faith that was incomplete, but only when he heard the instructions of God and did them did he receive a place in the roll call of faith - Hebrews 11. By the way, do you have anything to add and further our discussion here? I would enjoy hearing it. Disciplerami |

I am not that well versed on the topic of discussion, I would just appreciate it if you would go a little easer on the forum members with concern for their opinions and feelings. There are some very nice people on this forum and most are smarter then I am on many different doctrines. I just thought that you were inconsiderate of Joe’s feelings by the derogatory remark that was pointed directly at him; that’s all I have to say. In love, Chuck |
