Subject: How Does Baptism Save? |
Bible Note: Dear Brad, First, have I said how much I like your signature line - Speaking the Truth in Love - that is great - wish I had thought of it first! The greek word used here implies water. My lexicon puts it this way:baptizo bap-tid'-zo from a derivative of bapto; to immerse, submerge; to make whelmed (i.e. fully wet); used only (in the New Testament) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism:--Baptist, baptize, wash bapto :bap'-to a primary verb; to whelm, i.e. cover wholly with a fluid; in the New Testament only in a qualified or special sense, i.e. (literally) to moisten (a part of one's person), or (by implication) to stain (as with dye):--dip. Taking these with Jesus' teachings in John 3, Mark 16 and Matthew 28 as well as Peter's teachings in Acts 2 and I Peter and add that to Pauls own conversion story in Acts, BAPTISM IS CLEARLY ESSENTIAL TO SALVATION. It is so essential that in Acts 19, Paul had the people baptized in Jesus name even though they had been baptized under John the Baptist' baptism of repentance(which was taught prior to the DBR of Jesus and thus the new covenant). Hope this helps. Rocky |
