I would like to discuss this with you but first allow me to make some preliminary questions and comments: 1. You state you believe in “eternal security” (as defined by the Calvinist theolgical system, I assume). Are you attempting to fit the text in question to fit the doctrine of “eternal security” or are you seeking to find what the actual intended meaning of the text irrespective of whether or not it supports the aforementioned doctrine? 2. As you seem to be in disagreement with the “hypothetical” theory given the text in question, are you under the opinion that the writer of Hebrews considers the possibility of “falling away” (i.e. apostasy) a real danger, something that can actually occur to the readers of his letter? 3. Unfortunately, I am not experienced with NT Greek so I must rely on scholarly opinion. In any case, since you disagree with the NASB, what version(s) do you feel better translates the text in question and, briefly, why? Looking forward to a healthy discussion. |

.You ask what version do I ascribe to I personally prefer the traditional King James Version. I am going to give you an example of what I am saying in Hebrews 5:14 KJV it says a mature christian can discren both good and evil as two seperate entities because good is not alway good and evil is not alway evil, note most other translations use the phrase discern BETWEEN good and evil. for example we have nit-pickers in the SBF and though they think they are being clever they are just plain mean spirited. | ||||||

Dear SOG, 1/ You say : "in Hebrews 5:14 KJV it says a mature christian can discren both good and evil as two seperate entities because good is not alway good and evil is not alway evil." Here's my KJV version for Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Could you please explain how would you draw on the conclusion that "because good is not alway good and evil is not alway evil"? 2/ I am afraid your filing such (nit-pickers) an accusation against the forum participants is inappropriate. I hope you don't regard it as nit-picking when you are faced with people challenging you for clarification in concern with proper understanding of the scripture. Please kindly also withdraw your ad hominem comments as such : though they think they are being clever they are just plain mean spirited. Shalom Azure |
