1 | Heb6:4-6 Loosing salvation or what? | Heb 6:4 | hopalong | 207635
Dear Pator Tim, thanks for your question. Thank God for HE has not left us out on a limb! In fact He tells us precisely who the these "partakers" are, and the extent of their participation. Heb 6:7-8 For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God; but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned. These folks are the ground that partake in the common rain, but becuse of their unregenerate natures do not bare good fruit. Hoppy |

Greetings Hoppy! So, you are saying that unregenerate people can partake of the Holy Spirit? Is the Holy Spirit common? Does everyone partake of the Holy Spirit? I just can't see any possible way that 'partakers of the Holy Spirit' can be applied to the unregenerate. It would be a stretch to even say this of 'enlightened' or 'tasted', but 'partakers' have to actually be partners with the Holy Spirit. The author of Hebrews uses this word several times, and it always seems to describe a relationship - the lost have no relationship with the Holy Spirit. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

The people in Hebrews 5:11-6:3 are one group of people; the "you" The people in Hebrews 6:4-6 are another group of people; the "those" Hebrews 6:7-8 explains the case of the "those" as hoppy has explained very well. Hebrews 6:9-12 is about the true believers. "Those" people in verses 4-6 have obviously called themselves christains, been around true christians, then turned around and made a mockery of the cross by turning away from claiming to be a Christian. At a point in time, they turned aside from what they had experienced. “it is impossible to renew them again to repentance” (renew—restore) They cannot be restored to repentance, since they turned from true repentance. - Spiros Zodhiates, The Complete Word Study Dictionary: New Testament Blessings, Val |

4 | Heb6:4-6 Loosing salvation or what? | Heb 6:4 | Morant61 | 207656
Greetings Val! Excellent break down my friend! However, textually, it would make just as much sense to say that the 'those' are those who were believers that did not show diligence to the end (v. 11). The text never uses the terms 'true believers' and 'false believers'. Verses 7 and 8, also do not make a distinction between 'true land' and 'false land'. The distinction is between productive and unproductive land. In fact, these two verses are very much like the words of Jesus, when He speaks of vines in Him that bear no fruit (John 15:2) which are ultimately burned (John 15:6). So, I would respectfully disagree that Heb. 6:7-8 clearly shows that the 'those' were false believers. I base this conclusion on the descriptions used of the 'those' in Heb. 6:4-5. I don't see these as appropriate descriptions of an unregenerate person, especially the last one which identifies them as 'partakers' of the Holy Spirit. I know that President Clinton tried to claim that he smoked it, but didn't inhale. However, I can see no way that an unbeliever can 'partake' of the Holy Spirit without 'having' the Holy Spirit. :-) Further, as Beja has pointed out, the word 'again' is used of their repentance. The text does not say, 'it is impossible for them to repent.' It says, 'it is impossible to renew them AGAIN to repentance.' They had already repented once. How could that be said of an unbeliever? Further, how could it be said of a non-Christian that he was 'crucifying Christ all over again'? How could a 'false believer's' rejection of the truth be described in such a way? Though we may not agree on this point, I love and respect you my sister in Christ. Keep up the great work! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Dear Pastor Tim, Thank you for you post. Although we disagree I respect your opinion. As a sister in Christ I do see that it would cost you to change your opinion on this passage. Factors like this might lean you to a particular perspective. However, I have always been taught that when I am wrong I am to line up my life with the teaching of scripture rather than lining up scripture with my life. I hope you are not offended by this. It is my wish that you as well as everyone on the forum grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Its been a pleasure taling with you. Blessings - Val |
