1 | Good-bye, NIV | 2 Tim 3:16 | EdB | 32724
Hank As I said before I was never a fan of the NIV. I didn't like how they handled the personage of the Holy Spirit to me they presented Him almost as the "force" rather than the third member of the Trinity. For that reason I have nothing to rid my house of. However I will say I will now make it a point of decision whether to buy anymore Zondervan products. EdB |

2 | Good-bye, NIV | 2 Tim 3:16 | Hank | 32726
Ed, one of the cruel ironies of this on-going debacle about the Zondervan-HarperCollins decision to publish the TNIV is that Zondervan happens to publish several Bible products that contain the NASB text. I find that somewhat disconcerting. Life is so tedious and complex these days! No wonder I grow nostalgic now and then as I reflect on those days when I grew up bare-footed and care-free in the red-clay hills of north Georgia, and my mother read to me from her King James Bible -- the only version in town -- and taught me my prayers as she tucked me away for the night in my little feather bed. Ah, thanks for the memories! --Hank
3 | Good-bye, NIV | 2 Tim 3:16 | Makarios | 32752
Greetings, Hank! Even though we have both chosen to abandon the NIV, I would suggest that a person would not go so far as to burn, mutilate, or trash the copy of the NIV that they own. After all, by itself it remains God's Word, containing the message from God to mankind. I believe that the NIV, in and of itself, is still an excellent Bible translation to use, and it is quite possible that the intentions of its publishers 'turned for the worse' only AFTER the NIV began to reap such great success. So it is entirely possible to assume that the translators and publishers of the NIV were accomplishing their task in the creation of the NIV with full integrity and in the very spirit of that which is reflected in the Preface to the NIV. In conclusion, I would say that if one chooses not to use the NIV, because of whatever reason, than it would best serve the Lord to pass your copy of the NIV onto a person or organization that could use it for Godly gain, since it is now useless in your possession, having a "tainted" reputation. You could pass it along to a traveling missionary, give it to the poor, donate it to your local YMCA or Salvation Army.. Any option is better than to trash the Bible version itself, which is still excellent. However, I will not invest in another NIV (or any of its successors), and I will seek to abstain from contributing in any way further to the International Bible Society and the Zondervan Corporation. Blessings to you, Makarios |

4 | Good-bye, NIV | 2 Tim 3:16 | Hank | 32764
Oh, I agree! I'd never dream of putting the torch to the NIV. My frustration about it has not run me that far amok! I'm undecided yet what disposition I will make of the copies that I own. Perhaps I will keep one (out of 5) and place it quietly and out of sight in a dark corner of my library (as charis has done with his). --Hank
5 | Good-bye, NIV | 2 Tim 3:16 | Makarios | 32801
Glad to hear it, my friend! Of course, I really didn't think that you would go to such an extreme, but some might think of such a plan. I agree, charis's post was an excellent one with good advice- just to keep it 'out of reach.' :-)

Greetings Fellow Forum Faithful! Here is a chance to voice your displeasure of the release of the TNIV! We have a chance to give Zondervan and the International Bible Society the truth about our views and about the fact that they have indeed broken their promise (on May 27, 1997) to "forego all plans to develop a revised edition of the NIV." (http://www.cbmw.org/resources/articles/niv/pressrelease.html) You can write an e-mail to IBS by clicking on "Feedback" at http://www.tniv.info, or writing to them: IBS International Headquarters 1820 Jet Stream Drive Colorado Springs, CO 80921 Phone: (719) 488.9200 (7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. MST) Zondervan 5300 Patterson SE Grand Rapids, MI 49530 Phone: 616-698-6900 E-mail: media.relations@zondervan.com Thanks to Hank for providing me with the above contact information.
