1 | Holy Spirit convicts of sin? | 2 Tim 2:15 | strts5 | 215060
Can you give me scripture references? I am trying to make up my mind, but I am leaning toward my statement. I want to know where it says we must confess our sins in order to be forgiven, that sounds like works because it is dependent on us. I am absolutely not saying we should continue in sin, only that we are the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus regardless of whether we confess. Are you saying we are then unrighteous until we confess each and every sin. That would be like trying to live under the law, then you have to follow the law perfectly and would end up in one continual act of confession. What freedom and joy is there in that where if we forget to confess a sin we are condemned? I think we are all toast then! Have you confessed ALL your sins? Mike |

2 | Holy Spirit convicts of sin? | 2 Tim 2:15 | stjohn | 215064
Hi Mike, I'll get back to you with more, but for now, look at 1 john ch 1, John is talking to believers here as well, and the confession of sin he is dealing with is for sanctification NOT salvation. And to answer the last question; yes! I take my sins to the cross as often as they are made known to me by the indwelling Holy Spirit. It is a joy to know that when we mess up (and we all mess up) God will continue to forgive and sanctify us to be more and more like Him. Being a Christian is a process, it's not a done deal that we are no longer going to mess up from time-to-time. John |

3 | Holy Spirit convicts of sin? | 2 Tim 2:15 | strts5 | 215070
Can you give me any scripture that says the Holy Spirit points out our sin? If God not only forgives sin, but also forgets them, who is reminding you of yours? Is God divided against Himself? Is this scriptural or is it a tradition of man?

God's day to you, strts5, The first step is that the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin ... John 16:8 says "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment" ... read the context. Searcher |

5 | Holy Spirit convicts of sin? | 2 Tim 2:15 | strts5 | 215082
OK, I read it in context, and the context says, John 16:8-11 8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. any questions on verse 9? Clearly the Holy Spirit does not condemn the Church because we do believe in Him! |

6 | Holy Spirit convicts of sin? | 2 Tim 2:15 | stjohn | 215086
Hi Mike, Where does it say condemn? I think you are misunderstanding the word convict where is is used in this context. It would be as accurate to use the word convince, (as I believe some translations do, or in the one you used it says, reporove) in this sense, because you are correct, the Church is indeed not condemned. But the Holy Spirit simply points things out to us, that we would otherwise not consider sin. Does that help? If not, we can try it another way if you like. John |
