1 | Holy Spirit convicts of sin? | 2 Tim 2:15 | strts5 | 215058 | ||
I don't think I will get any fans here, but Matthew Henry is wrong according to the verse. In the verse it says He convicts the world of sin and the only sin that is mentioned is the sin of not knowing Christ. I think I will keep it simple and not add anything that that is not there or implied. So again, does the Holy Spirit ever convict anyone of any sin other than not knowing Christ. This would obviously not include Christians and implies the Holy Spirit only convicts us of our Righteousness which only comes from Christ and not of ourselves but is ours never the less. Not by anything we have accomplished of ourselves. What I am attempting to achieve here is a polar shift in my faith. I have always felt guilty for a sin I committed and thought it was "the conviction of the Holy Spirit". After a proper reading of this verse I now know I was wrong and that is not the Holy Spirit! |

Hi stars, It sounds like you have already made up your mind and, are looking for someone to agree with you... sorry All sin is utterly heinous to God. So if indeed you have sinned, (as you have said, so by your own admission, you have) you should feel guilty. And yes, that would be the Holy Spirit convicting you of your sin. But the up side is, if you take your sin to Jesus and, are truly sorry for your sin, He is faithful and true to forgive you of your sin. Unconfined sin, is like a cancer, it will eat away at you. So be sure that you have taken your sin to the Lord with, a penitent heart. And then, let it go. Be careful though, if you have already done this, sometimes the devil or even our own deceitful hearts will, try to beat us over the head with sin, sin that Jesus (God) has already forgiven, so as to steel away our joy and, thus, our effectiveness. I've been there many times, and it is very often difficult to let old sins go. But also, it maybe isn't so bad to be reminded of them sometimes, so we can be reminded of His forgiveness. Psalm 51 John |

Can you give me scripture references? I am trying to make up my mind, but I am leaning toward my statement. I want to know where it says we must confess our sins in order to be forgiven, that sounds like works because it is dependent on us. I am absolutely not saying we should continue in sin, only that we are the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus regardless of whether we confess. Are you saying we are then unrighteous until we confess each and every sin. That would be like trying to live under the law, then you have to follow the law perfectly and would end up in one continual act of confession. What freedom and joy is there in that where if we forget to confess a sin we are condemned? I think we are all toast then! Have you confessed ALL your sins? Mike |
