1 | denominations. | Eph 4:3 | EdB | 148879 | ||
Justme The more I think about the mission field the more I'm sure denominations is wrong. I can relate story after story where one missionaries work was undone by another in the interest of denominational differences. Today in South and Latin America is almost an open and all out war between various denominational groups. As I understand it the "unsaved" in those countries see this has nothing more than Christian hypocrisy. EdB |

EdB: Ed: Let's agree to disagree. From my perspective the independent missionaries fill a much needed area. For instance New Tribe Missions and Wycliffe Translators are different and each have their own supporters. Yet often they actually help each other when they are attempting to go in simular directions. I have seen Southern Baptist help out Independent Missionaries when their funds were so low they could not return home. There is cooperation, and it seems that bad news travels faster than good news. I have seen Baptists help the Catholics build their church building, and then return the same favor. I am sure there are examples of jealousy, and unkind activities, that's why it is so important to have a board these people are held accountable to. justme |

Justme Yes there is cooperation among groups, and your right you will usually find more cooperation within independents than between denominations. I think most denominations don’t feel as intimidated by independents as they do when another denominational group appears. I can tell stories about independent groups that act like dogs in a pit with each other. I also totally agree that independents have a place in the mission field and my denomination and my church both support independent missionaries. In fact our youth pastor felt it was more expeditious for him to go to the mission field as an independent than as a denominational missionary. His major support came from denominational churches. So yes there is a working relationship and there should be. But there is also missionaries that undermine other missionaries work just because they belong to two different denominations. If you haven’t seen that, then praise God but I have. Your also right accountability is essential but some forget they need to be accountable to God before their denomination. That is all I'm trying to say. Let me ask you one question, if there was not denominations, and the resulting church was in proper order. Do you think Christianity would be a more powerful force in this world, both here and abroad? EdB |

EdB: When I re-read your note, I saw something rather sad. It's hard to believe we are talking about any ministry, say nothing about a missionary! Because we live in a sinful world it is hard to even imagine such a place as you ask about. I think my answer is yes. justme |

Justme Again I totally agree, sometimes in our denominational thinking we completely forget the command of Jesus to love your neighbor as you love yourself. EdB |
