Bible Note: Dear Searcher, That is a blessed heritage that you have! The missions oriented spirit began with the Particular Baptists in England in the late 17th century. Of course, missions as we are used to thinking of it probably has its roots with people like William Carey in the late 18th century, Adonirum Judson in the early 19th century, and Lottie Moon in the early 20th century. I like what Christmas Evans said in his last sermon regarding the very first mission activity that Luke described in Acts, "The Captain of our salvation sent out twelve little boats to engage the whole fleet of hell. For a time all was enveloped in fire and smoke, and the issue of the day seemed doubtful; but when the conflict had ceased ... it was ascertained that the twelve little boats had captured three thousand of Satan's ships of war." God bless you, Searcher, as you search out a church home for you and your family. In Him, Doc |
